I ,for one could live without ever seeing one again!

This ... remember beating them 3-0 in the league one month, then losing 3-1 the next month, both at AG.

The late 80's and Trumpton years were painful ... happy to never play them again!

  2. Always hope for a win myself .... been in this situation over many years with some managers teetering on the edge, but in a '6 pointer' like this I just feel we can't afford to not win ... there are other games we may lose soon that could drop us into the bottom 3, with potential changes then happening, but at least by beating Burton they may be kept closer to us for the final run in!

Saying all of that, I get why people think differently ... however, whilst opinions differ it all comes from the same place of loving the club!

Last time I was there watching City, we were stuffed 5-0 in the rain standing on the terraces & Keith Waugh was named motm after shipping 5!! I'm imagining much the same today.. only difference.. seats!

Remember that well ... plus the 2 seasons before making a 0-0, 3-0 and 5-0 run ... 1800 miles and didn't even see a goal, with the middle one being the Messiah's return so the Gallowgate was heaving and we had loads of Geordies in with us!

    Those were the days!

Only been there once, 2-1 win and I seem to recall a Shelton chip for the second. I stand to be corrected.

I have now turned over a new leaf, I will no longer bet on City. All this year I have not got one right until Tuesday, where for a trial I bet both teams to score and Hull to win, I would rather City win and I didn't so no more and just a hearty COYR !

Another great game thread @havanatopia , glad the funeral went as well as can be expected, went to a friends funeral earlier in the year and that was played/sung after the service, surprisingly moving.

Was there too for that Sheldon chip ... think it was early 90s and a good day out.

Remember we got there early and the pub had got some Cider in specially for the City fan's - also had the stereotypical old man with a wippet in the corner of the pub.

Apparently its Swindle fans, I'm not so sure it is

Must admit that as soon as I saw this I wondered whether they were Swindle fans, as would make more sense ... because a Rovers fan tweeted it, maybe people just assumed it was Rovers fans?

My broader view is this could happen to any away team in the country, its just flipping hilarious that on this occasion it so happens to be them.

Yes OK they do have one or two OK fans, but the majority of them are grade a tossers. Have you ever had sight of their forum? Very stark differences between our fans and their fans.

Not only have their fans been involved in many unsavoury embarrassing incidents the club they also support is just as bad as them, trying to get Wycombe kicked out the league, trying to steal our ground, stealing the rugby ground, Darrell's 'happy days' comments, watering their pitch so they could postpone the game before playing us, showing our scores on the scoreboard etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

So add it all together and almost everyone associated with that club deserve zero sympathy.

Think it must just be who people know or interact with then, which I appreciate will be different based on various factors.

I know many Gasheads, with them being friends, colleagues and shamefully some from the dark side of my family. On the whole, most of them are decent enough people who I share 'bantz' with but in life I wouldn't wish any ill on them - Rovers doing poorly is to do with a wind up for me, just as it was through the 80s for them.

Yes, there are some who fit the stereotype we see on here, but does that make me want people I know to be out of pocket ... no, it doesn't.

Don't really go on their forum much, occasionally do to check out stuff my Gashead neighbour has talked about and yes you do see that stereotype in all of it's abundence, but not sure that forums are always fully representative of a clubs complete fanbase.

Yes, from our side as a club they appear to have delusions of grandeur, thoughts of superfans who are unequivocally loved across the country etc, but in reality I haven't really worried about them for a number of years, other than to keep up to date for the 'wind up' moments with my Gashead friends. The JPT game brought it back a bit but just feels different to when I was younger ...

I get that for some people there are specific events that have created the dislike and after attending City games at Eastville, Trumpton and the Mem I do understand, if not agree. Whilst I may not appreciate some aspects of Bristol Rovers football club, I don't necessarily attribute that to all of their fans and even if I do to some, it's still more of a wind up ... I honestly have more important things in life to care about.

Ultimately people can chose to think, feel and post on here as they see fit ... think this might be the first time I have posted on this thread, as whilst I read it sometimes for more ammo, it isn't my thing - however, I am not one of the people who says it shouldn't exist or it should be moved as this is a forum and people clearly want to participate in it.

Anyway, on to more important things ...

This beauty was posted on gaschat earlier....

I honestly believe we are now on the same level again as City apart from them having a new stadium built and playing one level above us for one more season.Remember, just over a year ago they were just leaving the div we are 're- entering, yet them across the river always act as if they are Man Utd and we are Stockport! The "gap" that they have gone on about is down to us failing to move forward as a club rather than there growth.

However Bristol Rovers FC is now a very different beast to the one that failed for so many years...We have the best set of players I can remember, our best ever manager in charge and a very rich... however very humble, very ambitious new set of owners that want to take us to the stars.

I will be AMAZED if in 5 years time we are not playing in a new stadium in front of our largest consistent crowds ever being at least top half championship club.If City can be at that level in 5 years time,or even above that then fair play to them, but for the first time ever we as a football club can aim as high as we desire and need to focus purely on ourselfs.

Don't go on their forums as not something that really interests me but the above did, so went and had a look.

That thread is funny, although I notice the same poster earlier in the thread referred to 'Trumpton' ... reckon before long he will be accused of being a 'Gert Ted' in disguise up to mischief.

You haven't taken the piss though, you've just bumped the thread constantly for no apparent reason.

Fair enough if that's what floats your boat but I think most people are probably confused by it tbh. You're still below us, you still play in a ground with a tent for a stand, you still struggle to get 10k at home. You can say "tick tock" as much as you want but that isn't anything different than the same boring shit you lot have been saying every year for the last 15 years anyway.

So go on then...give us your best 'piss taking' Saghead...

He appears to have bumped it a few times ... therefore think there is an entirely apparent reason, this being that his bumping gives him and some of his fellow Gas friends the chance to continue to get over excited over our 'obsession' with them.

I quite like some of the Gas who have joined this thread, and others, as the banter replicates what happens between various family members I have who are red or blue and I really can't take it that seriously in the grand scheme of life - agree that this guy doesn't appear to have understood the art of humour though but let's see what pure gold he delivers next ...
