Popular Post pl00peh91
I had to sit in the home end because I missed the deadline to buy away tickets. People around me seemed surprised by how well we played and equally felt that it was a foregone conclusion that Bournemouth would finish bottom of the league without some new signings, particularly in defence. First time seeing Sykes in person and I thought he looked excellent, also a shout out to our centre backs who made a number of towering headers and made Bournemouth’s attackers look ordinary. Thought Naismith was a vocal, dominant and reassuring presence at the back particularly as he was talking both Vyner and Atkinson through the first half, both of whom played better than I was expecting. I was fully expecting us to capitulate in the last 30 mins as we brought on the youngsters and Bournemouth’s team were strengthened with the introductions of Moore and Stanislas. Overheard someone say “this is now our first eleven” after those subs were made. Was really impressed with how we coped, with Kadji (someone I’d never heard of) demonstrating a really interesting range of passing, and Massengo growing into to “senior” player in midfield (which I thought as ironic as he is always seen as the young player usually!). Massengo showed some excellent touches and kept the ball in tight spaces, which was very handy as the game felt quite congested at times. Overall can’t help but be impressed by what was a very professional display today, which makes me feel more confident going into the new season. You reds! 34 14 1

OddBallJim
I went today, and was pleasantly surprised. We look decent. Naturally it’s very difficult to judge how the performance today will translate into a competitive match, but there were enough positives to get me feeling somewhat optimistic. We moved the ball well and generally kept possession well, without too many instances of cheaply giving it away. We also seemed to have a greater amount of possession in their final third, certainly in the first half. Bentley had a strange moment losing a relatively easy catch (maybe there was a foul, I wasn’t able to see) but other than that he was solid and distributed well. Defensively as a unit we looked good, particularly Jay Dasilva who I was really impressed by. Add to this that Sykes has settled in well and looks a good addition to the team. In midfield Matty James looked sharp, and more like the player I had expected him to be. Massengo also kept the ball very well under pressure and played some neat passes. We did make some decent plays on the deck through their lines, but were also able to go long when we needed to. As for Bournemouth, well they huffed and puffed, but didn’t really show anything too inspiring. Their opening fixtures are very difficult. If I was a Bournemouth fan, I’d be more than a little worried… Oh and shout out to the cheerleader, and the seagull! 10 1 1

Now down to the real business So far so good but when points are at stake, it becomes a different matter as you said. We, the fans will expect everything from unbeaten after 46 games to October and still waiting for our first win. The squad however, appear to be confident without a loss in any of the warm ups, so I'm looking cautiously forward at the moment.

Great idea............we should have our own pre season predictions? Posters to watch this season - Young up and coming posters emerging from the Academy - Likely top three posters over the forthcoming season - Potential Play Off Posters - Relegation candidates - and finally, posters expected to end up on the transfer list at season end? I know where i'll be ending up, so no suggestions please? Edited July 23 by maxjak

I remember saying last season- Parker or Pearson? Pound for pound and this isn't just due to today, but due to inheriting from respective positions, restructuring of both the team and the balance sheet, tightening financial position vs parachutes- Pearson any and every day of the week. Parker is okay to some extent- but I consider him to be rather overrated. 2
