Is this a ‘Join the pile-on’ thread. if so, I’m in the wrong place. uuuuredzzzzzxxx -
Not necessarily my absolute favourite but ‘We all dream of a team of Ivan Sproules’ always made me laugh; so did ‘Let’s pretend we’ve scored a goal’ but that was an always look on the bright side moment as we were usually 4-0 down away from home when that was sung.

No shame? Our ability to give the ball away time after time and never win a 50 50 is in fact full of shame. -

Sorry to pour oil on boiling waters, but that is a really good result. -
Great first start for us. He’s been through it alright. Great interview too. More natural presence in front of a camera than the behaviours robot.

Bit random but..reading of the teams.
stortfordred replied to Mr Popodopolous's topic in Football Chat
I’m getting old but I remember when the announcement of each City player’s name would result in huge cheers. In those days, there were few announcements and the crowd made the noise ok there were some who got louder cheers than others but now it just seems to be a general meh. And I’m afraid that seems to last the whole game. Not just st AG!!!! Football in a library!! TV to blame. -

Agree with many of the comments on here but for me, there was also the element of Manning and co being out-thought by their management team. They soaked up all our possession first half and then decided to change formation and give it a bit of a go. Their no 17 started to give Pring a torrid time. Manning failed to work this change out and then compounded it by taking James off. We then lost the control we’d had in the first half even if that control had been a bit toothless. We badly missed Sykes first half and his injury looked like a hamstring which could mean he’s missing for a while. Hugely frustrating game and although you need patience, all that passing back once we’d broken the first line drives me mad. I can’t believe that’s down to Manning. It’s the lack of bravery on the ball-they’re just so afraid to lose possession. -
Agree it was a very very strong performance all round. Left side superb. If Pring had another 4-5mph to latch on to those thro balls and Anis had a final pass or shot, we could have had a real hatful. Not complaining- just shows how good we were.

Why Are We Constantly Celebrating Average & Our Failed Past?

Should we, however, try to not sink to that level and maintain our composure, however inflammatory the responses? Worth considering if we wish to debate issues rationally. It will give you the high ground as well!!! -
Why Are We Constantly Celebrating Average & Our Failed Past?

An interesting debate if suffused with a rather argumentative attitude from the OP despite his/her willingness to admit they might be prepared to listen to other points of view. As football fans we are all riddled with emotion. We don’t (apart from the glory hunters) choose to support our club. It’s kind of in the DNA and thus all logic goes out of the window. Bragging rights is the legacy of past glory and thus important to mentality. Just listen to Chelsea singing ‘Champions of Europe, you’ll never be that’ to teams that are temporarily above them in the league. They may have been that, but that doesn’t mean they’re not currently hurting. In fact at any one time, 80-90 % of clubs are probably hurting. It’s the lot of the football supporter. Only on Monday I was listening to how great West Ham are playing at the moment. Look what happened to them tonight!! I often hear that it’s the hope that kills you. Well at the moment, as City fans, it’s the lack of hope that kills us. It’s been that hope that has kept most of us going. Sleeping giants etc. We’ll get there soon etc. We’re a big city and so on. We can’t choose our past but we can be proud of some of it and hope that better will come. I’m no happy clapper but I do believe in the maxim ‘If you can’t say anything nice, say nothing’. So does all this negativity and wingeing at other fans help? Of course it doesn’t. I don’t disagree with some of the OP’s points but the very fact that s/he chose to open the debate, means everyone is at each others’ throats and it exacerbates an already toxic atmosphere. uredzzzz -
However that does create a problem for the fans who are over 12 and want to attend the odd game; they can never buy a ticket in a half empty ‘sold out’ stand it also means that the stand always looks half empty. There needs to be a family area. Probably in the Lansdown which is where you can buy kids tickets. I’m not innocent myself because back in the day my kids had a season ticket but I only had one and therefore one had to stay at home. I wouldn’t have minded being shunted into a family area. Even longer ago there used to be a Saturday footballers season ticket. You were guaranteed the same seat and you could choose which 8 games you wished to attend. Rest of the time your seat was empty. Same problem but I guess we were in the third tier then so the club ere grateful for any money you could get. Need to encourage the kids but not at the cost of a half empty home end and subsequently no atmosphere.
