The redevelopment of the area surrounding AG will look great but it won't directly help City

Anyone know if increased revenue attributed to the expansion of facilities - hotel, conference, basketball arena etc. in anyway benefits our FFP obligations?

  2. Joe's a proper city fan. We have a mutual friend and I've chatted with him down the gate a few times. Doesn't strike me as someone to prop up the establishment. Wants best for the club I'm sure.

Has it aired yet? Link appreciated if it has...

And don't forget, that was from not pushing on in the January window when we were well placed for an automatic promotion place.

And @Thomas_red has made 46 posts in 12 years. Draw your own conclusions there.

    Decent tenure low engagement? 😂

I was trying to illustrate that the poster sounded a lot like Monty Python sketch.

Look, I wanted more success and probably with some better decisions on and off the pitch we might have done it. The LJ era for example was successive almost playoff seasons. Football is cruel and the margins are fine.

All I’m saying is that the Lansdowns have acted with good intentions and made solid investments in club infrastructure as well as tried to establish a club with a business model (until our stadium development we didn’t even have corporate boxes).

Maybe it is time for new owners and some fresh direction. But we’re only a slightly attractive proposition due to that investment and Lansdown will rightly want a decent fee for years of piling cash in…

@Davefevs that car analogy is beneath you. A depreciating asset vs a revenue generating business... Really? Come on 😉

Bristol sport that organisation that's done Bristol city FC a world of good!! The start of Lansdowns reign it seemed pretty Rosey the days he came on the pitch talked us fans it all seemed that the football club was moving forward,But things started to change it wasnt just the football club in his thoughts the club he so called loved and supported it was to add other clubs into a organisation to move Bristol rugby into Ashton gate to own the flyers and now Bristol city women into Bristol sport. Yes the ground was rebuilt but not just for the football club it was to be used for events ie concerts etc etc Bristol rugby's new home. The training ground which I feel is the only decent investment he's done for our football club, If all his investment was a sole project of Bristol city football club the ground still owned by the club concerts and other events bringing in a financial income.what I'm trying to say is it feels we've had our club and ground taken away that feel good factor of supporting a club but not an organisation a rich man's play toy.  Just remember we came close all those years ago under Gary johnson but the football club had its own heart beat Ashton gate had a pulse we nearly achieved that premierleague spot. Now the football club under this Bristol sport umbrella feels flat as ever and worse off for it. Has Lansdown really benefited our football club!!

But apart from the stadium, the training ground, the financial stability to ride out tough economic times / covid, the play-off final what have the Lansdowns ever done for us?

  5. Yesterday city released their 'stealth' away kit, although if you haven't checked social media you might not know from checking the forum as the release is only being discussed alongside grievances with O'Neils as a manufacturer on another topic thread.

So, for the kit connoisseurs among you, here's a dedicated thread to evaluate the release - kit design, history and release media.

Personally I think this is one of the most successful kit designs in recent years and it's heartening to see the relationship between club and manufacturer grow. I didn't realise the 'City' in a circle was a nod to a programme from the 70's but I love this as a point of inspiration and the modern twist of 'stickerising' it (technical term) by overlaying them on one another to create a more abstract shirt pattern is a great touch.

The collar - through being less of a talking point than our home shirt - is a triumph. The purple and lime detailing appears to mimic some kind of graphic equaliser is again a nice detail that nods to Bristol's musical heritage. Most importantly it's the right size ;)

The launch and marketing - spot on. Local places. Mix of mens and womens team. Production value is high.

The negatives -  I do agree as a 'set of three' our 2023/24 line up does lack design consistency. And the bird 'splat' was a pretty big failure too. But those are the other kits/training wear so whilst overall we've not smashed it I do think this release is a winner.

So... what do we think? The site crash/out of stock messages suggests a positive sentiment is shared by other city fans but I'd love to know your thoughts.

Some of you may have seen this guy on twitter before, profiling managers and being pretty spot on.

But he just posted this today.

I don’t profess to understand it all, but thought I’d share.

If anyone can summarise, it would be good to get your thoughts.

Heres his recent one of Nige:

Thanks for sharing Dave. Always interesting to hear outsiders perspective on the club.

