What I'm seeing so far under Manning is a coach trying to implement his ideas regardless of the squad and players available. Too keen to impress. Experienced managers recognise what they have and work with those tools. Chase this today and we lose. Draw them out a bit and get in behind would suit better.

Probably lose Tanner and shuffle other 2 across.

Shit tracking from Bell there, need to stay with your man, too casual. Need Pring on for balance.

Or where when their manager leaves. Palace of even Burnley could lure. Other suitors too, I'd wager.

Also depends if Sykes is put into central midfield, the place he prefers, and, to be honest, where I think he could shine under the new regime.

Agreed, to some extent, depends on your attitude to risk and reward and where it takes place on the pitch. The valid point remains that quick thinking will be key to adaptation for this squad. Less ponderous and pensive.

The trouble is, his pass success % is not as great as some seem to think it is (not even top 10 for us last season). He's prone to howlers because he likes to dwell on the ball too much and weigh up "options", unnecessarily much of the time. To play the Manning way, will likely involve building quickly from the back, meaning confident, capable passers of the ball, not ditherers (harsh, but you get the point). I think Naismith can be coached to speed up delivery and thereby his pass completion %. Same for the others, to some extent. In a midfield role, he can take more risks, but does he have the speed and energy for this new type of football that we are promised? Would probably have been a very good sweeper in Italy in years gone by.

Thanks, but I have never asked for anyone's personal details, nor would I do so. I don't think anyone else has either, save for (theirs, not mine) reference to a user name (and a prior user name). My question was/is about the overall policy (should there be one), how it is implemented, and what might be done to improve matters. I'll leave it there, for now, thank you kindly for the additional information.

He did talk of shape out of possession, and I did notice some of that, at least in the first 5 or 10 mins, on Saturday. Minor tweaks, therefore, for now.

An clear example of careful what you wish for. Any great team is built on a solid base and spine. We have much of the foundations. That is what's been happening these last few years. Hopefully the new Coach will find a way to link the elements rather than dismantle and rebuild them (for now). The latter would be utterly foolhardy with the personnel we have at present.
