Jimmy Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 This part timer stuf is beginning to annoy me now. The fact that another post has appeared with the title has probably already {understandably} annoyed a number of you. Here is my situation; I'm a student at Gloucester University coming to the end of my first year. I rarely get back to Bristol as i dont drive and do not wish to pay £14 for a train ticket. I havent been to any City game this season, however i had a season ticket a few years ago (the year we were in division 1) and attended every game even when we being outplayed and relegation was a formality, the ticket was on offer - around £25 for the junior i was then. I regularly attended after this but as the cost had gone from £25 for a season ticket to £16 a game my attendence understandably dropped. If you are going to take games attended as an indicator of what a part time fan is the i am guilty as charged. But the term 'part timer' offends me very much!! I guarantee you that my heart is in this club as much as any of you. Ive shed tears on a number of bad occasions and on the flip side jumped for joy during the good. And yet i technically fall into the part timer catergory. It is virtually impossible to pigeon hole fans of football and sport in general. Is the man/woman who buys a season ticket every year out of their high wage packet more loyal to the club, or a better supporter? Certainly they are putting more into the club, but that doesnt mean they are more loyal to Bristol City football club. I'm Bristol City through and through - ive supported them since i understood what football was, ive bought countless shirts and felt the heart ache and pain at every disappointing turn (which lets be fair - there have been more bad than good!) What in the hell gives other fans the right to label people like me 'part timers'? Absoloutely nothing. Accept the fact that everybodies situation is different. Are the people who travel from further afield to watch games more loyal than those who live next door to the ground - not necessarily. Is the fact that some people cannot afford to attend games (not talking about me now - people financially worse off than myself) mean they are any less of a fan - certainly not. I understand the annoyance in people who attend big games but dont follow the club throughout the season, that, to an extent, annoys me as well. But at the end of the day the more people that attend any game that the club benefits financailly from the better. Everyones situation is different, the sooner those of you who seem so keen to proove your loyalty to this club by running down others realise this the better.
Guest Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 I get to most home games if you want a lift anytime p.m me; no worries no pressure; whenever
Guest KingswoodRed Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Well said, but there will always be fans that will put this loyalty to the test. The fact that one of those has 'bored' in his nick just about sums it up.
bcfcrobin Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Perfect! What is wrong with a part timer? they are bringing in money for the club and they are supporting the team, would you rather the 700 people who went to hartlepool to just go for the final or would you rathe have 40,000! In my opinion the people who mention part timers should get a life, no one deserves a ticket more than anyone else! So what if you went to hartlepoool, its your choice, if people want to go to the millennium for the first football match of there lifes, why complain?
elko Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 I don't mind part-timers all that much. Money, family, location are just three reasons why a person may not be able to make many/any games. I just hate people that are going to the PO Final and are not city fans at all! One 'friend' is going. The only other City match he has been to is the LDV Final last year. :@ :@ :@ If I see him there and City lose (heaven forbid) I will literally kill him. If we win I will make him get a season ticket.
Guest december 1963 Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Jimmy - you aren't a part timer. Part timer is probably something which refers to whether City are in your heart, not whether you've been to x number of games. If City are in your heart you're a full timer
RedM Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 Jimmy - you aren't a part timer. Part timer is probably something which refers to whether City are in your heart, not whether you've been to x number of games. If City are in your heart you're a full timer That's just about it really. A 'part timer' doesn't show any interest in the club, players etc, until there is a 'big' game when they turn up and wonder when we sold bob taylor and think Keith Welch has changed a bit. If you listen out for results and it still matters to you when we win or loose then you are no part timer. Everyone has a time in their lives when other things will have to come before football. Families, jobs, money. I was a 'never miss a match home or away' supporter for years, then through the kids, money and job reasons I was inable to attend many matches. Happily now I am again finding myself able to afford the time and money to watch again through a season ticket. You can still be a fan even though you can't attend matches. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.
elko Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 they turn up and wonder when we sold bob taylor and think Keith Welch has changed a bit. I have literally soiled my pants due to your unrivalled wittiness. Whats the odds I'll hear that Sunday?
Guest rednick_74 Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 i dont like the glory hunters bit either.. since i moved to taunton and i cant get to as many games as i would like to,other commitments and things. but ive supported city for about 20 years through good times and bad.(mainly bad) if i wanted to be a glory hunter id support arsenal or man u. so i think anyone who loves city (regular match goers or not) should grab a ticket and enjoy the day..
Guest wolverhampton cider ed Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 AAAAAAAAAAAGGGHHH fell asleep I havent missed all the tickets have I oh only a nightmare
Guest dez_gimred Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 it isnt how many games you go to...but the effort you put into attending whatever games you can... someone with bags of cash who lives in bristol and goes to every game isnt more of a supporter than someone in the USA who goes to one a season .. thats my view anyway
Guest Geesus the City fan Posted May 23, 2004 Posted May 23, 2004 December 1963 hits the nail on the head, even if your not at the game and nowhere near a radio until 4.45 but you asap look for the City score and feel any kind of emotion at the outcome then your a FT fan. When youve been on this planet as long as we (1970) have then its inevitable that your going to miss a few games/seasons isnt it? Funny moment one home game this season, leaving the Dolman by the ee exit and hearing east east eastenders coming from the lads then for someone to say yea but we are the original eastenders made me smurk hmmm Joe Royle, Gerry Gow hmmm footy in the park jumpers as goal posts hmm hmm (soz too much red wine to ease the no ticket yet nervous perhaps?)
