Lampard might be a refreshing change as we would actually get some media attention for once. In a field of Joe average candidates it’s hard to get excited about any of them unless our wonderful owners pull an unexpected rabbit out of the hat.

So apparently planning permission for the new stand has been fast tracked and should be granted in 2 weeks. Just goes to show that if you do it right by the rules you get objections and constant delays but just go and build it without planning and it gets accepted.

Decent performance tonight, but improved massively when Cornick and Yeboah came on. A lot of people being negative about a 17 year old, just like when Bell and Semenyo were spoken off in their early performances. His decision making will improve but up until him and Harry came on we were crying out for someone to run at them. Their energy put Ipswich under sustained pressure for the first time in the game.

Roberts just like Anis is suffering from lack of game time and few opportunities. Until either of them start a few matches then it’s hard to fairly judge.

My view as it happened was that the Stoke player did something that they were successfully doing all afternoon, giving Pring a nudge as he was about to jump which gave him the opportunity to lean on him. Of course you can also say that Pring is experienced enough to see that coming but getting outmuscled at home is what we seem to do.

Vyner is looking a huge miss and that doesn’t augur well for our next games. We let 3 goals in despite not being under much pressure. It’s a typical Alex Neil/Daniel Johnson team snatching a win despite being largely outplayed, when will we learn Too often we lost 50/50 challenges. 3 points handed on a plate to Stoke.

I just think that people are not looking at the bigger picture. We are all worried about things that affect our club. Many people view Bristol Sport as almost a subsidiary of BCFC but in reality it’s the reverse. We talk about Steve losing interest and walking away and maybe he will. Alternatively maybe Steve is not so much stepping back as stepping up to concentrate on a bigger plan. He could attract far more in investment than he could ever recoup by just selling the football club. He built his fortune on investment and that’s where he has the knowledge. He is basically an investment broker and that’s always been where his real interest lies.

Both will potentially attract investment from the US and I sense that’s where Jon’s interest maybe lies. Add an American Sports team/franchise to the group with the accompanying investment and then you have enormous marketing possibilities.

To me it looks like we are remodelling the structure a little. Kelly will look after property and the Bristol Sport CEO will oversee personnel, players, coaches managers etc. I think it is less to do with a sale but very much to do with investment which is SL’s field of expertise. The whole stable of clubs will not be sold off piece meal or have rival CEO’s that are in competition for funding. When you put all the interests together including the Golf Resort and Game Reserve you have the potential to attract much larger investors than would purely look at an underachieving football club. Much as we are naturally protective about our own clubs identity I think we may have to accept that we are now just a part of something potentially global rather than local.

Likewise most supporters that I have spoken to in recent months spend little time worrying about CEO’s or Chairmen or owners and unlike many of us on here don’t have the time nor enthusiasm for endless conspiracy theories. They will read that Alexander has left and only have a passing interest in who replaces him. Off the pitch issues (other than the price and selection of match day food and drink) tend to concern a vocal minority but just fly past many supporters who only care about results and match days. Ashton, Gould, Alexander or Jon L and his predecessors have all been of little interest to many supporters and will remain so.

It’s a club approved statement so one would imagine that the mention of Tins and Nige is significant. It’s probably the closest that we are going to get a vote of confidence for Nige, so maybe a new contract offer coming.

Taking it that Nige does want to stay which begs the question At what point do the club decide whether or not to offer a new contract ? Will Nige be prepared to wait or start shopping around for his next club. It seems to me an unnecessary risky strategy and disrespectful of the work that he has done despite great financial restraints.

I realise (impossible to ignore) the frustrations of many fans of late towards the club and the criticism of the owners ambitions. It was back in the 1960’s when I first became a Red. Attending a Bristol Derby for the first time when the Gas were top of Tier 3. We turned them over, went on a terrific run and were promoted that season. I was hooked. Since that time I have experienced some brilliant highs and more than a few awful lows but in all 4 divisions I have learned to savour the good days. It is maybe why I sometimes fall into the Happy Clapper section. It’s frustrating as hell that we have never returned to the top flight despite massive investment/wasted millions but I also appreciate that only once before in my time have we enjoyed a longer spell in Tier 2. That particular spell ended with promotion to what is now the Premier League. I fully understand others frustrations about not reaching the Premier League and realise that I may not see us play top flight football again. It is though why I so appreciate a long period of consistency without relegation and seeing such massive improvements in the infrastructure of the club. I don’t have inside knowledge so can’t comment on what the Lansdowns have or have not done behind the scenes. I am just a fan of the club and see the current period as a success, not for trophy’s won but because we have been able to enjoy many seasons of Championship football in a modern stadium. That is something our local rivals would die for. Entering my 70’s recently I don’t doubt that new owners could improve our chances and I suspect that is coming soon, but purely from a selfish perspective I am thankful that where we are now is really not that bad !

No problem with people criticising the owner for what he does wrong but using every thread as a bat to beat him with seems unreasonable. It’s been so toxic on here of late that I think some of us just want to enjoy a bit of good news without a discussion about the owner.

So when we get bad news it’s take a pop at the owner, but when we get good news it’s also take a pop at the owner. That’s the problem with having an agenda. A great signing on deadline day all the same.
