Hengrove Stadium

I seem to remember this was while Davison was in charge, so 96-98 time.

It may have even been after his original plans to redevelop the Williams.

I don’t think it ever got beyond it being identified as a location for a new stadium though.

That`s pretty much what I remember. I do recall having a drive up there one day to see where it was planned for though.

It was part of the World Cup or Euros bid, or would have formed part of it.

Didn’t the locals have a referendum and voted against it?

Not long after it became apparent Hengrove was a non starter, we had plans to develop AG into a 30k stadium which died a death when the ownership changed? Hard to remember, but I have a copy of Gatepost which had the plans in.

I do remember at the time thinking ‘Bristol City playing home games there - on a large patch of land between Brislington, Knowle West, Hengrove, Hartcliffe, Withywood and Whitchurch - what could possibly go wrong for away supporters?!’

I remember comparing it to Main Road and Moss Side.

Glad we stayed at Ashton gate, perfect mixture of modern and historical.

With the benefit of hindsight, yes, but lots were pretty unhappy at the time - myself included. Kudos to the club and its design team, they really came up with a truly fabulous set of proposals, luckily we had space to develop. The value of long-term planning and good masterplans, and a clear vision.

Agreed, didn’t think this would’ve ever happened and the way it looks is gurt lush

The deal with the opticians looks a good shout too...?

Who would have thought that Rose West had such a diverse career, patio arranger, entertainer to a string of Caribbean gentleman, assistant to Fred and his basement building company AND opticians model.

Aside from it being on our patch....can you imagine the nightmare it would have been to actually get to? Transport misery.
