It doesn’t, your stats are wrong.  In the Uk they used to use multiple embryos as they thought it gave more success, but all it did was create more multiple births, so practice now is to use single embryos as safer for mother and gives just as much chance.  40% is pretty much top end success, nowhere near 60%.  Check out BRCM website, lots of info on there.

Focus only on the twins part then. Not the actual point I've made throughout, only the side note.

IVF treatment is the very least of our worries.

The greater concern are the political/religious breeding extremists and the reckless breeders who produce without any concern from anything other than their own self -interest.

Having spent most of my life fighting the environmental cause, I’ve given up on humans and reached the same conclusion as one of the postings above, in that virtually every other species would be better off without us.

An extreme view maybe, but you can bang your head against a brick wall only for so long. I just hope that there is as little suffering caused to individuals of the human race and other species in reaching the point of planet ‘reset’. Nature is by far the greater force over man, we are naive in the extreme to think otherwise.

I also hope we make it to the Premier League before the reset. COYRs.

Agreed. Ultimately more and more births means a higher likelihood of seeing that suffering sooner so I'm all for at least recognising that point and the selfishness of having large families.

For me, a kid would be cool, sure. But there's a good chance things get pretty shit in the next 50-70 years and knowing that and having them anyway seems a bit ****** up.

The most unselfish thing you can do for your kids at this point is to never have them in the first place.

I do recognise the huge companies causing a lot of issue too though, but... we keep buying from them and birthing more customers for them so good luck turning that around.

Yep, consumerism depends on more consumers, socialism requires more (less well-off) voters, religions seek more followers, the (economically) poor require big family support, the ‘don’t care if I get her pregnant’ brigade do it for kicks  … the forces for population growth totally overwhelm any pleadings from science-based logic groups.

Defeatest I know, but we’re fast-approaching the point of no return.. Bird Flu, Covid-like viruses are going to be the new norm.  The sound, scientifically-based ‘precautionary principle’ thrown to the wind for decades and we’re now reaping the ‘reward’. A few, including myself, that were once at the forefront of the ‘environmental cause’ are moving to the ‘beyond-caring’ position now.

..and for present-day ‘greens’, sit down , think about things and sort your targets out before becoming ‘activists’.

As someone who had twins from IVF I would say that people requiring IVF to start a family are not the people who need restrictions put on them.  People who just pop out 4 or 5 so they can pick up the benefits are where the problem lies in respect of kids in particular, in my opinion. Getting the squad to McDonalds once a week for their happy meals with plastic toys (i realise they've stopped them now), and other less green lifestyle choices etc.

Anyway......bringing it back to the shirt before this gets shunted to the non-football forum....those sleeves just leave me wondering how long they'll take to load..... (when you know, you know).

So much virtue signalling when it comes to climate awareness and actions.

The common man being told to change his ways, while the elite, big business, carry on doing whatever they want.

The latest being farming. The world elite have decided farming is evil and a massive contribution to climate problems. So they want to get rid of farming. To eventually eat food grown in factories. Petri dish food.

Governments and elite grabbing farming land. With no intention of farming. Check out how much farm land Bill Gates has bought up in the States, just so it can't be used. Whilst pilling Billions into factories producing Petri dish food. Our planned future consumption.

Check out what's happening with the farmers in Holland.

Even our own Government have introduced a new initiative for farmers here to pack it in, and apply for a minimum £100k pay off to do so.

Meanwhile nutters like Elon Musk and his play rockets...

Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starship SN15 released 358 tonnes of CO2 during its first complete high-altitude flight on 5 May.

This emissions total is the same amount that 4.6 million people in the UK released in the same time period, according to data we sourced from Everyday Astronaut and the Office for National Statistics.

That's an 11 minute flight.

Searching apparently so that one day we maybe able to live somewhere else...whilst NASA have said after 6 months in a Space Station, the muscle and bones of the astronauts have aged 10 years. So there is no chance we as humans could ever live elsewhere.

Never gets spoken about by mainstream media....it won't be, as most are owned by the same narcissistic nutters.

Just watch...this next year, all you will hear about is climate change...it's the new narrative.

Recycling your rubbish and buying a 'green' football shirt means jack shit in the big picture.

Until Russia, China, South America, Asia change their polluting nothing will change. Pretty much the biggest populations in the world.

Yet little ol' UK is told we have to change so drastically.

So much bollocks and virtue signalling.

I was waiting for China to be mentioned…

Why one or the other? Why not both? What's so great about your genetics that the world needs them? If the IVF would have failed would you have had adopted? If so, that adopted child would've known that you tried everything possible not to have to resort to taking them home because they weren't good enough due to not having your genetics inside of them.

It's weird people feel the need to force their genetics out and pay a premium to do it. I've had family do it too and happily tell them they're selfish and self-obsessed for it.

It absolutely makes sense.

Creating an extra person who is going to live 70-100 years is a much bigger burden on the Earth than someone using a car. Promoting IVF promotes having children where there would otherwise be no children, thus increasing the population and adding to emissions to a much harsher degree... especially if the child goes on to have kids, and they do, and they do and so on.

I believe it's a 40-60% likelihood that a successful IVF pregnancy results in twins too, so double the emissions.

Goodness me, father of IVF twins, aren't I a selfish ****.

Meanwhile, thousands of unwanted babies born every day. But you have a go at us, knock yourself out.

utter bollocks. Socialism isn't an economically driven movement, it's a philosophy and an ideology, employed in such poor countries as, er, Sweden. Ever seen their welfare provision? Gold plated socialism.

