Oh and the proof of this particular pudding is the five week turn around at Spurs. Nothing has changed in the ownership structure but, at the moment, they have attacking, entertaining football so the hatred of the owner (all too evident a short time ago) fades into the background.

It’s been said many times but we need to be careful what we wish for. Better, in my opinion, to be regularly competing well in the Championship than failing miserably in the Prem. I wonder if Sheff Utd fans are waking up this morning feeling that they’ve entered the promised land. Give me entertaining, attacking football at 3pm on a Saturday and I don’t care about the balance sheet and the whys and wherefores of amortisation. I care that some of our best players have gone and it’s probably bad that we don’t get the money for them up front but there will hopefully be another taxi on the rank. I’d rather have a local owner; there is probably none of them that are really perfect. Bloom has probably got just as big an ego as SL (is that really an issue? Steve seems reasonably modest for a billionaire to me) and for every team like Brighton or Bournemouth there is an Oldham, a Charlton or a Barnsley. Yes the communication leaves something to be desired but let’s get the game back and worry less about the business. Too much of a romantic I suppose but……when the ball hits the goal, whether it’s Cheesley or Cole, it’s amore.

Slam dunk mate. Slam dunk!

Quite right. Love Tinman. Legend for me with boots on. Knows a player. But… But love me duck, he ain’t the one who’s going to take the club forward for n the way a Gould or a Scudamore could bits a different skill set entirely. OK Alexander was less than visible. He wasn’t shit like Ashton either but unless the club is to be sold, you need someone really brilliant in that role.

Who can we sacrifice to free up salary space?
stortfordred replied to Simon bristol's topic in Football Chat
According to Wikipedia: ‘The use of the suffix -gate after an identifying term has since become synonymous with public scandal,[16][17][18] especially political scandal.’ Therefore the following: ’Ashtongate was named after the political scandal in Bristol involving the administration of CEO Mark Ashton from 2016 to 2021 that led to Ashton’s resignation. The scandal stemmed from the administration's attempts to cover up its involvement in many spurious and hopeless football transfers to the Bristol City headquarters in the West Country.’ I therefore feel that the world famous home of Bristol City should be sponsored and renamed so that I don’t have any reminders of that donkey who dropped us in it from a great height. -

I'm not very well and I don't know where else to go
stortfordred replied to Porto Red's topic in General Chat
This is basically me. I know that tomorrow I will stand at the back of the Dolman thinking ‘Why the hell am I putting myself through this?’ But even after ten minutes if we’re one nil up I will be wishing for the end even tho I love watching football. sometimes I prefer going to other grounds because I can enjoy the football for football’s sake. I am however safer emotionally at the gate than ‘watching’ on BBC.co.uk or radio5live because some fukin stupid thoughts make me feel I can influence the outcome. I’ve never been able to watch City on the telly. Explain that one !!! -

Welling up as I read this. Wonderful support offered along with well crafted, heartfelt words. Like Ivan, I have a daughter who is really struggling and that affects everything. However she did eventually agree to having help and she is a little better now. Robin may not want help now but that is a recognised stage. Help is available when that stage passes but it isn’t easy to find the right help as services have been so run down. Wishing you all a better day!! Uredzzz -
Seriously though: the only goose laying eggs is the Prem and although Luton have got there without much investment, their progress (as well as Sheff Utd) is a little more random than Brighton or Bournemouth. Brighton appears to be the only model that bears scrutiny. They can afford to sell players now they have got there. We can’t afford not to but with the likes of Scott and Webster, we are selling any chance of promotion. Football is never a jam tomorrow profession. It’s all in the here and now.

How to build a nest egg in football? Start with half a dozen eggs and a few nests. oh and give some of them to a rugby club.

Shows the problem with pre-season against low ranking sides. No challenge and then too much of a step up when the real stuff starts. -

Alex isn’t currently playing in league one; he probably is better than Bournemouth and why would he listen to any advice from his suitors? That’s like asking Red Riding Hood to listen to the Wolf. -

Agree. 7 months is a very long time in football. It’s actually as long as three Watford managers. If 7 months isn’t long enough to realise that branding needs resolving, that footballers don’t want to play in a shit shirt, that the supporters are crucial then you ain’t never going to get it.

Watching the England game v Denmark. Denmark’s kit is that Hummel red one which was template for ours. Comparing that to O’Neils it looks mint.

You not NP then? Seriously, I wasn't just referring to you but the previous 88 pages. All fans forums do it but it works better for selling clubs when it is someone like Semenyo who probably wasn't worth that money. Clubs that sell their very best players will rarely cut it. Brighton are an exception and although Peterborough punch above their weight, they're not really doing great on the pitch, are they? Let's see what happens to West Ham without Rice. -

Why are we touting this boy around? Surely a supporter wants the best players to stay in their team not move somewhere else?
