  1. Interesting how there are more and more decent stadia, which are less intimidating and the fig for away wins has gone up for I think the last 7 seasons - that's top 4 leagues.  It's all very well knocking twerton/mem if u r a city fan, and I'd do the same but it's certainly worth extra points for rovers.  I got dragged up to watch cov v mk Dons the other week, 9000 in a 34k stadium, it was practically a neutral match

That game was the start of the horrendous run against the blue few that lasted until Louie Donowa's 89th minute effort on 5th March 1991. I was at both games.

I remember the 1987 game well. We absolutely battered the Sags, battered them. A side full of non league and Mangadoo rejects. They looked like relegation fodder but somehow they managed to fluke a win and fluke avoiding relegation that season. Rovers had luck in bucket loads for well over a decade and punched far above their weight. They should have been in the 4th Division but with a load of Gas luck ended up as 3rd Division Champions. My fondest memory of 1987 was those rectangle hats in abundance. I have still got one in the loft.

Was stood in the East End on the night of 5th March 1991. Thought "Here we go again" especially when the squatters got a penalty. Started to leave the ground and just as I was about to exit the East End Donowa scored. It should have sparked a pitch invasion but it was so late in the game most people were just dumb struck that we had actually won. Weird feeling but the voodoo had been broken and after that we regularly put our foot on the Gas.

Oh dear!! Rovers were lucky for over a decade!!!   Relax, it's just a sport.

  3. What do any of you know about the rovers team standard, you don't go, maybe you see the odd Highlight on TV.   It's like me commenting on city, all I know is your doing pretty well and have a loaner striker who scores for fun.  If we go up we deserve it, if your in the prem next season you deserve it.         The only think for certain is that DC is a fantastic manager, motivationally, tactically, maybe Johnson is as well but it's too early for you to make the call.    I think it's great that players that were conference standard have improved so much on a technical level, it's gives hope to anyone in sport that if your coaching is good enough then you can advance quickly and its great for the game that it's not only splashing crazy cash that gets results, ie Leicester.  M Taylor is the prime example looked like an ave conf player, in 2 seasons he's become a Marcus Stewart clone, due to Marcus Stewart coaching.

On a separate note nice to hear Gerry gows relative on the radio earlier, really touched by the thoughts made ref Gerry by Bristolians

    That's it... Jager need.

OMG, what a smug looking bellend standing there with his boyfriend bitches. I have a good memory for faces so it shouldn't be too long before he gets his nose broken.

That's a nice pleasant post, is this forum supportive of violence?  Get a life you fool.

Well regardless of the fact it's Rovers, I don't mind saying I'm glad they won tonight. It means there is at least some justice for Swindon's detestable decision to charge again. Swindon deserved nothing from that game and I'm glad that's exactly what they got.

As for those attempting to mock the Rovers fans for their poor turnout, you miss the point entirely. In my eyes, the fewer they took tonight, the more impressive it would have been.

Well said.   No way was i going to pay again, and in the same circumstances most City fans would have done the same.     They actually only gave us the more expensive seats this time and not the open terrace, just to exploit the situation even more.  Looks like they ended up making a lose on the day with the reduced attendance and policing costs and getting 0 points.  Shame

Hahaha.  That's jager speak, well jager, some cocktails and ale speak. God, messy.

Enjoy the pre season guys, all rover's players players r getting contracts and we shall see what cash Wael is willing to spend.  I expect there be more changes at your end and u can see wot lansdown is more obliging than last year.

As for Taylor v Roofe.    Anyone who thinks roofe is a better player is either from Oxford or a city fan with issues (all of you).  Roofe is a luxury player with technique to burn, stick him in a struggling side and see what happens.  Taylor is more and more like m Stewart, and will run through a wall.  Cheers

Typical drivel from the "super fans"

Which sets of fans would that be then? Recently we've had Bolton, Ipswich, Cardiff, Brighton & Middlesbrough come to Ashton Gate. When did they last visit your dump? And likewise, I can't remember Accrington, Morecambe, Cambridge or York coming to Ashton Gate in the last couple of decades either.

Either provide proof of your ridiculous claim or kindly fudge off! Pathological liar....:)

Talk to anyone who goes to both grounds.   Actually its an interesting thing, and I think has it had something to the ground design.   I recall going to the old open away end at the gate and you can here virtually nothing from your fans. A few weeks later we had you again, I couldn't get a ticket and went in the city end (East stand) I think. It was loud. I looked up at the stand roof and there was a metal drop down which would have stopped the sound escaping from the stand.  A few years back when we were in the new away end, the one still used unless changed recently, we were losing and I wanted to be swallowed whole!! The only good thing is we couldnt here anything from the city fans and it made me feel much better.  So, I reckon the gate as I knew it had poor acoustics, which maybe has now been rectified.  There r other obvious things, all seater grounds r crap compared to terraces, maybe u don't get that at all anymore in the championship, or can't remember.  The mem is small, tight, mostly terraced, it has a great atmosphere. Although no doubt to be largely lost if we end up in a sterile, mass produced, all seater, looks like everywhere else stadium.

  8. For club that has no club song and whose fans can't even put their heads together to adopt or write one, its quite amusing seeing rover's chants/songs being criticised.   Maybe you should talk to non Bristol fans who have been to both grounds and see which they say has the best atmosphere, but you wouldn't like the answer.

  9. what a funny lot you are, i post sensible thread and you go all aggressive on me.

All this denial stuff, i spent pre season telling my city mates that you had no chance of a play off place, and they, like many on this board seemed to

be in a parallel universe.   Then there are the "Brendan Rogers", "moyes" managerial posts.  Seriously!!!

Anyway - Rovers owners value. It wasnt bought by Waed, it was bought by his family who are Billionaires.  How much is he worth, i dont know,

but your missing the point.  Look at Swansea, Leicester, the structure of the club is far more important.

If i was a city fan i would be quite pleased, any chance of lansdown sitting on his laurels, or maybe concentrating more on the rugby, have probably taken a turn.

I think City will progress more with Rovers playing catch up, and visa versa.

    All the best...
