I didn’t stay for the walk around, but I did find the shoe thing a bit of a distraction to what was going on the pitch. We were being treated to the best performance of the season and one section of the crowd were only interested in a football and a shoe.

End of season party atmosphere maybe I get it, but I just felt that was our flattest part of the match.

Why are pitch invasions frowned upon nowadays? Years ago it was the done thing last game of the season regardless of how things had gone.

Games gone soft!

Just to add to that, don’t get the point of the lap of appreciation either.

About sums it up, a load of middle aged blokes hanging on to the “glory days”.

Why do people feel the need to be on the pitch? For one it’s illegal. For two the players had their families on the pitch.

Celebrating promotion / winning the league is just about the only time it’s “acceptable”

Promotions/Man United its justified. Being legal/illegal is irrelevant. Agree was odd yesterday but hardly the end of the world.

Just as a side note & I don't agree with going on the pitch but I watched 1 of our so called "safety stewards" (the bald 1 pictured on HNM's left arm when escorting him to the tunnel) try to savagely kick the legs out from 1 of the idiots running onto the pitch. I'm assuming the steward was probably wearing protective toe capped boots/shoes & if he had made contact could have quite easily done some serious damage to the limbs of the invader. If he had made contact & caused injury would the steward been charged with assault etc or would it be a case of the the offender shouldn't have been on the pitch ?

I’m not overly fussed about people running on the pitch, not something that ever excites me but there ya go, each to their own I guess.

Yesterday however sums up a large number in that section, wait so they can see the players, then as soon as they’ve had their clap, **** the rest of the fans who’ve waited patiently, let’s run on the pitch, mob all the players with their young children and grown men doing knee slides?!? Weird bunch

I know the steward you're talking about and he certainly isn't the least bit violent. I also doubt that steel toe-caps are part of the stewards getup.

I think the biggest problem is that stewards get minimal training, are given their orders to stop people getting on the pitch and are left completely helpless and under a lot of pressure when these fools decide to invade as they did yesterday.

I've got no problem with kids running on the pitch, but as others mentioned the first to do it were all middle aged blokes. Embarrassing doesn't begin to describe it.

There was one in a green jacket, not that old, who looked like he was gonna pass out before he hit the 18 yard box.

Hi Rich, thanks for your comments, wasn't suggesting the steward concerned is a violent person, just commenting on what I witnessed. I would probably agree with you about their lack of training & they must have to deal with some very difficult circumstances but on the flip side we had a medical incident in E28 when somebody was injured celebrating our 3rd goal, the response from the stewards concerned & St John's was brilliant so well done to them for that.

The club really need to get a grip on bottle throwing and other 'antics' by that lot in the corner. Will they? I doubt it.

Throwing a shoe around whilst team on the pitch were playing well beggars belief

Absolutely sickening behaviour! Lifetime bans pending.

I think it’s sad that the fans of tomorrow can’t go on the pitch to greet their heroes.

Back in the day it was the done thing, us youngsters would join the players on the pitch, our parents would hold back and watch.

It’s a shame that grown adults can’t afford their kid’s that special feeling without acting like arseholes.

Outrageous how Bristol City players famously avoid being spotted in public outside of match days as well.

Not sure why Stewards and the Club have to deal with them.

Whatever happened to self control?

Do they ever look at themselves in the cold light of day? Do they behave like that when on their own, or is it only when in a group?

Just weird...grown men throwing a shoe about and then singing the equivalent of a nursery rhyme about it. Then going ' feckin mental' ??????...then running onto the pitch ???? just weird. Does it make them feel big...or is it seen as fun? Fun I guess if you are 10... Wtf...pretty sad???

Does anyone actually enjoy watching the player walk around the pitch and clap the fans? I don't see the enjoyment personally.

I suppose we can say at least there was no malice in it, it was tinpot though to run on a pitch to celebrate being what 17th!

Maybe the club shouldn't do it then?

Personally, I quite like giving the team one last clap before not seeing them for months (or forever, in some cases) and watching them take their kids with them reminds us all of how they aren't just "our" players, but human beings with their own lives and concerns, just like everyone.

I think the invasion was inevitable given how the game panned out, but the OP was right, there were some right muppets involved. A bloke with a kid on his shoulders continually harassing Massengo, other players having pissheads encroach their personal space, stewards having to grapple with fans on what should have been a happy day. It got a bit ugly.

Playing devils advocate could the same not be said for those that like to go on the pitch, it's what they like to do. I obviously don't agree with there fun ruining anyone else's but if everyone just stayed in the stands then there idea of fun would be ruined as well. Is there a solution that pleases everyone?

It’s just typical of todays world    People ignore the rules    Yes it was only running into a pitch but we saw what happened in the euros final at Wembley. People just think they can do what they want and it’s mostly young/mid age adults so the kids will only get worse

cringey and embarrassing

I think this sums it up for me. As long as we've had our fun, sod everyone else. What about the 50-ish bald headed twonk that started it off? I mean honestly, go and buy a 2 seat sports car or something.

TBH it wasn't the pitch invasion per se that spoilt it, it was the behaviour of certain fans that left a sour taste.

Let the players go to all three home stands to take the applause and do not get in their faces with your entitled demands for selfies, autographs, shirts etc.

Yes remembering running on every game from the school boys enclosure. It's not just football. Life has gone soft with an  expected nanny state

Years ago there wasn’t alway the pitch walk around by the players so it didn’t matter if people ran on the pitch. Now there is a warning about not going onto the pitch with the warning, implied or explicit, that an invasion will mean that players go off. So what happens?  The brain dead go into the pitch and the players go off! (I’m not blaming any children, as they follow the example set by parents)

How far back? As long as I can remember several times I’ve been on the last game of the season and there’s been an announcement that the players will do a lap of honour, please don’t go on the pitch. Never been obeyed mind.

Embarrassing to run on the pitch.
Embarrassing also for players to do a lap of honour after a dreadful season.
Why not just do what they do at the final whistle of every match - do a lap, applaud the fans, say bye.
I didn’t see the point of going down the tunnel, collecting their kids and then coming back out. It’s was as it there was something we should all be grateful for, when in truth we’re all mostly glad the season has ended and we’re safe!
The delay with the players heading off down the tunnel just increased the length of time these nobbers had to plan their embarrassing pitch invasion.

Most of those fans will be fathers. Makes you wonder what their kids are like with such role models. Maybe they will be doing the same in 30 years.

It’s as if there’s always been idiots at football!

You’d think some war crimes had been committed the way some people are going on, I think it’s incredibly tinpot to pitch invade after finishing 17th but who cares, plenty of other fanbases did the exact same thing. Equally tinpot to be having a lap of appreciation or whatever at full time.

It seems to be getting the norm, where people see or meet ' famous' people', and think they can do or say whatever they like with them.

As a good example..

Have you seen the footage of the **** and his mate harassing and filming Mike Tyson on a flight? He ends up punching his head in...the next thing, they end up filming the result of the injuries and posting it on social media. It's just a really weird mentality that's taken hold. Really really odd.