I agree with his assessment of LJ vs Pearson as tactician vs man manager/culture developer.

My view and one that he misses altogether is that we're all content with NP because he's also maintained stability in league table position whilst selling major assets, moving on players who harmed our financial fair play obligations through high wages and brought through youth.

I believe NP as sporting director with a tactician manager would be a great evolution of his time with the club, but at 60 nowadays he probably still has a decade of managerial tenure left to spend (should he want to) and I don't know if this directions aligns.

  7. Jon L has discussed the modelling of the club as part of a group of teams (Bristol Sport) that have mutually beneficial marketing opportunities and shared resource costs.

I can’t remember exactly - it may have been that he’s also participated as a speaker at a conference in the US, or been interviewed for articles that talk about the US sport model being something they’re trying to emulate in Bristol - but the intention seems pretty clear. Sell the business as a whole to a US buyer. Plenty of precedent for that in English football.

  8. Fill in the corners and add capacity (boxes or seats) in the Atyeo feels like the only options available.

If we were in the Premier League this season we'd have a larger ground than 6 of the clubs (with Fulham's new stand still incomplete).

  9. I’m 9 episodes into the series. After watching all the ‘all or nothing’ series I found it refreshing to see how things work at lower league level. Ryan and Rob aside it’s an insightful look into a world we’re fortunately insulated from due to Steve Lansdowns generosity (but still not immune to) Rovers aren’t far off this level with their tents.

I jumped on here to see what our fans thought and I’m honestly embarrassed by the anti-Welsh rhetoric and the fact that the majority haven’t seen the show (it is a show, not a documentary) which I think would convince most that the story is one of newsworthiness. Wrexham do have a great history and they were in dire straits. Rob & Ryan fully bought the club with this show as part of the business plan and it’s working… I’m sorry if that frustrates you somehow. There are parallels that are naturally drawn with other premier league owners from the US regarding lack of appreciation for the English Football League pyramid and our games culture and I get that, it’s a business after all, but I don’t think anyone can argue that these guys haven’t tried to understand how Wrexham fits into the community and how the community makes the club.

Super story and I’m happy for them. If it was us and we were closer to the prem we’d all be loving it.

  10. Hummel has been pretty uninspiring overall. Bristol Sport produced some great kits in their short tenure, although on occasion overdid it a bit with too many competing design features (think I remember Jon L saying that as they learned more about production they were able to add more details into the design). They reigned it in again in the final year with the grandad colour. Definitely my all time fav.

    Less is more.

    Wont be buying this.

  11. He could barely run after 30 mins... obviously did the business with the 2 goals, but you can see why we invite so much pressure with Wilbs just a passenger for the 2nd half. Just don't get how Cotts cannot see it.

I disagree. Wilbs is composed and confident when he's on the ball and an ever-present in the air. Didn't stop closing down all game and was a leader and an experienced head out there when it mattered. Cotts gave the two wings backs a rest albeit Bennett was probably tired from lack of match fitness (he had a quiet second half for me) and freeman who had been tireless. No choice but to keep the target man up top as an outlet in what was a tight second half.

Good management. Happy fan. On to the next one!

  12. First half summary:

Forrest didn't turn up and were caught cold by an explosive first 15 minutes where we played like we were top of League 1. The speights of possession they have enjoyed have been squandered by poor efforts from distance, partly due to some committed defensive efforts from the city back 4.

Bennett has looked impressive in possession and seems a very good addition to the squad, one chance to stretch the defence that he didn't quite make the most of.

Albi has been composed up front and that left him with plenty of time for his first effort that took a kind deflection followed by arial prowess for his second.

Freeman has been a touch of class when we've needed it in the final third. I'm disappointed that his disguised shot didn't creep in.

Frankie - a great reaction save to keep us at a clean sheet which would have been pivotal in terms of momentum had it done in. Well done.

Last 5 we were mature and protected the lead at a crucial point in the game.

Overall performance has been great. We need to be careful we aren't light in the middle when we concede possession as that's where Forest have looked like they could create something.

A very happy fan right here..... now where's that cider. COYR! Always believe.
