I remember a Portuguese striker. Must have been 19. We had him on a weird trial and he played a few games and scored away at Bury I think. Went to play for Portugal under 19s or whatever it was at a summer tournament that year, got player of the tournament and for whatever reason we didn't sign him and he didn't do a lot after. During the Wilson era I think. Cant remember his name at all

    That was Lourenco Dasilva

  2. Jehad Muntasser - signed from Arsenal reserves in Jan 1998 as an attacking midfielder/striker but released a year later having never played a game.  Another from Arsenal was Jordan Wynter, made a couple of appearances then never seen again.

Used to enjoy going there, great old school ground.
Just looked and it was over 20 years ago my last visit 😳

Remember that game well, on the Bank Holiday Monday.  Think it was one of a few of Benny's wins.  Adam Locke (very underated) with a header, then they got a corner straight away and hit the bar!  Bit lively as well outside.

  4. I think nothing will happen now until the end of the season.  We have home games against Blackburn, Rotherham and Huddersfield next month and I think that will be the litmus test for me if we can see any green shoots or whether to call it a day.

Two major sticking points for me are...

    1. Who on earth do we go for next to replace Manning.

    2. He will have a  3 year contract to pay off (god only knows why we gave him 3.5 years)

  5. Watched his Under the Cosh podcast on YouTube - definition of a legend in his own lunchtime.
For everyone who seems to have mellowed about Rovers over the past 20 years, remember this still the reality for a large majority of their fan base  - jealously, spite and delusion.

Stewart’s legs had gone but at least he did want to be here.

Bridges completely took the piss, seen out clubbing after games when he was “injured”. Waster.

Tinnion’s signings were largely disastrous, Alex Russell was decent & a proper manager (GJ) turned Orr into an outstanding RB, Tinnion would never have done that.

    ‘Largely disastrous’

Despite signing Steve Brooker for a bargain 225k and pairing him alongside Lita - 45 goals between them in 2004/05.

Also fast tracked David Cotterill through the academy who we sold to Wigan for 2m in 2005, and also gave Scott Goldbourne his chance.

Orr, Russell, and the underrated Heffernan as well.

This thread should be called Brian Revisionism

  7. I always see similarities in 2008 with 2018.

In 2008 Stoke brought in reinforcements in that transfer window which got them over the line, while we brought in Adebola and Carle which really disrupted our rhythm.

In 2018 we brought in Diony and Kent - enough said.

  8. It will be typical Bristol City to win at Ipswich tomorrow night then lose to Swansea.  Regardless, Manning was brought in for the longer term whether we like it or not, hence the 3.5 year deal.  I think the board will be hoping that a couple of wins will put to rest any relegation fears, and the focus within the club will more than likely switch to the summer - with a load of progress and update videos on Stokes, Murphy, and Bird to shift next years season tickets and to divert attention away from the here and now.

  9. The strange thing is in my 40 years following city I’ve not had the inclination to listen to a single manning interview.
Even Benny bless him had a bit of passion about him and was doing what he thought was best, this guy seems to think football is some excel formula you tweak depending on the opposition

  10. Maybe not in the hero category but I thought Adam Locke was a great signing on a free transfer from Colchester, and I am not sure anyone knew what we were getting when we forked out £80,000 to Boston for David Noble.

Such fond memories of that place, I remember the night game against cardiff  possibly 2000. They had a police escort through the park and everything not nailed down was  emptied and launched in their direction, the police charged into the pub batons swinging, I got a couple of clunks to the back and (God bless him, RIP) Scooter got one right on the hooter, leaving him with a very bloody nose, much to my amusement, now anyone that remembers or knew Scooter will know why thats funny (for those that didnt have the honor of knowing such a lovely man, he had a rather large nose).  That pub really could tell some stories, not many tried their luck and those that did failed.

I’d agree apart from when we played Sheff Wed at home in Nov 2004, the year after we lost 1-0 up there under Danny Wilson. Sauntered in there are lunchtime and it was full of their finest.

  12. If we are looking for a bit more physicality (I don't necessarily mean target man) then I wouldn't mind having another look at Cauley Woodrow.  Scored goals at this level, and I don't think he is making Luton's match day squad at the moment (unless he is injured).  I doubt we will be spending £££ on fees either.

  13. I think our strike force is poor for where we want to be (or where Jon Lansdown expects us to be).

Conway has great potential and looks a natural finisher, but I think too much is being loaded onto him and seems to have been rushed back from injury.

Wells will be 35 when is contract runs out in 2025 and has scored twice all season with zero assits, and Weimann who is also into his 30s hasn't scored in 10 games this season, meanwhile Cornick has scored 3 in 27 appearances.

That leaves Bell and Yeboah - one out of form, the other very raw.
