I wonder if he was talking to the lino to confirm there was no chance of offside?

Think he was waiting to see the reaction of the two players involved before deciding as more often that is the giveaway in right or wrong. Notice the Blackburn defender didn’t complain when he did give it because he knew it was blatant as did the players around it.

When we win on Sunday, at least we won’t have to play the Cov away, league game at the end of Jan🤞

Coventry are home to Oxford so think we’ll be avoiding that fixture anyway.🤞

The fact he did come back out and continued doing the same thing, if not more so - doesn't that tell you it was more likely by instruction rather than him going rogue, getting a bollocking at half time, then going rogue again?

When we build in general Tanner drops back a bit to make more of a 3 with Dickie and Vyner, and then Pring pushes up so we're a bit lopsided. That was happening again today with then Weimann drifting infield. I actually thought he was fine today, and he was about the only one making runs along the front line in the first half.

I'd have brought Sykes on for Conway and moved Weimann central for 15m in the second half, before then replacing him with Wells. I'm sure I'm in a huge minority with that though!

Was subbed after 9 minutes of the second half for Sykes who stayed wide and then Bell who also stayed wide when Sykes went off might point towards Weimann being in his own little bubble. Agree he should be played centrally but think maybe he’s trying too hard with the captaincy or he’s just not playing the role he’s told to.🤷‍♂️

Sorry that's nonsense.  I've seen him play far, far worse.  I liked the fact he was trying to get into goalscoring positions today.  Was amazed when Mehmeti was left on and he was hooked. Would've liked to have seen him on the left.

Shocked Weimann made it to the second half, was like a 6 year old kid following the ball across the pitch. When you’ve got 3 in the middle the last thing you need is a supposed wide player standing in the middle of the pitch. Gave us zero output on the right hand side especially as we have Tanner on the right because he won’t progress into the space. For an experienced pro I’m really disappointed and annoyed by his lack of football intelligence. Genuinely don’t think we will lose much if he goes soon.

    Yes. You may be right.

However the only time you saw Wieman do anything was when he was yelling at the referee.

Conway seems to have lost all confidence in front of goal

We were comfortable playing the ball in pretty triangles going nowhere

Tanner was weak the entire game. The OG was from a trade mark foot dangle.

Vyner switched off. He has hardly been switched on in the last four games.

They Norwich, had very little quality. It was a weak own goal and a switched off center back.

We don’t have quality. I’m not sure Mr Lansdown jnr agrees

it I guess we saw it differently!

On Conway I’d say he’s more fed up with the style of play than confidence, as a striker you want to know that if you miss a chance then another will come along and I don’t see us playing the style that keeps him busy in and around the box.

Tanner isn’t weak he lost his head because of the OG and that was visible so should have been replaced rather than waiting for him to get booked for a stupid foul and grow into himself even more.

Vyner always switches off, he’s always been a reactive player than proactive, watch him every game make a mistake and then TBF he does recover well but unfortunately today it was against someone with pace.

I think we do have quality but not where we need it and where it shows which at this level is the difference.

It makes complete sense. Sort of like an Andy  Llewellyn/Louis Carey type player who would likely stay with us doing a good job yet not be so good that they go elsewhere ( and before the pedants say about Coventry- it was fleeting).

I was thinking the same but more like what Barry Bannan has been for Sheffield Wednesday.

    FT 2-0, scores flatters Cardiff.

We played well 2nd half, lost our way a bit after Mehmeti was subbed off (should have been Weimann). Mehmeti looked decent in a more central role.

Shout out for J.James and J.K. Lebel, both did pretty well on their debuts.

Didn’t even realise Weimann was playing today, completely anonymous again.

Didn’t look happy and had a bit of stuff to say as he went to sit down. Pearson literally ordered him to come and sit beside him. There was a few words, then he went and sat a few rows back in the dugout m.

Probably more performance or his on-pitch demeanour. Either way, I think it was more Pearson didn’t like something he saw with him.

    Again.

Was lazy in his play when on and was pointing out Yeboah to do his defensive work for him.

So you punish a team when a player has a genuine injury and give an advantage to the team that caused it?

Not necessarily as most managers that are genuinely concerned will pull their players off straight away, it’s the clubs that get their players to feign injury that will be punished and rightly so.

Thanks for sharing this . Amazing what they can do now . Doesn’t damage the pitch when they have concerts etc . Think they have similar at Lille . When do we think Uncle Steve might get on these pitches at the Gate ?!!

Certainly would help if the football and rugby pitches were under opposite stands.

  11. Probably best to put things into perspective in the fact that yes he’s not young but he is still inexperienced in that he’s made 62 appearances for us at championship level and 30 for Shrewsbury at league one level. Compare that to Cam Pring who is now classed as a real quality championship level player who has made 68 championship appearances for us, 9 league one appearances for Portsmouth and then 36 league two appearances for Newport, Cheltenham and Walsall so maybe a little more patience is required with Max considering his growth with us.

Why does everyone sleep on Matty Hill Technique lacking on occasion but good enough to win player of the year at Preston (in the Championship) and have a promotion with Wolves then go on to play in the PL with Wolves all at Left back

Argument for Matt Hill based on the level he played on a consistent basis for big clubs, being our best academy product but he is seemingly forgotten, key man under Danny Wilson great CB at League 1 level. Danny Coles and Butler took credit in 03/04 for our defensive performance but Hill was exceptional defensively

Went to school with Matty and you’re right, defensively sound. Had he been taller he would have been made a top top centre half.

The reality was worse than the stats portray imo. So many of Tanner’s 45 passes were backward to Vyner or O’Leary; too few were played forward with any attacking intent.

I like George and have been generally impressed with him. Like so many other City players on Saturday (and our singers and tellers) he seemed nervous, unsettled and on edge in the first half. Let’s hope that it was a one off.

Do you think he may have been more involved/progressive with Sykes in front of him instead of Cornick who seems to be an easy option for a long ball/aerial duel?

  14. Passing stats today according to Sky were

    Tanner-45 passes 68.9%

    Vyner-55 passes 85.5%
    Dickie-69 passes 72.5%
    Pring-38 passes 57.9%
    Weimann-6 passes 66.7% subbed 23
    James-39 passes 76.9%
    Knight-34 passes 64.7% subbed 88
    Cornick-16 passes 56.3% subbed 70
    Wells-13 passes 84.6% subbed 69
    Bell-14 passes 42.9% subbed 87
    Williams-35 passes 60% subbed 23
    Sykes-8 passes 50% subbed 70
    Conway-4 passes 100% subbed 69
    King-6 passes 33.3% subbed 88
    Mehmeti-1 pass 100% subbed 87

    team 425 passes 65.6% accuracy

clearly very poor down the left side today and the failure to keep possession after the subs shows we weren’t good enough with the ball.

    20 tackles 75% successful and 18 clearances.

Was he not falling/sliding at the time? Always tough with them. Only caught one look from distance on a stream, mind you.

He was trying to block the shot and it got struck from close range, VAR probably would have slowed it down as much as possible and just shown it between his hands to the ref so that he’d have had no option other than to give it.
