  1. Flood Warning Ive just recieved from the EA:

Storm Eunice is expected to bring severe gale force winds across the Bristol Channel early on Friday, coinciding with low spring tides. We are expecting this to cause very large and powerful waves along the coast.

Forecast high water is 08:15 on 18/02/22 with a level of 7.43 mAOD and a Force 9 South Westerly wind. All times are local and refer to the high water time at Avonmouth, mAOD is height above average sea level for more detail refer to local tide tables. Flooding to roads and farmland is possible at these times, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide.

We expect flooding to affect the Severn Estuary at Oldbury-on-Severn, Northwick and Avonmouth including Aust and Old Passage.

We are closely monitoring the situation.   Our incident response staff are closing flood gates and liaising with emergency services.

Please be careful along beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths and roads and stay aware in case further warnings are issued.

We will update this message as the situation changes and new information is available.

  2. They had Bradley on Talksport earlier, came across as a really nice lad passionate about the club and devastated that he was in this position and how badly the club was being run. He said GMP couldn't impose any ban and no law had been broken so they would not be getting involved and he was also advised he could still attend away games.

They asked for a Oldham representative to come on and 5mins later the owner phoned in from the UAE I couldn't catch everything he was saying as the line wasn't clear and I was driving but he basically said it was his club and he could do what he wanted, he also felt the protests were aimed more at his family and the club than himself and that was what offended him!!

He was a arrogant **** and stood stead fast by his decision. When asked if they could attend games he told the presenters they could come back only if they apologised and promised to "behave" when asked what he meant by behave he skirted around the issue but basically said don't criticize.

I was still going to work and it absolutely felt like a lockdown. Going to work and then not being able to do anything to unwind was awful, my mental health seriously suffered in Feb/March.

I did say "for some". We are all different I'm sure if you are a "social animal" the lockdown was hell and I'm sorry to hear you suffered. Personally the football was the last thing I missed, so much so I will probably never attend a live game again not because of Covid I just didnt miss it.

I presume you would be vehemently against another lockdown based on your experience ?

Exactly, my wife's a carer and my Son is a front line worker, he was asked to furlough due to previous medical condition in the previous lockdown, he chose to carry on working.

I personally know 3 people who had lost thier businesses due to lockdown, one took 10 years to build it up. Alot of people are championing lockdown so they can sit around in their pajamas all day, whilst carers, nurses, postman take all the risks...Selfish people.

Yes mate but it wasnt a dig as Im sure a fair few missed work and the interaction but I think people forget how many had to carry on throughout and put there selves at risk whilst still having lockdown restrictions imposed on them. Im sure those pushing for it wouldn't be so keen if they had to do a 12 hour shift mixing with all and sundry and then having their freedoms taken from them in their spare time.

  5. I can guess why people were out yesterday, they are not being selfish or stupid I would guess these are the same people who have had no option during the week other than to go to work.

Apart from the fantastic NHS staff you have the supermarket workers that are taking daily abuse and keeping the shelves stocked for the same people who want a steady stream of food so they have the ability to self isolate. The lorry drivers that deliver the goods, the manufacturers of the goods right down to the makers of the cardboard boxes that pack the goods. The garage workers and tyre fitters who have to keep the transport on the roads, the fuel attendance who are keeping the pumps going. The Water workers that are keeping your taps running and the sewage workers that are making sure you can still flush all that bog roll that’s being hoarded. The bin men that are picking up all the extra rubbish being created and the landfill workers accepting it, I could go on………………. !

Slagging them off because they have gone all week keeping services going under the threat of the virus and knowing they are having to go back to work this week whilst being put under the same threat to be told they are thick/stupid/selfish for having a walk in the park on their day off is just not on.

Yes there are some extremely selfish people out there at the moment but how many on public transport and tubes today are doing all these “key services” to allow those that can self isolate the luxury ?  My wife and I would love to self isolate (we have vulnerable relatives that we cannot see)  but it would be one less person keeping the shelves full and one less ensuring you can pull your flush so please think carefully before you judge.

    Take care all.

There it is! Nothing to do with their owner being a complete fraud - of course it's a 'Ted' holding up their progress.

The "bloke" from the fruit market who put out the post is in fact Gas and his family have close links too Rovers.

