Crowds were about 5 or 6000 then, so most rocked up about 2:50/2:55.

Supersonic Robin
Think there's a fair bit of nostalgia bias in this thread. The old AG was a sh*thole and in dire need of renovation. The 'new' AG is a big upgrade. I appreciate the atmosphere hasn't been great at times over the last few years, but let's be honest, that's due to the fans, not the stadium itself (and yes, I agree that the general club culture perhaps hasn't helped either). It's also worth remembering that the renovated stadium has played a big part in improving our revenues and making us a more attractive proposition to players and managers. It's not just an aesthetic change, the new AG literally makes us a bigger and better club.
The Constant Rabbit
IIRC Spurs got in and couldn't be shifted despite many attempts. Can't think of any others that stayed half the game. As for Leeds - they got picked off one by one going through the turnstiles when they failed to force open the metal gates. I do wonder to this day who has the coppers helmet that did the rounds of the EE for the rest of the game!
Lordofthebling
Best city game of my life, Rotherham when we got promoted. So much of a release when Noble scored, unreal day. East end was literally bouncing. A memory with my family that will live forever Edited June 3, 2022 by Lordofthebling

Offside
I used to love standing in the East End as a teenager in the late 80s. These two pics (versus Swindle in the cup) are how I remember it. It was never the same after seats were put in, but I’m glad the EE had a renaissance before it was demolished. FWIW I think the redeveloped AG is fantastic as well. The game v Man Utd was as good an atmosphere I have experienced at the ground. We’ve had a couple of difficult years but surely there are good times ahead.

The ball being in the penalty area - ideally, the opposition's penalty area - helps. Shots on goal help. It might not be sophisticated but someone "bombing on" down the left and right and whipping it in the box between the retreating defenders and goalkeeper - this sort of thing helps with rousing a passive audience from their seats and their slumber and their apathy. And their phones. Neat passing sideways and back in the middle of the pitch doesn't help.

It's not about blaming our fans - I'm just pointing out that the stadium itself isn't the reason for a lackluster atmosphere. 45 minutes ago, KegCity said: We got a new fanbase when the East End got knocked down? Obviously not, but we've seen that you can still generate a great atmosphere in the new AG (e.g. Man United game). It goes without saying, but the main factor behind the atmosphere will always be the extent to which fans get behind the team. That's not to say our fans are bad. As above, there are other factors at play.
Ska Junkie
Didn't Swansea make a decent attempt on the EE many moons ago? I remember they were all seemingly massive. They were shifted eventually when our 'mob' arrived but it took a while IIRC.
ZiderEyed
The new stadium absolutely is part of the lacklustre atmosphere. You can't disturb the spatial practice of fans and expect them to behave in exactly the same way. The club aren't helping either.

Agree, the rebuild should have seen City fans behind both goals, and switch the bloody lights down in the stands for night games. The so-called 'special Ashton Gate atmosphere under the lights' has been completely killed off.

Too many happy clappers nowadays, and as others have stated, no needle. Miss the atmosphere of the old East End, the Dolman B Block, or the enclosure. And let’s not forget the old Park End. What has the new ground got? Whats BSportAG8 got. Overpriced grub and more of it. More leg space. Better shiny crappers, Now lets look at that critically. Its better for people who eat loads and more comfortable to doze it off and easier to get in the crapper when they need it. Its better for those on higher incomes. They can afford stuff more to stuff more. Whats else has it got? Atmoss like Reading. And that was once an insult. Now its progress. The EE going was the tide coming back in on a culture.
