Alex Scott article Daily Telegraph

Brighton have money now. £15m to them would make sense and would be a good move for him as he would get game time.  He won’t get that at a top 6 club and shouldn’t go to a relegation threatened club like Southampton or Bournemouth. Maybe Leicester if they sell Maddison to Newcastle

He's very unlikely to go to Southampton or Bournemouth.

Why would he want to join a club that rejected him, that is in real danger of relegation and where he'll likely get limited gametime. Could end up back in tbe Championship in a year.

If we sell, it should be to a higher up side and where we keep him here on loan for the rest of the season.

Yep shouldn’t go there.  Leicester and Brighton would be the best moves for him. Maybe Palace.  Brentford would be a good move if they were slightly more guaranteed safety this season. Same can be said for Leeds who could struggle this season. I can’t see us keeping him on loan if he goes.  He’s good enough to improve these teams squads now so they will want him now.

I can't see him leaving this window.

He still has a lot to prove and the club will have put an astronomical price on his head for pure potential which I can't see any club paying.

Secondly, the lad himself has said that he'd rather be playing championship football regularly than playing U21s for an EPL team or sitting on a bench week in week out, which is probably what would happen.

Money talks of course..

Be prepared for a big offer from a premiership club in the next few weeks

We should brace ourselves for a surprisingly modest offer from a prem. club. The landscape is still different post Covid and no one’s gong to offer £15-20m with add ons. Initial offers may be £5-7m and at £8+ we are at risk. And we’re not just a selling club now, we’re a selling club in a hole. Difficult to keep a player anyway who can triple his wages with a move to any team in the top flight. Either Scott or Antoine will go this window- NP will demand it because he knows he needs 2/3 more and this is the only way to finance it- and the fee will probably be ‘undisclosed’ as it won’t be over £10m.

No way will it be for only 10 million. The villa lad who has gone to Chelsea only had a year left on contract and has gone for 15m plus add one.

Then don't sell him? The club is in the driving seat with Scott, we don't want him to leave and neither does he so it's going to take a huge offer to pry him away.

He was a ‘Villa lad’ and Scott’s a ‘City lad’ and at present, in financial terms, there’s a universe of difference.

I agree, absolutely, in an ideal world. But we’re not even where we were 3 years ago. Put yourself in NP’s boots. You have £8-10m to play with, and think this could keep us up and help the club to push on, or £0. Do you throw the dice or protect a club asset at the price of your job? It’s not as if he hasn’t set the scene in recent interviews.

Not true.  Scott's the one with 3 years left on his contract and a full season in the EFL.   He's worth at least the same amount .  It will be interesting to see who is watching the Wigan game on Saturday..

If we are in danger of relegation at any point this season, with our current squad, then the blame solely lies on Pearson. When we're not looking at play-offs or going down this season then progression on the pitch and some sensible business decisions (ie understanding that £20 million or a retained Alex Scott next summer is better than £8 million now) would be good enough.

It would be incompetence to sell Scott for under market value. We aren't going bust, we shouldn't be going down and the player doesn't want to leave.

Yep……..top managers probably don’t bother with the red tops.

So you think that top managers do their scouting through the broadsheets and it doesn't strike you as at all ridiculous to think that they do their scouting through the press at all?

You make it seem like Pearson had the final say on everything... 1. He wouldn't get the final say on selling-up, and 2  He wouldn't get the final say on how much he gets to reinvest.

Real life isn't FIFA, mate. If his job is THAT at risk, they would give him £0 to use anyway.

1. The OP was about an article in the Telegraph about Alex Scott

2. Your initial reply said that the article would have placed Alex Scott at the top of the Premier League club's radar

3. When somebody asked you "Because of a Telegraph article?" your reply didn't say it would be silly to think that Premier League clubs do their scouting through the press, instead you explained the top managers don't read the tabloids, thus implying very heavily that you think an article in the Telegraph would have raised Premier League manager's awareness of Alex Scott.

Please tell me where I went wrong here and how you didn't mean that an article in the paper would tip off top managers about one of our best players who is almost certainly being tracked by these clubs already?