Rovers owner is Dwayne Sports PLC, a bunch of foreign chancers with no affiliation to the club who only bought it on the off chance of relocating it to South Gloucestershire, but now regret their decision and are desperate to get rid of them like a turd that won't flush.

I'm hearing that turd will be sold on Friday to a consortium headed up by the chap who owns the fruit market ?

Has anyone else heard the rumour that Rovers haven't announced their shirt sponsor for next season because they don't have one?

Whilst the comedy raffle that saw them sponsored by a pub was a laugh, it was also supposedly quite lucrative. Their new marketing man has apparently received offers from companies interested in having their company name scribbled on the shirts, but the money being offered doesn't come close to the lucky dip of recent years.

Expect a national brand paying pennies for a season and back to the raffle next season.

Source? Bloke in a pub on Gloucester Road.

Well Ive heard its either Thatchers or Dyson both are in talks !...………. the information came from a very excited gentlemen who has close contacts with the club.

  9. His militancy cannot be disputed, no. However, much of history is about the outcome of people's actions more than the actions themselves.

People will look at how Mandela unified a nation that had been racist from top to bottom for generations and the means to which this was achieved are not given as much credence. I don't know that that is necessarily a bad thing. You can easily compare his militancy to that of the women's movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. At the end of the day they achieved equality for all and the means by which that was achieved is not relevant.

You find that most militant action comes after a long period of non violent attempts to change the world, when that is met with hostile oppression the only option is to 'fight back'

I think it's important to ensure that we understand the justification for violence before dismissing it as a means of protest. Revolution is a necessity in a world where politics and power often drift into the realms of authoritarianism and prejudiced beliefs dominating another people. Fighting back is often the last and only resort and without it oppressive regimes like apartheid, nazism, communism(of the modern European kind as opposed to the ideological Marxist writings) etc would have been able to stand strong for longer.

At what stage do you define justification and who makes that choice ?

Unfortunately in the world we live in the most awful acts of violence get noticed the most, I guess only the future decides that  :sad26:

  10. This is forum is usually a unhappy place ! I think this is because many people have absolutely nofaith or confidence in the people who run our club, they make mistake after mistake, and seem to take pleasure in taking as much enjoyment away from the supporters as possible yet some gullible souls trot along to their pointless meetings and believe their meaningless promises that are usually broken as soon as they are made, leading to another meeting and on and on it goes! with the board continuing to do exactly what they want, but giving the gullible the impression that they have been consulted ! on the sod situation, I want any City manager to do well ,because if the manager is doing well then so are the team, but I appreciate that it isa results business and results are the paramount thing for most supporters, I was firmly on the middle ground regarding sod, until this board began to get flooded with messages from the loathsome person who calls himself bristol city and others, who have no objectivity just a twisted personal hatred of sod and a obsession with hounding him out of his job, they also made llittle attempt to hide their glee at our poor results! the anti sod movement reached it's zenith when the ridiculous .ashton kate. made a fool of herself and went on local TV to grandly announce that she was with drawing her support and boycotting the club until the manager was removed! ( talk about over estimating your own importance ,! ) I just think that this board attracts to a e great extent ( with some exceptions ) the extreme pro and the extreme negative among citys support !

Its hard to agree or disagree with your post as I have no idea what point your trying to make.

  11. Unfortunately a dissertation is a research project. I've got no option but to be 'deep'!! Probably going to be making a lot of stuff up just to fill the ******* word count!

Do what I do use google thats how I found out what a "disseratation project" was, and dont worry about making stuff up your great at that :travolta:

  12. I have not. Should I?

My starting point was a book called 'The changing face of football' which is a social study in football around the period I'm looking at. It intrigued me to the point where I wanted to look at the hooligan/racist couplet and how that influenced the kick it out campaign.

I'm starting to come down on the side that the anti-racism agenda was initially instigated as a way in which to further control the working class football fan or hooligan in line with other measures like all seater stadia. That's quite a negative and cynical approach, but when you look at the timings of the whole thing it does seem that the anti-racism agenda was kickstarted long after the problem needed attention. It wasn't until football fans had actually stopped the en masse abuse, like that of Paul Canoville or Garth Crooks, that the agenda was really pushed. That's not to say that racism wasn't a problem by 1993, but it sure as hell wasn't on the same level as NF recruitment at Stamford Bridge or Elland road etc.

You are far to deep for me JT , I was brought up on Roy of the Rovers and Shoot magazine.

Now there may be the problem ;)
