I can't find anything about him playing, my players record ends at 1987, I guess he could have played after. Found a photo though, and he did have his kit sponsored .

The "threat of violence" was not as prevalent as that through the 80s, not at AG, because we spent all but one of the ten seasons dawdling in the two lowest divisions, where the visitors to AG were often York, Darlington, Southend, Bury, Walsall, Lincoln, Gillingham etc who "travelled light" and didn't do much in the way of that sort of thing, whereas in the top two divisions things are more lively and frequent in that department. 

Visits from Millwall, Pompey, Villa, Sheffield Weds and Utd, West Ham being notable exceptions. Most of the 80s was York, Southend, Bury and Gillingham, in front of 5,700 people, waiting for us to get our act together, which took until the end of the decade.

Some of the away games were pretty bad, though, certainly.

Games against the Sags could be pretty rum affairs, e.g. Devon White (IIRC) getting bananas chucked at him  Going to watch us at the IKEA stadium for an evening game was quite something when you're 15...!

I was referring to the coppers, not the fans! I was too young for the '70s, went a couple of times but in the schoolboy enclosure

He was right wing/inside forward played twice in Division 4

12/03/1983 Aldershot at home - won 2-0

07/05/1983 Crewe at home - won 2-1 (he was substitited)

He played in midfield, I think he was in the same apprentice group as Andy Llewellyn 82-84 ish, he was from Frome or nearby.

 Estate Agent?........one step up from a serial killer....ha!   Though to be fair, what a great location to be selling houses?  Also, at least he got the chance to sit on the bench in some Liverpool European games...........that's really not a bad day out?

Yes sticks in my mind too - City fans breaking up their seats in the Dolman to lob at the Millwall fans Not our finest hour, but plenty of other far better memories of that era.

Yup.

I cycled to the game, rode along the river, crossed a bridge to be confronted by the Plod escorting hundreds of Millwall fans from Temple Meads. 

I have never ridden so fast in my life.

 I  remember my uncles mini with a few bricks on the roof.im sure they caused havac in the black horse pub,a few stanley blades were found which i guess was not for trimming the wallpaper.

Can't remember Nigel Smith but certainly remember Nigel Hawkins. Bit unlucky with injury iirc
