Abraham Romanovich
I've just had an email from Tesco about my home delivery. Owing to weather-related problems at their distribution centre, they may have to substitute my chicken fillets with a spicy German sausage. Not a lot I can do except hope for the breast but expect the wurst.

italian dave
Neighbours trampoline is now flying around Portishead. The worst up this way seems to be due between 11 and 12.

It's getting gusty up here now but honestly think Wednesday was worse than this so far! I heard someone on the radio earlier explaining the difference between today and Wednesday. The underlying wind speeds aren't much different - but today the gusts will be much more powerful and also liable to change direction suddenly - which is more likely to cause damage. Stay safe @Lew - T The airport seem to have delayed a fair few flights til after 2 - so they clearly expect it to have settled down a bit by then. Red-Robbo
15 hours ago, Pickle Rick said: Let's take a moment to appreciate Michael Fish the day before the similar winds back in 1987. Storm? Nothing to see here He was right. A hurricane wasn't on its way. You can only get hurricanes in the tropics. They are tropical cyclones. It is not possible to have a hurricane in the North Atlantic. This was his lunchtime forecast. His forecast after the 6 O'Clock News did warn that a severe storm was coming and people living in southern England should "batten down the hatches". Nowadays of course they have weather satellites that can monitor more accurately the position of storm cells as they make their way up from the mid-ocean. Back then, they relied on educated guesswork with much of the info coming from offshore weather ships and reports from commercial shipping. Selred
I don't understand why news reporters need to be next to sea fronts to report, but also tell others to stay away. Surely they can do it safely from a studio?
