marmite
What is it with this council of ours, where is the foreward thinking and vision? How many more opportunities will be lost by their incompetence? Give the city back to its people instead of heeding minority groups all the time. Lets get the stadium built and with it a concert arena and decent transport links instead of listening to moaning NIMBYS who are quite happy to do their business in someone else's backyard. Lets have the supertram scrapped and replaced with an overhead monorail system that gets public transport off the clogged roads, and lets have public transport on the dissused railway lines instead of just a few cyclists who are lucky enough to be fit and able to ride. Lets build a barrage at Avonmouth and keep the Avon at full water so that boats can show off the Suspension Bridge to visitors to our City. Lets build a cruise terminal at Portbury/Avonmouth and bring worldwide visitors to see our City up the River Avon right into the City Centre.Lets properly develop Bristol (International) Airport. All this has been sugested before but of course none of it will happen because the people running this City wont take the brave decisions ever. If all this happened then Bristol would be able to attract more business money, more investment, and of course, better players for our beloved football team. What a pity Brunel isn't alive today, although, even he would despair at this bunch running the council.

Mr Mosquito
I think we need to ask the question? how many of our so say councillors are actually bristolians!!!! According to wikipedia, the leader of the Lib Dems - Barbara Janke - was born in Liverpool. She would thus have no real interest in Bristol and this football club as - like an enemy alien secret agent - she's been parachuted in to cause chaos. You only have to look at the University to see what Bristol could achieve.
Fiale
What a pity Brunel isn't alive today, although, even he would despair at this bunch running the council. You kidding - you think currently people in Clifton would allow the Suspension bridge to be built. Avon gorge's views and natural beauty ruined by a metal monstrosity, added traffic, noise and pollution. Bristol CC are not interested in £100's millions of free private investment, they prefer to waste taxes on PFIs, after all paying millions of our money to private companies whether the actual asset continues to work / exists is as good a way to waste the public monies as any (remember thats what they exists for - to take and spend our money whether we agree or not). Matty-H
Meanwhile Rotherham come out of the blue tonight and announce plans for a new stadium and give the opening date. Easy for some. Slave to the rhythm
Meanwhile Rotherham come out of the blue tonight and announce plans for a new stadium and give the opening date. Easy for some. Seemingly impossible in this city full of narrow minded, short sighted, tree hugging, agenda filled tosspots I expect Rotherham has a proper, old-fashioned, Labour council which understands the needs of the local residents. Unlike Bristol which has a Lib-Dem council full of non-Bristolians who just want somewhere nice to buy their houmous on a Saturday morning! WhistleHappy
In the last local elections just over 30,500 postal voters were registered in Bristol... our Stadium petition very nearly equals that number at the moment ...... 29,961 Thats A Heck Of A Lot Of Potential Votes To Win or Lose come the next local elections 30,000 + = to all the postal electorate in the city! screech
That's a cracking point about Brunel. Unfortunately it is bang on accurate, this bunch of clowns in charge would have shown him the door a long time ago, citing a disruption to seagull nesting as a good reason to prohibit a bridge spanning the cliffs. This country is a joke when it puts a few people first before the good of the many. In these economic times you would think they'd see that all their christmas's had come at once when a private investor wants to put his hands in his own pocket to regenerate an area. Not this council, what a laughing stock they are.
