This is good news, there should definitely be a statue and I hope they manage to get it sorted.

I still think Bristol Airport should have been renamed Adge Cutler International!

being a Nailsea boy myself, it would be a great boost to the town, anxious to know where they'd put it though.

we very recently did a bronze statue of a random glasswork worker from the 18th century which doesn't seem very interesting, but it has been quite popular so credit to the council.

A statue of Adge though will get people excited, i walk past his gravestone at Christ Church enough times

Should be put outside the Royal Oak where they recorded their first album ( my dad was in the audience !!)

That would be the best place. Not only did Adge play and record there he drank there as well.

The only other spot I can think of would be in Crown Glass Square.

As a local resident to the roundabout by the Severn Bridge where he met his unfortunate demise on the night of 5 May 1974 I have often thought about getting a tree planted and a plaque of somekind as a memorial to him........an apple tree would be appropiate or a Blackthorn

As 2014 will be 40th aniversary of that fateful night I may pick this up again and see if Chepstow local council are in agreement

Below taken from sleeve notes of that legendary album

And 2nd November, 1966, was a night of entertainment to remember in Nailsea. For a studio recording you can reckon on allowing thirty minutes or more until the audience warms up and you begin to feel atmosphere. For a Somerset pub recording it took thirty seconds. The audience were a cross-section of cider-quaffing Wurzel-lovers from every corner of Somerset; from Weston Zoyland to Monkton Combe. Nailsea's oldest inhabitant, wearing a top-hat for such a special occasion, was flanked by long-haired youths and mini-skirted girls.

At first the broadcasting men and journalists from rival stations and newspapers eyed each other somewhat coldly: the locals wondered if they should be on their Sunday-best behaviour with 'them thar record men from Lunnon in town'. By nine o'clock the journalists and television-men were clinking glasses like old friends as the TV cameras whirred; by 9:30 the locals were proving that not all the best voices are t'other side of the new Severn Bridge. At ten o'clock we sent out for fresh supplies of cider and beer and the landlord's wife was dancing a Highland fling with Adge; the cameramen complained that the room was too smokey for photographs - then lit up fresh cigarettes. At 10:30 the Wurzels did a third encore of "Drink U Thy Zider" and the Nailsea Mixed Voice Choir raised the rafters on the chorus

I grew up in a village on the edge of the Chew Valley, a guy lived in the village (and still does) called Brain Walker, he's a very talented artist, does some Kids Comics and other art, is friends with Acker Bilk, he also plays the sousaphone.... and did so many times with the Wurzels while Adge was alive.

Just thought I'd say......

...went there a few years ago, was very difficult to find, & looked rather neglected (just a small inlaid stone -the inscription was weathered & difficult to read).

Surprised to see there were no floral tributes there as it was just a couple of days after an aniversary of his death.. it was quite sad really tbh.

Went into the Royal Oak for a pint to toast his memory, expected to find some memorabillia etc on display or at least 'something' but no sadly there was nothing Adge or Wurzel related in the place.

Anyway anyone looking for his stone in the churchyard - look towards the end of the stone wall (churchside of wall) that runs along the main road (its quite near a bustop).

Statue would be a great idea.

I've often thought an Adge Cutler/Wurzels 'theme type pub/cafe/venue would do well if located somewhere appropriate - playing Wurzel stuff, furnished Wurzel style & with memorabillia on show... would do very well in our City.. (a good marketing opportunity business idea for someone maybe? ... could sell cd's , posters, that kind of thing. I'm sure fans from around the country would visit such a place if one existed..

Planet Wurzelhood ??

Its a fair point. Does Nailsea actually have a centre? a heart? a soul? if ever a boring dormitory town with thousands of regimented boxes needed an uplift this was its calling and Adge Cutler calling at that, how apt, how on the moment.

Considering i am here and then not here I am clearly out of touch so could somebody please advise if the man has passed on? Did he pass on years ago? or is he alive and kicking?

What a great idea regardless. Good to see some villages getting on with the job of serving their residents rather than closing youth hostels/clubs and diverting cash for worthless causes outside their remit.

He died in a car crash back in the early 70's I believe

Having lived in Nausea myself (and that was a purposeful spelling mistake), this is great news for the town.

Before this, the only exciting thing that ever happened in the town was getting on the train to leave.
