  1. Antipathy to the Lansdowns has created a lot of revisionist fans. Suddenly Ashton appears to be regarded as an unfairly maligned patsy. If this carries on Robbored will posting that Gary Johnson was our greatest ever manager!
  2. That's a red card and a 3 match ban for Bailey Wright!
  3. Christmas wrapping this afternoon, so can only follow intermittently on OTIB! Reading the thread we had a sluggish start, as was the case against Boro. However, the Beeb stats show us having 9 shots, of which 5 were on target ( Naaaritch had none). With a 1 goal lead ,I'd say that represents a decent half of football. If only they keep it solid for 15 minutes after half time............
  4. Vyner drop back keeper - that way when he heads towards goal he will know tosave it!
  5. In that case, and given the state of this forum since NP's departure, perhaps the game should be sponsored by the Samaritans!
  6. Norwich Sunday just doesn't trip off the tongue like Sheffield Wednesday
  7. Easy to forget/overlook Alf Ramsey As a player, he won the league title with Spurs and was an England international As manager, he took Ipswich from division 3 to 1st division champions. Although his career went downhill thereafter!
  8. Watched my grandson's team of under 8s the other week and they seemed to play a 0- 10-0 formation, as the whole team swarmed around the ball. Not suggesting Manning tries this mind you!
  9. I used to rub it into my groin, but to no avail as it didn't grow any bigger. Mind you I did finish third in the Derby!
  10. Same age as me then. I might have this wrong, but didn't I give you a lift to Norwich in the play off season 07/08/. If so, I remember you as being much younger than me. If it wasn't you, then ignore this comment and my stupidity!
  11. No, Dubbin is a horse with a bit of a cold,
  12. Yes Lived in Maxey from 1985 - 2014 then moved Deeping St Nicholas, where we now are.
  13. Ah, local knowledge. IIRC your a bit too young to have been around back then.
  14. For many years, I thought that football should look to rugby for the right way to referee games. There seemed much more respect for refs in rugby, players accepted decisions and there was a dialogue between referees and players that reinforced the refs position. Also rugby's tmo system seemed much better than VAR, in the main because it was called for by the ref mainly for contentious try decisions, and on those occasions the fact that the dialogue between the parties was broadcast gave greater credibility to the decision making. Having watched the recent rugby wc final my view has changed. It seemed to me that the tmo officials were looking for every opportunity to get involved in the game and while I can understand that the physical nature of rugby requires certain rules for player protection, within the same game different interpretations of seemingly identical offences effectively changed the game ( i bow to rugby aficionados if my interpretation is wrong). The sin bin idea is in principle a good one, giving an extra layer of punishment that actually benefits the offended team. At the moment the classic, "taking one for the team" yellow card, preventing a 3 on 1 break by a team fighting for a winner, effectively enables the offending team to benefit by being able to regroup defensively. The player yellow carded stays on the pitch. A sin bin would weaken the offending team for whatever period, perhaps crucially so if the offence was towards the end of a game. However, at the top level, would this give cause for VAR to be even further involved than it already is?
  15. This came up on my local facebook market place today ( I live between Peterborough and Spalding). I know it is probably not original, but it got me thinking that there are a couple of things from it that younger fans won't know. Who is Terry Bly? Terry Bly holds the post war record for most goals in season in the football league - 52 for Posh when they came into the football league in the early 60s'. I think there's only a small handful of players who've ever beaten that! Secondly, how many younger fans will be wondering what is dubbin ?
  16. Always brings back happy memories as the first ever City game I attended was against Saints at AG in the FA Cup 4th round in '67. A 1-0 win against a 1st Division team ( premier league in old money) and a 37,000 crowd. It's been downhill ever since! It hasn't really, as I was there the night we beat Pompey to secure promotion to the top flight and earlier this season took my grandson to AG for his first ever live football match. I still get the same nervous excitement every time I watch my team and just wish it was more often.
