If 2000 don't renew at £500 each SL will lose a million quid.

If Manning stays and wastes his war chest it could cost him 20 million quid.

    Not rocket science Steve.

    SL won't lose anything.
The club's budget will lose the million.
You see, it's a double edged sword. Whilst I fully agree that withholding your season ticket renewal sends a message, and a powerful one at that, such is the decline in SL's interest in the club, it means he won't underwrite the losses like he used to. I think he will simply order the clubs playing budget to be adjusted accordingly. When we then clamour for quality signings, they will simply say there is insufficient money in the budget to accommodate those signings and we'll be back to bargain basement freebies.
I think the supposed war chest people speak of is a red herring, certainly in terms of transfers. I think the bulk of it will be used to offset losses. We may get the quality forward we've been promised and one or two others but anyone who thinks we've got a transfer fighting fund of £25m is, frankly deluded.
I don't have a season ticket as work patterns prevent me from going regularly but if I did, I'd be renewing but demonstrating. Or, just not going. Anything really, but withholding the money the club needs badly to compete is understandable but ill-judged imho.
Neither Tinnion or the Lansdowns are going anywhere soon which is the real crux of the problem.

  2. I don't think he'll get the sack this season (Unless we were in real danger of relegation) simply because the pressure all goes back on the owners and Tins who've led us down this road. They won't admit failure.

I think they'll say that he deserves a full pre season with some new faces specifically recruited to suit his style of play (Whatever that is) and he'll then get 10 games.
There will be be exits and incomings, I don't think Conway will stay and I'd be surprised if there aren't 3 or 4 out the door also. The incomings (In addition to those already planned) are the key.
If he loses the first 5 he's gone and if he gets us off to a good start then confidence will grow and who knows what could happen.
My worst fear is we win a couple lose a couple a draw a few, that doesn't do anything for progression and leaves us back where we are. Bit like the Chinese water torture.
FWIW, I don't think he's the right fit here, he possibly could be with an experienced director of football who knows what he's doing but the tri party structure of JL, tins and Manning doesn't work. There's very little proper football experience there. Coaching is one thing, running a championship club is quite another.

  3. I let my season ticket go when stadia became all seater. I always felt the atmosphere became diluted and having been spoilt by the old first division days where you were packed in, swaying around and getting the crush when we scored was all part of the thrill of going. For me it all became a bit too sanitised, you suddenly had to mind your P's&Q's!
I don't think football will ever be the same as the modern way isn't the blood n' guts it used to be, something which made you want to stand. Tippy tappy football is fine on the telly but live doesn't get my pulse racing!
Won't be renewing purely because I can't justify the outlay. Shame because when your team's playing well and the football's exciting it's much easier to justify against the other outgoings.

The LMA themselves state that there is no standard manager contract “template”.  And I’m probably being pedantic re your use of the word “standard”, when it might be better to say it’s “often” 1 year.  Not that I’m great with words! 👍🏻

Yeah I could be wrong or misheard.
The discussion on the day was about the numbers of managers sacked at that time and their compo for going.
can't remember who the bloke was but he said they were working towards a common template.

All I’m saying is that termination clauses don’t have to match remaining term of contract.

I'm sure I heard on Talksport a while ago that the standard was one year's salary on termination. Obviously this can probably vary in an upward direction but I'm sure some bloke from the LMA said it was a years money.

@Philly The Kid - wow, an early “laugh” emoji response to the post - you obviously don’t want success either - like most of the ‘lets just consolidate in the championship and shut up’ brigade ... 😳🍷

What a presumptuous and ill considered response!
My laughing emoji relates entirely to SL's reaction to whenever Warnock's been mentioned to him in fans forums. He's about the last person (along with Hollowhead) that SL would let anywhere near the club.
Let's be honest, with their track record of appointments anything is possible but appointing someone who would've taken us to the PL when we should've appointed him is about as laughable as it gets.

Bit I don’t understand is. If what Manning says last night no contact, then today we would have had to negotiate a buy out figure for him, him to then agree to sign for us all before last nights rumours that an announcement was tomorrow.
    Timing don’t seem right.
I know he may have been lying, but someone would have leaked it by now.

There's bound to be a few ITK posters on the Oxford forum!!!!

Can’t agree with the bit about Dave, I think he actually tries really hard not to come across as a expert, even though he’s obviously very clued up on football in general.

I think at a time like this emotions do run high even on forums where people can sometimes struggle to get their point across in a way that doesn't offend.
I guess we've all typed something only then to back button it when we've thought whether it was appropriate.
I'm grateful for those genuinely ITK posters who keep us in the loop but actually sometimes the tit bits they throw us do more harm than good as peopl go off on tangents and quite often have their own agendas.
There is no excuse though for some of the responses given out though which are abusive, arrogant and dismissive. It's fine to disagree. That's debate.

You’ve made some pretty big assumptions there that rely on basic levels of competence from the decision makers at BCFC.

As pleased as they are with themselves that they now have an actual plan, and are keen to tell the world, I have absolutely zero confidence,( backed by 20+ years of proof) that they wouldn’t actually end up paying more than they can afford, nor do the due diligence necessary.

And with all of it, undo everything Nige has created.

Those of you able to see the benefits of Lampard, then good for you. Am genuinely jealous of your lasting optimism around any decision this club makes.

Well, you've made the assumption that I am A). A FL fan, and B). A fan of the board/decision makers at BCFC.
    I am neither actually!
My observations are based purely on what SHOULD happen. I actually have no faith in what WILL happen!
Anyone who applies deserves consideration if they're qualified and suitable. Let's be honest, our criteria for assessing applicants has previously been found wanting and I've no confidence it'll be any better this time.
That said, we're all hopeful the next incumbent will kick us on, so if it was FL then so be it.

  10. Presumably he's got his badges, has his own ideas and can bring something to the table.
On the balance of probabilities he's going to succeed at some point.
He might surprise a few, he might not. As for the expense, We won't be paying more than we can afford. He's not in a position to come and make unrealistic demands.
If the due diligence is done and he's a credible candidate based on facts then why not?

The point is said poster, who has unfortunately given up, makes a statement that he'll only support a club of moral ownership and pointed out that partner beating is an issue they cannot accept. So when it's pointed out that Steve allowed Nige to sign Simpson that is Nige's fault rather than shared responsibility. Surely the sort of morally rich owner this person wants to see would have told Nige to do one, first week in the job or not?

People's moral compass's seemed to get *Cough* manually re-aligned when a shed full of money is waived at you, or needs must, just ask Jordan Henderson.
I seriously doubt the HL rise to fame wasn't without some questionable practices back in the early days.
We all have things on our compass we find unacceptable. Let's be honest, no institution, company, club or individual is whiter than white and I'm always surprised at the naivety shown by some people when it comes to morals.

  12. You can imagine the evil post's headline....
"Neil Warnock will finally get his long held wish to manage Bristol City......"
When he's named until the end of the season. As City Chairperson Jon Lansdown added "We've identified who we want, we just can't get him.... yet".

Anything is possible isn't it? an absolute absolute clusterf*ck of a situation manifested by amateurs aided and abetted by a club legend with more faces than a clock tower.

  13. Without opening old arguments, and as much as I loathe the man with every nerve and fibre in my body, I'm convinced we'd have played premier league football under Warnock.
It wouldn't have been pretty but it would've been effective. I think he feels the same as well as he never seems to miss an opportunity to say we're one of the clubs he's liked to have managed.

Because let's be honest, he didn't sign this contract this evening did he? The timing of the announcement is the club showing they think we are all idiots.

To be fair, in some cases, they'd be right.
