Its about time Danny was congratulated. Last night showed how much passion and committment he has for our club. I was forced to watch the game on Sky as I could'nt get back for it.

Thorughout the game they showed Danny, he looked devastated when we were a goal down, but he made three (ok one of them was forced) EXCELLENT attacking substitutions. The pace we had on the pitch at the end was frightening and it was this that eventually unsettled Pool. Lita, Murray, Goodfellow, Roberts, Rougier, Carey, Hill even Doc and Tins have a burst of pace.

Danny's expression when we scored the winner was an amazing sight to see. He was as excited as anyone in the ground. In the dressing room after they interviewed him, he was buzzing and it was great seeing the players squirting orange juice and water at him. You could see the players are fond of him. I hope he is our manager next season whatever happens because hes a great bloke and has taken us on an exciting journey! Cheers Danny, heres to you!

The point is, though, he picked the team to start with. And I don't think anyone out there will feel it was the right one for the match.

His subsitutions got him out of jail, but only just. We must improve dramatically to win the final and we must attack from the first instance.

Hear hear, desperate substitutions do not a great Manager make. I have defended him many time's this season but he nearly screwed it up royally last night.

Great post Darling but unfortunately this forum is all about criticising the manager of a team one step away from promotion.
Be gentle with me Matty it's my first time after all.

Not moaning or nothing, but I think Roberts had a poor game before the goal and Wilson should have brought Lita on in place of him. Like I said though, not complaining.

I work in Portsmouth and couldn't get the time off to make it last night - and as I was walking toward the Bar in Southsea where I was to watch the game, SMS gave the line up and i was very disappointed! we needed to make a positive statement to hartlepool early, and neither the lineup nor the way we played did that!

HOWEVER

I don't think it's criticising as such - more a statement of fact.

Under Wilson, when we're attacking we're bloody dangerous. Last night proved that. If we hadn't been so defensive this season (e.g. Docherty-Burnell for flipping ages) then maybe we wouldn't be getting excited about the 30th, because the job would have been done by now

Sorry I pressed a wrong button!!!!!!

I was going on to say:-

HOWEVER - it all came right in the end!! And if we jump the final hurdle a week on Sunday then I'm convinced Danny will be the man to keep us up! I'm sure we won't be hearin such quotes like "i don't know what to do" and " i need help" like we had from a certain Mr Ward!!!

Here's a question.

When we've played an attacking formation for most of the game (regardless of home or away) what's our win ratio?

And

When we've played a defensive formation for most of the game (regardless of home or away) what's our win ratio?

That's probably tough to figure out, but does anyone have any ideas?

As I remember we won, off to Cardiff, great day out , many more planned for next season. Strikes me that many of you that chose to complain about Wilson have wildly varied starting line ups anyway, so appears only the dislike for Wilson unites you. Would guess from that that it's more to do with personality than team selection and tactics as logically you can't all be right...

I think it's more to do with the fans lack of football knowledge, childishness and boredom.

Well I would think that it's more down to being sick of our team constantly under-achieving.

(and I am pro-Wilson too before you ask)

Well obviously fans are going to vary opinion from one to the other, that's obvious. Everyone has their personal favourites and players they believe should always be in, no matter who bad they are. The problem is so does Wilson.

Wilson has got away with last minute victories so often that a lot of the time no-one questions why did it take so long?

If we hadn't scored those last minute goals (and I know it's hypothetical, so I won't go on about it), we would still be moaning about his lack of tactical knowledge, obession with Peacock, etc.

It's no secret that all football fans love the Kevin Keegan approach, it's silly but also funny to read, some people need to grow up and admit that others (Danny Wilson etc) know better. If it wasn't for Wilson you could be where Bristol Rovers are now, you never know, your club was a mess before he stepped in.

I will free admit that Wilson knows much wore about football than I do. He knows much more about tactics, coaching and the transfer market than I do, or than most people on this forum ever will. But he is not perfect, and he will make the odd mistake - he is a young manager, and in a sense is still learning.

Why shouldn't we question these mistakes? So many people are infuriated with his persistence with Peacock, and you'd have to admit, that most people on this forum are a better judge of Peacock's ability than you. The whole point of this forum basically is to question his tactics, line ups, etc., and personally I believe Wilson has made far too many mystifing substitutions and ineffective signings for me to put that much trust in him.

That's true enough, but I doubt we'd have free fallen to the extent that Rovers have....

After the disaster that was Tony Pulis most managers would have been able to win the fans over, so DW didn't exactly have his work cut out in that respect. He did however, scrap the long ball game and reintroduce a slick passing style that won him even more plaudits. This season though does not seem to have been his finest hour, if it wasn't for the other teams being so bad we probably wouldn't have made the playoffs this year. To be honest I can't really see where it's gone wrong but then I'm not paid a handsome wage to do so. If we get promoted DW may have bought himself another years backing from the fans, but anything else could, and probably would, be seen as a disaster (at least from a supporters point of view). The squad would have to be culled to patch up our finances (8 players out of contact at season end) and the bad results that would doubtless follow may see the start of Wilson out chants on the terrace, something he has avoided thus far. Lose the backing of the fans, and quite often the boards backing will follow suit....

But that's just my thoughts.....

:dunno:

Just worry when underachieving equates to reaching play-off final, or possibly 2nd in premiership, champions league semi final etc if you're Ranieri, little difference except in his case fans stuck by him, chairman is unrealistic. Personally wonder how long such a competant manager will accept this ongoing carping from such ungrateful self contradicting fans.

I follow both Bristol clubs and Swindon Town more than any other club apart from Reading, and I can safely say I've never disagreed with Danny Wilson, I agree with a lot of what he says and a lot of what he does, but you Bristol City fans only ever try and find something to moan at, even if you won every single game you would still be moaning, even if you had Sir Alex as manager you would still be moaning. I used to read this board as a guest every now and again and it was the same then. Get real.

I can see what you're trying to say with this, but for Bristol City division 2 is underachieving whether we made the play off final or not. The money we have been given by our board this season dwarves most, if not all, the other teams in this division. We're constantly being told that we have the set up, including the wage structure, of a 1st division club and that this is unsustainable beyond this season should we still be languishing in division 2. If this happens and we lose half the first team squad, we won't have the chance to take promotion so easily next season. The teams division 2 will gain next year are also stronger than the ones it will lose and that is another obstacle in our way.

DW has had vey little 'carping' from the fans so far during his tenure, infact cheers of one DW, walking in a DW wonderland etc can be heard. As I have already said, I'm pro-Wilson and believe he is the man to lead us into the promised land, however I like to think I can see both sides of the argument over his tenure.

Edit: spoolling mysteaks!
