The ironic thing is that the Lansdowns will probably look at the club with the new stadium, training ground, thriving academy, huge cuts, and current 7th position and feel like they're doing a pretty good job and should trust their own judgement on that basis.

Yes, and if we sustain good form and are in a similar position in January, it’ll be used as a reason to “go with what we’ve got” and avoid strengthening for a top 6 finish.

Lansdown never mastered the art of the calculated gamble. It’s been mindless spending or extreme cuts.

    Deja vu.

  2. The talk of an imminent takeover or significant new investment is wishful thinking I’m afraid.

Purely and simply, this latest C-level “restructure” at the club is more evidence of Steve Lansdown’s woeful approach to recruitment and retention.

More haphazard cost-cutting and the promotion of underlings, yes men and Tins! Who’s in charge? Jon L’s meritless and talentless stewardship presumably holds this together in the absence of a proper CEO until it falls apart?

Been here before with the Lansdowns and it’s tiresome. It always costs more money in the end.

A proper CEO is needed. One that can drive revenue many more times the size of their salary. Not everyone can be a CEO, very few are capable and it takes someone special with excellent people skills and a strong network. It’s not an optional extra for a club which supposedly has aspirations of Premier League football!

Belarus is currently in UEFA, that’s pretty much the antithesis of a democracy. Russia was also in it until invading Ukraine.

Azerbaijan & Kazhakhstan are in UEFA & aren’t remotely democratic & not sure Israel is a democracy as I would describe a true one, based on not allowing a great percentage of citizens living on land it is stealing on an ongoing basis the right to vote.

Turkey’s elections are consistently described as not “free & fair”, either.

Israel is classed as a ‘flawed democracy’ by The Economist Democracy Index (between Portugal and the United States) but not for the reason you describe. All citizens, including Israel’s large Arab population, have the right to vote. Arab parties were in the shortlived coalition government before Netanyahu took control again.

Thanks PB for this thread. If I ever get a chance to visit NYC again, my mission will be to track down the plaque!

I know there are other City fans living in NYC. Perhaps they could find out if the plaque is still there?

Yes, it’s still there. I saw it a few years ago. There is a “twin” plaque in the Centre, on one of the concrete benches,  opposite the Bristol Hippodrome too.

I found the stuff on the arena interesting. He said it wasn’t his area so didn’t know when building would start then waffled on about it’s being a great 10k capacity arena.

Just showed the bluffing and incompetence of it all. I got some Mark Ashton vibes, praise the Lansdown family, praise the facilities, prem ready etc.

I found that part odd aswell, clearly said 9-10k arena?!

Unless I have missed something, it would be less than half that size.

    Most odd.

As for the general sentiment in this thread, I share it. WE WILL NOT PROGRESS WITH THE CURRENT OWNER. Lansdown, please, sell up and go.

  6. JET was one of a kind and imo can be considered a City legend. He wasn’t lazy on the pitch (although fair to say he could’ve achieved more in the game given his talent).

When we were at our lowest ebb in recent history, under SOD, it was JET and Baldock that scored most of our goals to keep us out of League 2.

Given the natutre of your previous posts you're never going to  recognise and appreciate what Steve Lansdown has done for Bristol City. Perhaps  you will get your wish soon there must be a foreign businessman with a questionable background(to say the least ) out there or maybe  an Arab guy from one of those lovely Middle Eastern utopias waiting in the wings to take over the club, Why does the   idiom be careful what you wish seem appropriate?.

If Steve L still cares for the future of Bristol City he will sell to responsible new owners.

    • The only slight concern from Nige's comment, if our wage spend is so close to our limit, is what can we offer AS to persuade him to re-sign?

Scott signing a new contract at City on terms we could afford is a total non-starter. He's off. Most likely end of this window.

Signing on better terms would price out suitors so not in Scott's interest. And that's why he hasn't accepted the improved deal that has been on the table for months.

    Dont forget mascots!

We have an old Scrumpy cuddly toy I bought for my daughter, years back.  I found it in the dogs mouth yesterday - my daughter had given it to him as a toy. When I jokingly said to daughter and missus ‘no no he can’t have that - Scrumpy is a collectors item now’ they asked why.   I explained that we have had to have new mascots to be inclusive and then both of them cracked up at the ridiculousness of it.  Both are staunch feminists (rightly so) but even they can see how stupid things are becoming in certain areas. Its a bloody bird!

Most concerning. Do you have any theories as to why City Cat, City Kitty or the Coldseal Pigs were similarly hounded out of the club?

    A superb listen. Thank you.

It’s encouraging to hear so many Gas callers, between the tears, cite the new stadium plans as a factor in their relegation. Given the margin they got relegated by, I’m sure they’re right.

It’s the reason why I’m so excited by their Fruity announcement. If it becomes anything more than bluster, it could derail them and even finish them off entirely. Oozing with possibilities in theory.

Interesting that calling someone's mother a whore is the hill many are willing to die on.

Plenty of things to abuse Barton over, all of which are far more justifiable.

Plenty of things to abuse the sad sags over, all of which are far more justifiable.

I think criticism of the lyrics of this particular chant are understandable and reasonable, it's more than a bit ropey. To make those criticisms isn't infringing on anyone's right to fun or free speech.

Some chants become outdated. I remember hearing songs about Aberfan when we played Welsh sides in the 90's and 2000's. I remember "I'd rather be a P**i than a taff" emanating around all four stands. I remember "his kids are deaf and he's a ****". Is anyone arguing those songs should still be sung? Where the target is dead children, Ethnic Minorities or the disabled? Was that "just a chant"? I don't think calling the families of oppositions managers whore's is punching up or even sideways, personally.

I really hope you don’t think disaster songs, racism or disability chants are on the same level. Nobody is defending those and they are NOT the same thing.

  13. Calling JB’s mother a wotsit isn’t a discrimination issue and as a previous poster said, likely accurate.

Probably best to educate the wee ones on what the chant means (cos they’ll find out eventually) instead of shying away from dealing with it. Then make it clear they don’t repeat it away from the football.

  14. Steve McClaren. How has he not been mentioned yet?

League Cup for Boro, fair enough, but other than that has robbed a living as a number 1. At great expense.

I’ve often worried about the possibilities of him coming here given he’s an ex City player and has had a downward career trajectory post England national team.

    Very much a number 2 or 3.

Right the decent matches kick off today.  Apsinall v Rock should be a cracker after this first match

Yeah real mixture today. Should see a high standard with so many seeds left in it.

Debutant Rocky looks like a handful too. Barney has a good record over the Iceman aswell.
