  1. Here we are again - FA Cup night under the lights by the Trent. We’ve got players back now so the defence is stronger and Kouyate will come straight in to midfield alongside Danilo. Elanga is back as is Awoniyi so the frontline will be a lot quicker. I think we will field the strongest side and try to get it done by half time to rest Awoniyi and Elanga for the weekend. Hudson Odoi will probably be out after the studs down his Achilles vs Bournemouth.

    Turner

    Montial - Omobamidele - Murillo - Toffolo

    Kouyate - Danilo

Williams - Gibbs White - Elanga

    Awoniyi

    Nigeria v Cameroon tonight

    Senegal v Ivory Coast Monday

Senegal should beat Ivory Coast so Willy Boly, Serge Aurier and Ibrahim Sangare should be back for the replay.

Just a brief update as the question is being asked: Willy Boly is Murillo’s usual CB partner and we are much more solid with him back. Mad Serge might be on the bench though Montial was pretty poor on Wed so he could start. Sangare was a £30m signing from PSV in the summer and meant to be transform our midfield but he’s struggled with the pace of the Prem so far. The replay could be Awoniyi’s first game back - thank **** - He’s deceptively quick and knocks CB’s about for fun. We’re trying to sign two wingers from Ajax and Dortmund and hopefully a competent GK - Could be Kasper Schmeichel. There could be 4 or 5 changes from Wednesday. Unfortunately Elanga will still be out. His speed is what unlocked Newcastle and Man U in recent games - I never though I’d see a player quicker then Bren Johnson play for us.

So, as we’ve seen Manning favours a high possession, high pressing style of football that is similar to what teams like Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea use. He likes to play with three at the back, two wing-backs, two creative midfielders and a lone striker. This system allows us to dominate the ball, create chances and press the opposition high up the pitch. It also gives us defensive solidity and flexibility to switch formations if needed.

This style of play works well against Premier League teams because they also like to play out from the back and keep the ball. We can disrupt their rhythm, force them into mistakes and exploit the spaces they leave behind. However, this style of play is not as effective against Championship teams because they are more physical, direct and like to play a much deeper block against us.  We’ve struggled against teams like this in the league, so, are we better suited to play in the Premier League than the championship? 😉

In theory perhaps but when it’s played at the pace of tonight you will get torn apart in the Prem. Your three at the back becomes 5 at the back because the wing backs get penned in. The two in midfield get bypassed and you can’t get out your own half. We tried playing exactly like that when we went up and were getting mullered 4 and 5 nil.

So we are saying that Robin Hood was colour blind?

The boring answer was that when the club was formed in 1865, they bought 12 tasseled caps in colour of Garibaldi red (named after the Italian freedom fighter and his ‘redshirts’) Thus our nickname is the Garibaldi Reds. Our first ground was at the Forest Racecourse hence, Nottingham Forest. The whole Robin Hood nonsense happened a lot later.

What's the deal with Worrall? He seems to have gone from key player to outcast rather quickly.

He fell out spectacularly with Steve Cooper - Coops dropped him for the trip to Anfield, Worrall threw his toys out the pram and refused to travel to the game. As he’s club Captain, most people think he’s in the wrong. The other issue is he’s too slow and can get bullied by Prem forwards so he’s lucky to make the bench anyway.

    That's a pretty strong team!

Surely some rotation from last match considering arsenal on Tuesday. Players like Mckenna, Williams, Aguilera, Toffolo to come in?

We’re still learning about Nuno but he doesn’t seem to rotate for the cup, he didn’t for Blackpool. The players you quoted + Worrall are all the options we have. The rest of the bench will be U21’s. Aguilera is the only attacking option on the bench. Yates went off injured vs Blackpool and we had to put Nico Williams in Midfield.
