westonred Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 When do we all think that the Board will grow a back bone and sack Keef ? We are now as good as in the bottom 3, our crowds are disappearing more and more every week. The standard of football is terrible the management and coaches seem clueless and have lost the support of the fans even die hard Millen supporters have had enough and are starting to admit he is out of his depth and clueless We cannot blame the players they are playing under no leadership and direction in any other team in the championship Nicky Maynard (argubily the best striker outside the prem) would have 6 or 7 goals by now because they would play to the NM's strengths and support him. We leave him isolated up front on his own chasing lost causes no wonder the guys looks so unhappy on the pitch at the moment. I hope the board act quickly and there's an announcement tomorrow but i can honestly see it coming if we lose away to Leeds and then again at home to Hull
South Bristol Red Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 When do we all think that the Board will grow a back bone and sack Keef ? when you cough up the money to pay his contract off!!
SnozRobin Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 It won't be any time soon, because the board are as much to blame as he is and that would be like admitting it.
westonred Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 when you cough up the money to pay his contract off!! Do you know i wish i was in a position to do that. Perhaps we should have taken the £8m for Nicky Maynard which would have given us the funds to pay up Millen his backroom staff and all the players we are trying to get rid of , then get in a new manager in and give him the rest of the cash to buy some new players.
CiderHider Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 GRR this is why the teams struggles so much at AG, far to much expectancy on them, no wonder they prefer to play away
Modestant Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 GRR this is why the teams struggles so much at AG, far to much expectancy on them, no wonder they prefer to play away Yeah you're right - we shouldn't be expecting more than 0 goals, 3 defeats out of 4 home games (all comps). The club build the excitement and expectation themselves, selling the season ticket adverts with ''promotion push'' statements. Now we're stuck with useless, wobbling moron in charge, which is where the problem lies. We have a good Championship squad - I genuinely believe that - but we have got a manager who simply isn't able to manage them.
maxjak Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 GRR this is why the teams struggles so much at AG, far to much expectancy on them, no wonder they prefer to play away How dare supporters who have forked out their hard earned wages for Season Tickets voice their discontentment...what do you think this is.................a democracy?

I agree, we do have a good squad of players with good strikers, but waiting for the other side to score then bring them on is not giving us a chance to win the game.
Snufflelufagus Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 Forget Leeds away that game won't make a difference to keiths destiny either way. If we don't win 1 of the next two home games then he has to go.

We did we get offered £8 million for Maynard? And if Maynard did not want to go to that club it would not matter how much they offer.
Guest Ashton Kate Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 I watched Millen yesterday as I do every game and the bloke gives no direction to his players and no motivation. What we lack at the moment is a leader on the pitch, bring back Carey I say if he is good enough for the bench he is good enough to play. I look forward to the Leeds away game and hope that we can pull off the win but after yesterday I seriously doubt it. Get used to going back to League 1 grounds cos that is where we are heading I am sad to say. I have seen nothing to convince me otherwise.

The board have backed him and aren't going to make a quick decision, like it or not, they are going to give him a number of games from the start of the season to get the team together and start performing. That said, things are starting to look ominous

That said, things are starting to look ominous Inclined to agree in principle though I think they will leave it much longer than that, at least until after Christmas. I am convinced survival is the only aim this season so that if we are out of the bottom 3 at critical points (of which post the Christmas/New Year fixtures tends to be one) Keith will be safe. Steve has after all nailed his colours to the mast as far as Keith goes and Colin will continue to need him as a human shield as he implements his austerity policy, so I think they will stick with him as long and as late as possible. Getting a credible experienced man to take over anyway with no money to spend will be difficult, another factor in Keith's favour I think. I also remain convinced that the assumption is that everything will be hunky dory once contracts run out, though that ignores the fact that it is the players Keith wants to keep who have put us in the bottom 3 rather than the likes of Hunt, Stewart, Cisse etc.. I don't think Keith should kid himself either that he will suddenly have money to spend once they are gone. The board are hardly likely to slash the budget only to immediately increase it again. In short I suspect we are stuck with Keith and he is stuck with pretty much whatever he has once the unwanted players are gone.

The thing is, there is no doubt, he'd be able to bring in better quality of players (with higher wages) when the deadwood has been shipped out, if however he last that long is another question. Personally despite a number of people rightly/wrongly wanting Millen out, I'm yet to see a credible replacement suggested. People suggest the likes of Billy Jones/David Jones, but personally wouldn't want either of them, Billy Jones is a complete and utter moaning idiot, Dave Jones would want silly money in wages and on players, plus you just need to look at the reasons why Cardiff constantly flopped (see Danny Wilson reign at City and drinking culture) Curbishley obviously has his 72 flats in various parts of Bristol, but is still a unrealistic option People are hoping for the likes of Paul Tisdale, but he's already turned down jobs that could be deemed as better options than us, likewise Sean O'Driscoll Lee Clark would be a great option, but is he going to leave a decent job like Huddersfield? Unlikely I'd love to hear a great suggestion, but so far it's just people moaning without any loan term aims/viewpoint on how problems would be addressed.
Riaz Posted September 11, 2011 Posted September 11, 2011 GRR this is why the teams struggles so much at AG, far to much expectancy on them, no wonder they prefer to play away Thats the funny thing about it - expectancy was extremely low at the beginning of the season.....

