COVID PASS INFORMATION

SWANSEA CITY CODE OF CONDUCT

City will be hosting a beamback for this away day sell-out, with all 1,971 tickets having been snapped up. As mentioned the game is not being broadcast domestically by Sky Sports, Robins TV or Swans TV. The Sports Bar will open from midday and tables of four, six and eight will be available to book, as well as standing space.

The club was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town. It would many years later, in 1970, change its name to Swansea City. In the early days, they competed in the Welsh Football League besides competing in the Welsh Cup. In 1912, Swansea City was elected to the second division of the English Southern Football League. They got promoted in the 1914-15 season, but played only one season after the war in Southern Football League Division One before being elected to the Football League.

Last season they finished 4th in the league and secured a play-off place for a second consecutive season. Swansea progressed to the play-off final after defeating Barnsley 2–1 on aggregate, but lost to Brentford at Wembley Stadium in the final. Interesting to note that both the Swans and Barnsley have endured difficult campaigns following the highs of last season. They are currently 18th in the table with 35 points from 29 games.

Back in August a first-half goal from Joel Piroe was enough to defeat us 1-0 at Ashton Gate, they had 2,500 fans at the Gate that afternoon, it’s seen as something of a local rivalry, here are the highlights:  https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/highlights-bristol-city-0-1-swansea-city/

Ryan Bennett was sent off on Tuesday (handball) in the 3-0 defeat at Stoke so will not feature today. While Kyle Naughton and Nathanael Ogbeta are both set to miss out due to injury. Thoughts on their team selection here: https://planetswans.co.uk/2022/02/10/changes-for-sunday-swans-prepare-to-welcome-bristol-city/

Our starting 11 will be interesting especially with Han-Noah facing a fitness test, COD out injured and Williams probably not ready for a full game.

Korey Smith left us on 9 August 2020, after spending six years with the club, he signed a two year contract with the Swans. Famously on 20 December 2017, Smith scored a last minute winner as we rather upset Manchester United with a 2–1 win in the EFL Cup quarter-finals at the Gate. Any excuse:

Jamie Paterson joined them from us in the closed-season and started really well, with eight goals, four assists and a string of stunning performances under his belt, he looked like a strong candidate for the club's Player of the Season award. Over the last few weeks Paterson had missed the Swans' return to league action due to the fact he was supposedly not in the right frame of mind to play. In fact prior to last weekend Paterson had sat out Swansea's previous five league games. This was down to a disagreement between the player, his representatives and the club over the terms of a contract extension announced last month. Despite plenty of speculation, suggesting he would leave in the January transfer window, Paterson is still a Swansea player and last weekend Russell Martin brought him back into the XI against Blackburn Rovers. A decision that paid off, as the 30-year-old registered an excellent assist for Michael Obafemi’s goal and dug deep along with his teammates to ensure the Swans held on with ten men (Ryan Manning sent off just after half-time) for most of the second half to record a 1-0 victory. NP spoke in the week about his shelf life: https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/nigel-pearson-jamie-paterson-bristol-6645913

The Liberty Stadium became Swansea City's home ground in 2005, and was renamed the Swansea.com Stadium in 2021.

They are managed by Russell Martin who took over when Steve Cooper went to Forest. Martin has an interesting profile, he established a charitable foundation in his hometown of Brighton, initially set up as a football academy, named the Russell Martin Foundation, https://www.russellmartinfoundation.co.uk/about-us The charity aims to use "the power of football to help change people’s lives" by providing access to football, education, and health courses in the local community. Martin has been a vegan since 2014, initially for health reasons as he sought to manage issues with ulcerative colitis. He is also a part-owner of Erpingham House, the largest vegan restaurant in the UK, which has restaurants in London, Edinburgh and Norwich. In a 2018 interview, he stated that he had joined the Green Party of England and Wales. He is also a proponent of Buddhism.

Over the years they’ve had some high profile managers including  John Toshack, Jan Mølby, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup.

Famous fans include Elis James, Steffan Rhodri, David Hasselhoff, Rob Brydon, Catherine Zeta Jones and her husband Michael Douglas.

