Mansion Bet Closing Down

Furious Custard

Recommended Posts

Just had an email from Mansion bet stating they are closing for good end of this month !?

I'm all for the halt on gambling being forced down our throat, but it does strike me as odd occurring before the end of the season. Have they not built up a enough f a user base to feed from ? Were they just a front for JL to funnel more money into the club ? Is it something else to do with Mark Ashton ?

Any and all other conspiracy theories are welcome.

Shame the statement says we have them on the front of the shirt until the end of the season, not anti gambling just don't like the logo... Guessing we can't do it because of contract reasons, but would love to see the club offer shirt sponsorship up between now and the end of the season to local companies.

Would have been a nice touch and potentially achieved a lot of good for local businesses

I wonder if this is a first for a Football team to have a shirt sponsor within the active season that no longer exists?

Got to be a stato on here that would know?

I can't imagine it would be the first.  So many companies went bust in the global crash in 2008.

Off the top of my head, were Northern Rock sponsoring Newcastle when they went bust?

While I’m absolutely not in favour of betting companies on the front of shirts, I will give MB some credit for being the most engaged sponsor I can remember. Loads of giveaways, shirts, balls, hospitality etc. Always engaged in how the team was doing on a match day on socials etc.

I can remember a few in years gone by where the team would wear a patch over the sponsor logo.

West Ham I think have had to do that 2 or 3 times with their choice of sponsors who have gone pop.

In fact, West Ham have double form for this.....clickety click part 2 in 2008, 7 years before their last one.

With their current sponsors being Betway, they will be lost at the end of the season too due to the gambling rules...7 years after the last one.  Whoever thinks about sponsoring the Hammers in 2029 need to be reaaaaaaaally wary!

Why would we continue to wear a shirt for a brand that no longer exists? Every game in April & May is promoting a site that’s gone bust….would’ve been a great opportunity to promote some local business/charities or something

I’m still waiting to see South Bristol as sponsor @Olé ?

It's worth anyone with an account to place their entire bankroll on a longshot for next year.  Any unsettled bets come the end of the season will see the stake refunded, but any that ultimately win will still see the winnings paid out by way of a manual payment.  Could essentially be a nice free bet!

They haven't gone bust. The parent company have chosen to close that part of the business, and are still trading. I guess we are the ones holding the other party to the terms of the contract. Sentiment aside, I don't think we can afford to turn down a guaranteed income stream however short the remaining term.

Football Index, the pyramid scheme, crashed last Spring and QPR/Forest both ditched them

The website will also still exist and will almost certainly point people towards their continuing casino operations.

So if one person sees our shirt, heads to Mansion Bet and onwards to the casino, they'll be getting some bang from their buck.

Weren't Yeovil once sponsored by Preston Plucknett Post Office & Stores?  I remember they won the rights in a raffle.

Other odd non-league ones were Margate FC sponsored by the band Bad Manners and St Albans were sponsored by Roy of the Rovers.

Edit: While fact-checking this post, I found a great pic of Roy watching St Albans from their luxurious press box:

Weren't Baggies once sponsored by the Quit Smoking Campaign?

Still remember junior school, late 70s, Superman and Nico-tine….we all had to sign a pledge to never smoke, in return for some stickers and a poster.  Everyone in our class signed up apart from my mate who’s dad worked for Imperial Tobacco! ?