The board have backed him and aren't going to make a quick decision, like it or not, they are going to give him a number of games from the start of the season to get the team together and start performing. That said, things are starting to look ominous For my money things looked pretty ominous a year ago - but the Board have stuck with a rookie manager who hasn't cut it. So like chinapig I think you are right Donald. Or rather I fear you are right. It was surely essential that City produced a performance yesterday after the Publicity surrounding the £5 tickets. Win, lose or draw the expectation must have been that the side would really go for it and set out to impress. In the entertainment business you are often only as good as your last performance...it's a harsh world. It may be reasonable - if cynical - to assume that the devoted faithful will turn up week in week out...and in the case of the ST holders to count them whether they turn up or not...but that won't wash for the floating supporter. It seems very risky to stick with a chap so incapable of pulling crowds through the door or delivering entertainment when they get there. He's shown - to my kind - no sign of getting any better. Even his most devoted advocates on here have started to express some doubts. Surely the Board should be seeking to build excitement around the club ahead of the stadium build...not sleepwalking into a relegation scrap.

I think the question of whether Millen should go is a very different one to who should replace him. At the moment we have a boss who's not doing the business. He has his supporters - or had - and he has his critics. I've been a sceptic from day one and I now want him out. In arguing for that I don't think I have to offer an alternative. He's simply not good enough IMO. Once he's gone the alternative is of course the issue. Who that is entirely depends on the club's long term strategy. When Coppell was appointed we were led to believe that he was here to replicate something of what he had done at Reading - building a side for a promotion push whilst the club built off the field through the development of the new stadium. That all made sense. He'd been there and done it and had all the medals. My scepticism at KM's appointment was largely founded on his having none of the relevant experience to deliver that strategy. In truth I have no idea what our strategy is at the moment. If it remains as it was when Coppell arrived we need a manager of experience and substance to deliver. If we are holding on...and possibly going down...a manager with something to prove might be the man. I'd hope we were looking for the former.

Yes what a terrible appointment Billy Davies would be, he got Preston to the play off final, Derby promoted and Forest to the play offs. I mean thats pretty crap really. He may moan about the sun not shining brightly enough but he's a good football manager and that's what counts when you are a football manager. If you want popular football managers then Keiths your man. Honestly, If that doesn't meet great suggestion material then I can only assume we have Mourinho, Ferguson, Guardiola or Wenger ready to sign any minute. Tell me, what is shit about Davies ability to manage in the championship, and please without mentioning he moans a bit, because personally with a record like that I wouldn't care one tiny little bit. Sorry edit. I stupidly forgot to add he got Preston to another play off position, that's surely marked him down even more.
Mr Mosquito Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 I agree, we do have a good squad of players with good strikers, but waiting for the other side to score then bring them on is not giving us a chance to win the game. Reading the comments on this forum about Keith Millen over the past few weeks I reckon he'll soon be out of a job over this. Not scoring a goal after 3 home league games and being generally outplayed at home as well is shit. Given the calibre of players now at this club the start to this season is the worst I can ever remember. I remember watching our games at the start of our season in the old 4th Division and I'd say that our start to this season is far worse than that because back in 1982 we had mainly inexperienced lads in our side. Terry Cooper was a revelation when he took over as manager - is there a modern day Terry Cooperesque BCFC Massiah out there that can rescue our season ?????!!!!!
Dorset_Cider Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 GRR this is why the teams struggles so much at AG, far to much expectancy on them, no wonder they prefer to play away Sorry, very confused by your comments............. What can be better than home advantage and a desire to win games at home Life on the road and results on the road equally important but how can you imply that playing at home and the reasonable expectations of home fans watching their team play at home/wanting a win be a disadvantage? Far too easy....... poor little loves Perhaps they would like my shit job.......... and all the unreasonable expectations that my bosses place on me?

That was a superb reply - especially......"Perhaps they would like my shit job.......... and all the unreasonable expectations that my bosses place on me?" In comparison, footballers certainly live a charmed life these days compared to a great many of the rest of us struggling to manage on shit wages.

The bloke has proven championship quality. The question that should be asked is if Millen was sacked would Davies be interested. Makes me chuckle how Davies isn't good enough for us yet would probably be a contender for any other championship club should there be a vacancy. In saying that I'd also take Jones, Tisdale, O'Driscoll, my nans cats dog, Sue next door or any other over Millen as it stands. Too far perhaps?

Sue may be ageing but she's got a proven track record of keeping clean sheets and regularly brings home the bacon. The cat on the other hand is more high risk. Prone to mood swings and undoubtedly erratic, though would certainly instill some pace and teach the boys a thing or two about getting off the ground. However the exit from his last role was a but fishy. Perhaps offer him a player-manager deal... we could use another winger to push for the playoffs!