You know what, I've refrained from posting in response to this ******* before on this thread, but this has pushed the button for me.

As another father of an IVF child who is 2 this year, me and my wife tried many years but due to some unknown reason(s) on my wife's side, we were unable to have a child "naturally". Long story short, the eggs weren't embedding and the chances of it happening without going down the IVF route, we were told it would probably never happen. We were under the NHS and after jumping through many hoops, we found out that she was pregnant - the day before we went into the first lockdown. He is by far our biggest accomplishment, and when he can understand how and why, we won't hesitate to tell him how and why we had to go through IVF.

What gives you the right to turn around and preach to the world saying that people going through IVF shouldn't be allowed to do so, because of climate change? Were you dropped on your head as a child, or are you just a complete tosser?

I'm usually a big advocate for attacking the post and not the poster, however on this occasion you're an exception you ignorant cockwomble.

Absolutely. And, accept this is a generalisation - but a reasonable one, if you have or want a large family (for whatever reason) and don’t have the means to support your family do you vote Tory for welfare cuts or Socialist for increased benefits?

So, if you'd had to adopt you would have told the kid they were your very last option and you had to settle too? I've seen adopted kids post about it online before about how they never felt good enough and were a last option or they never wanted to go to a family who tried IVF because of it. It's a pretty common thing.

So again, what's so great about your own genetics? Are you Usain Bolt? If so, fair enough. His genetics are probably pretty superior.

Also, having a baby isn't an accomplishment. It's a pretty normal thing people do. Running a marathon is an accomplishment, writing a play is an accomplishment, getting a promotion at work is an accomplishment, being five years sober is an accomplishment. Having a baby... That's just a thing humans do.

Not sure if you know about how babies are made but doing it into a tissue and stuffing it inside the mother isn't how it works, so leaving me on the tissue? I was never on it.

I was an accident though so there's that, if you wanna play with that fact for lolz.

ANYWAY,

I feel we've got very side-tracked from the original topic and have very different values guys so, feel free to DM if you wish instead ??

It's not a dig purely at IVF, just the excess of people the world has in general. IVF was just an easy way of thinking about people going to a business to have children. So felt like it could be, in a dystopian future, be massively commercialised for profit.

We considered adoption before, but due to this working and only having a 2 bed house, it's not an option at the moment. That being said we may well do if/when we have a bigger place as there are plenty of children out there who have a shit time of it, and we can give them something they don't currently have.

As long as you can love them EQUALLY to your bio-kid, good stuff.

If you don't think that's possible, don't.

I genuinely think you have some decent points - especially around the impetus being put on us as individuals whereas change need to happen at the top with big business buying in (or being forced to). But the weird rambling stuff about Bill Gates / "global elite" / "virtue signaling" nonsense then does you a huge disservice and just undermines the whole thing. Not everything has to be a great global conspiracy (I thought covid was a global conspiracy to change everything, what happened to you saying that? ;) ), although to those with that mindset it's always a great hook to draw them in and make them feel like they have some superior knowledge or outlook.

I also find it weird you seem to say that big business or other countries have to be made to contribute, but then use farming being forced to change as a negative thing. I don't know what your actual stance is apart from "might as well just leave things as they are and hope for the best".

On the astronauts - that's due to the lack of gravity. Fortunately other planets have gravity, so not sure what your point is there really.

Climate change isn't a new narrative though, it's been talked about for years and years and to good effect. Remember CFCs and the hole in the ozone layer? Was that just a global conspiracy and virtue signaling, or did we come together to affect incredible change on standards and avoid a potential disaster? It can work.

Unfortunately narrative seems to have just become a very fashionable word meaning "people talking about something I don't like/agree with", just like anyone trying to make a positive impact is "virtue signaling"... shows a sad outlook on things in my opinion if that's your first thought. Does telling people about a good thing you're doing make that thing less good? Does that mean that's the only reason you're doing it? Of course not.

I also agree in part with your point on China, for example - but the counterpoint is that the first world has outsourced a huge amount of our manufacturing to them... and then complain about their emissions as they're taking our rubbish and making our goods / luxuries in horrendously unsafe conditions for 2p / day.

The reality is we all need to make changes, big and small - and shitting all over the small changes just because they're not big ones (what can Reading do about South America exactly?!) is an acceptance of the status quo, which we know isn't working.

Reading having a recyclable kit probably won't do much in the grand scheme of things, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try.

My daughter is adopted, we had IVF / egg donation procedures about 15 years ago and none of it worked so we pursued the adoption route, and literally three months after she came to live with us my wife miraculously became pregnant despite 'experts' telling us it was impossible, so we have an adopted child and a biological one and they are both treated exactly the same (she knows she's adopted).  Adoption isn't easy though, not only all the intrusive checks and processes you have to go through, but the effects later on.

Yes exactly that, thanks - couldn't remember the name.

The irony is that by putting every good deed down as simply virtue signalling and constantly rallying against any change, it helps reinforce the current system. That's surely exactly what the "global elite" want, as it's what made them the elite in the first place!

The new strip introduced for 2022-23 had multi-coloured bands on the raglan sleeves and shorts that were more than decorative. The design was created by Professor Ed Hawkins of Reading University in 2018 and represents average global temperatures each year compared to average temperatures for the period as a whole. Shades of blue represent cooler than average years, red hotter than average.
