TBW
Did you know that Gianluigi Buffon had played at Ashton Gate? Was looking back at some old memories and remenber attending this game when I was still in single digits for age and surprised to see that I've seen Buffon play. Anyone else remember this a bit better than me? Not many of the England squad made it big. https://www.11v11.com/matches/england-v-italy-12-february-1997-259140/

I was at that game and I was right behind the goal in the Atyeo stand that night. Great to know that he went on to achieve what he did and I saw him play on his early days. He would have been at Parma and they had a great team at the time, as anyone who used to watch football italia on channel 4 would be able to confirm. And from someone who used to play a lot of championship manager back in the day, some of those names bring back a host of memories.

hinsleburg
Pretty sure Buffon made a howler during the game at Ashton Gate, swear I've seen it on a Bloopers program somewhere.
tin
I was sat in the Dolman as a schoolboy. We won 1-0 (Heskey scored), Buffon made a blunder.

Northern Red
From memory it kicked off a couple of hours before the senior Italian team beat England at Wembley, the game where Zola scored.
Out of his pie crust
Of Matthew rose (def-mid):”He scored his eventual first and only goal for Yeovil against Bristol Rovers in October 2007” good lad, knew at the time for certain he’d go on to bigger and better things. Strange that one of the only two players to really make a mark for England was one of the subs! He may have been a bit younger than the other defenders. Thinking back, I think my memory is that Matt Carbon looked like a really good player that night. Never really happened for him though. Amazingly, one of the best players to have never won the champions league. Lost the final 3 times. There's a fair few of them and he's by far the best keeper never to have won it. Brazilian Ronaldo and lothar matthaus are the two other huge stand outs when you consider how great they were and who they played for. None of them won the champions league. Yet djimi traore, Paul lambert and Ross Turnball all have champions league winners medals. He won the uefa Cup with parma though. I suspect he's happy with his world Cup winners medal as well.
Mr X
Just checked and Buffon is playing for Parma again in Serie B. There can't be many footballers left still playing who played in the 90s.
