Gerry Gows' Tash Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Any recommenadtions - for a quiet pint before/after the game with likeminded City fans - not for a punchup ?
Guest Spike Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Well in the centre of cardiff there is always going to be Cardiff City fans looking for fights and probably some Brighton fans trying to find a quiet spot just like you are. My gf has live here (Cardiff) all her life and I've lived here the past 12 years and the bottom line is if you don't support Cardiff and you wear another teams shirt your going to be called some pretty harsh names and maybe have some of the "Soul crew" look to pick a fight with you. It was only a couple of months back I was walking through cardiff with my Bristol city shirt on that i heard two kids (around 17-18) call me a ######ing ##** just because I had it on. If you want to have a nice drink it may be worth driving to newport before the game and leaving your car there and getting the bus and then after the match going back to newport for a drink (although i don't know if it will be any better there) I'll probably just come straight back home and have a drink in my house with my gf.

Walk stright past the Weatherspoons on your right & O'Neills on your left. At the end of the road turn left and carry on walking past Mcdonalds until you come to a little courtyard on your right. In the courtyard you'll find a nice boozer which wasnt too busy and had a cracking atmosphere last year. Probably 10 mins walk to the stadium.
Tipps Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 I would advise avoiding The Prince Of Wales pub, this is the one that went up BIG STYLE after last years game. My guess would be that they won't be letting that happen again!!
Red Finesse Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Morgan's Landing, along side the river Taff opposite the stadium! thats where i'll be! swearing my alligance to my surname!
gazareth Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 I'd advise going a bit further away from the stadium and (dare I say it) into the "student village". There's a good number of pubs around, I recommned the Blackweir tavern on North Road. It's about 20-30 mins walk from the stadium, but it's very nice, with real ale and a beer garden. In the city centre then the city arms is pretty good, and if you want cheap then try the Central Bar off Queens Street (Sainsburys end). Stay clear of the 2 main wetherspoons in town (Prince of Wales/Gatekeeper), thats where most of the trouble is likely to happen. The Old Monk is quite nice too.
dazza247 Posted May 24, 2004 Posted May 24, 2004 Blackweir Tavern's pretty awesome..was my regular for a few months while at uni!! Also the Scream pubs are always a good bet-full of students rather than locals(depends which you prefer I suppose)!! Not too sure about the City centre though-really depends how they try to police it. Apparently for the FA Cup Final it was all kinda sectioned off to Millwall areas and Manure areas where they try to keep like-minded fans in certain areas(if that makes sense). Cardiff's generally quite a friendly place although too Bristol City Supporters I'm not so sure!!