As mentioned we have sold out of our allocation of tickets, so there will be plenty of support.

Keith Stroud will be in charge, his three previous games at the Swansea.com stadium this season have all ended in draws, against Sheffield United (0-0), Hull City (0-0) and most recently Blackpool (1-1). He was the ref in the corresponding game last season, when we won 3-1 here are the highlights: https://www.swanseacity.com/news/highlights-swansea-city-v-bristol-city-0 it was NPs first match in charge.

Pubs

Wind Street is popular, with the Bank Statement and the No Sign Wine Bar.

Brunswick https://www.brunswickswansea.com Large rambling local with traditional pubby furnishings, lots of knick-knacks and local artwork, good value popular food (served just lunchtimes at weekends), half a dozen well kept ales tapped from cask, friendly helpful service, regular live music, open all day. 3 Duke Street, Swansea, SA1 4HS

Swansea stuff

  • For pretty much 300 years Swansea was an English town. The Norman lords who founded the town in about 1106 brought in English settlers and the old street names are all English - High, Castle, Wind etc
  • Until the 1800s Swansea was tiny. Where the railway station, Swansea Museum, the Quadrant and Mount Pleasant Chapel are today would all have been outside the town. And the population probably did not rise above 2,000 before 1760.
  • As early as 1600 the Swansea area shipped out more coal than any other UK district, except Newcastle/Sunderland. Small vessels carried it to southern Ireland, the west country (Barnstaple and Minehead were big customers), Jersey, Guernsey and Brittany.
  • From the late 18th century until well into the Victorian era, Swansea was nicknamed ‘Copperopolis’ due to the huge volume of the material manufactured in the city.
  • Swansea's population rose from 6,000 to 17,000 in the first half of the nineteenth century. And in 1830 there were eighty named pubs in the town centre. There was also much imported illegally.
  • In 1795 it was estimated  5,000 kegs had been smuggled in along the coast of Gower over the previous six months, and in 1804 about 440 casks came ashore as one shipment near Pennard. Duties were high, making smuggling very attractive and widely supported.
  • The phrase ‘Swansea Jack’ comes from a dog called Jack who saved 27 people from drowning the River Tawe during the 7 years of his life (1930-1937).
  • Famous people from the city include poet Dylan Thomas, entertainer Sir Harry Secombe, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, politician Michael Heseltine, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, footballers John Charles, Ivor Allchurch and John Hartson, actress Joanna Page, 18th-century dandy Beau Nash, broadcaster Wynford Vaughan-Thomas, artist Vernon Watkins, writers Russell T Davies and Iris Gower, and rock musician Spencer Davis.
  • Swansea was once renowned for car theft. It was once said that a car was stolen in Swansea every 75 seconds. The film Twin Town highlighted this reputation as part of its plot, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Town

To the traveling faithful be loud and proud, keep safe and cheer us on to three points.

Bridge restrictions in place according to Bristol Live, with traffic being diverted on and off M/Way and around roundabouts east and westbound...to slow traffic down, possible closures later with predicted winds around 44mph at dinnertime...and rain until evening....allow extra time.

Guessing this isn’t sky sports red button. Can’t see it anywhere

Not listed anywhere. Checked about an hour ago and the next time we're on there is Coventry, Barnsley, and there may have been 1 other listed more towards the end of the season, but don't hold me to that.

I often wonder, does mrs zeta jones, ever slip up and revert to her swansea accent, when drunk at a party?

A friend of my wife used to live next door to her as a kid and her sister became their Nanny.  They  used to have catshit wars about whose cat had shat in who’s garden.  She is supposedly pretty down to earth, as is Michael…who loves his “soccer”.

City fans on Facebook  moaning it’s not on sky. Describing themselves as ‘angry’ and ‘fuming’.  It’s amazing that people don’t know about Robins Tv!

And that since streaming started scheduled 3pm Saturday games could never be shown live in the UK.

This game was scheduled for yesterday at 3pm = No TV!!

It really isn’t difficult to understand!!  ??
