is he any good?

Absolutely no idea, been in post since 2018, previously part of Brighton’s recruitment team,

Remember him as a player (very good) & interestingly he was Nige’s first signing when he was Southampton manager ?

Interesting twist, the CEO not buying players HE wants ?

It may actually catch on . :whistle2:

Joking aside, next step in Nige's rebuild plans ? Reports suggest it the hierarchy making the move, but it does feel like Pearson is getting things in place for a properly run Club at last .

Currently head of recruitment at West Brom is being lined up to be our new one, according to the Irish Sun newspaper tonight.

Good to hear this is being addressed. Was worried the cost cutting might include skimping on the obvious area we need to invest in - a proper, fit for purpose recruitment team headed up by a professional, not a wannabe with a laptop.

That's no way to talk about @Harry or @Davefevs. :)

He was a decent-ish centre half if it’s the same Ian Pearce I’m thinking of - has he any outstanding achievements in the world of recruitment of which you are aware?

Yes it is the same one.

Something in the back of my head makes me think he might’ve grown up in Cheltenham.  Can’t find anything per se, but remember a conversation I had when he won the title with Blackburn that somebody said we missed out on him???

Interesting. NP has stated hes not all that keen on this side of the game iirc

But..

Change like this, hints about leaving etc. Do we have a new manager lined up after this season.

Note not an anti NP thing, just reading the lay of the land following comments today..

Deffo interesting Anyhoo

I don’t think so, Nige laying plans for summer recruitment drive.

Bringing someone in like this would take the load off of NP, and the recruitment team we have at the moment (if you can call it that) is not up to standard.

Pearson worked closely with Walsh at Leicester in this role. We currently have someone in a similar role, but it was only ever meant to be temporary.

There’s no point beating around the bush - it’s clear you’re really keen for Pearson to go. It’s very much a controversial opinion but one you’re entitled to. You should probably just admit it rather than going round the houses.

Would this be the same Irish Sun that reported that Bristol City was looking at Warnock a couple of weeks ago ??‍♂️

I’m no fan of The Sun at all, but guess what? Sometimes they get things wrong & sometimes they don’t.

The Sun is far more likely to be believable about football than it is about politics.

I believe he’s got family in Bristol. He’s cousins with Ed Pearce who played rugby for Bristol.

Good info. Thanks.

Ed Pearce spent most of his career at Gloucester but was a fine player for Bristol in the all too brief time he was here.

I can only hope his cousin makes the same sort of impact as Ed did, should he join.

Head of Recruitment is definitely an important, specialist role in a professional football club and one which we have left unfilled for too long. This appointment would indicate that we actually have a plan to actively recruit which, given our present financial woes, is both welcome and perhaps a little surprising.

…and it needs to have a rounded skillset, part of which imho has to “football knowledge” which I deem to be the ability to understand what the manager wants / needs / needs right now / doesn’t need and also from a scouting / video and data analysis perspective whether any player meets that.

It is why the likes of Steve Walsh were successful….he actually acted as a coach too under Pearson at Leicester, so able to understand the true playing requirements for any prospective recruits.

Just to point out that, if there is a insinuation he might like to come here as its close to Cheltenham...

It is quicker from The Hawthorns to Cheltenham than from Ashton Gate.

My initial post was more that he might have grown-up near Bristol, but it’s never really come out.  It appears that other posters have confirmed there is / was a link.

Hope he is better than the last ex West Brom head of recruitment we had.

WBA do not appear to me to be anything special regarding recruitment but I have zero idea about him or his abilities. Shame we cannot bring in Walsh who is top notch.

Agree and can’t see us shopping for the same kind of players as a club like WBA with their benefit of parachute payments.  Would be nice if we were trying to snap up someone with a record of unearthing lower league gems.

If the Lansdown’s are serious about sorting out the financial mess they’ve created, that’s surely where we really should be recruiting from. If not, it may be more about providing the right image for potential buyers.
