PFree Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Sorry to raise this.......but if he intended to sign, surely news would have broken by now....it's all very quiet, isn't it...
BCFC Jordan Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Yep he's going for free. I've accepted that for a while now.
PFree Posted September 23, 2011 Author Posted September 23, 2011 I got sad when I gambled £10 on a horse and lost, for the club to have gambled so many £millions on Maynard when we are so heavily in debt already feels a little strange but in some senses really sad...
notsobigfatdave Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 This topic has been done to death so lets end it here. Maynard as we all know wants Premier League Football. He is not going to sign for City IMO until the board replace Millen with a manager who can provide that and the funds to achieve it wihin a couple of seasons. City is a Play thing for Landsdown and Sexton, the Stadium will be the goose that lays the golden egg. Saying that he has to hit the 20 + goals a season mark to interest any Premier League Clubs and good performances against the favorites to go up, Spammers, Saints, Perhaps even Brighton will put him in the shopping trolley and will be his best chance of Premier League Football before his career ends. I suspect he will run down his contract until he is a free and if no Premier League Club comes in for him then his Agent will either renegotiate with City or look for another Championship club with abmition and potential.
screech Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Sorry to raise this.......but if he intended to sign, surely news would have broken by now....it's all very quiet, isn't it... You're right of course but, be prepared for a few Nicky Maynard FC fans to come out in support of him. Nicky Maynard FC was established in April 2011, the following has grown over the summer and reached it's peak when the Bristol City board collectively rejected an incredible bid from Leicester City of around £5.5m. Nicky Maynard has continued to be played at Bristol City despite calls of third party ownership from clued up BCFC fans, they say Nicky Maynard is owned by the Nicky Maynard fan club, not Bristol City, scores of Nicky Maynard fans turn up and support Nicky in his one man crusade in the championship. "Nicky Maynard is bigger than BCFC, FACT" said one. The Bristol City board have made no further comment, since stupidly turning down a lottery win from their friends at Leicester. Meanwhile Nicky Maynard says "he's happy here, and um that contract thingy must have got lost in the post"
chinapig Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 We got tough and gave him a 2 week deadline. It expired about 2 weeks ago.
DOLMANDAN Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Blimey go carefull Ziderhead i got called a idiot for suggesting such a thing
CiderHider Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Should be dropped imo. Yeah, that'll learn em.
Mr Gow Posted September 23, 2011 Posted September 23, 2011 Worst decsion this club have made since not putting a sell on clause in Andy Coles contract Then there was the Rossinior cock up
Rob k Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Would be a good idea to drop our best player I agree, Here's a thought, how about we play to his strengths and get him some support up front . The idea that some fans have that he's not putting in any effort is a joke. If your going to play one up front then Maynard ain't your man, but I could have told you that weeks ago, blame the manager for making our mist effective player ineffective.
Guest del ete Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Id drop him too, holding the club to ransom! no-one is bigger than the club.
Frenchay Red Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I also think he should be "rested". We have not scored at home and need a change up front. I have always wondered just what all the Maynard mania was about. Don't get me wrong he has scored some fantastic goals, quite often out of nothing, but that IMO sums him up really. He is a scorer of good/great goals but not necessarily a good/great goal scorer. I know the service hasn't been there this season, but to me he doesn't look that sharp and is certainly slower to react to a chance than Pitman would be. Pitman I believe has more to offer and has a better eye for a half chance should it come his way than Maynard has. Given our current lack of success in front of goal we have little to lose by playing Pitman (preferably with Stead) and leaving Maynard out for a couple of games.
SC_Red Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Worst decsion this club have made since not putting a sell on clause in Andy Coles contract Then there was the Rossinior cock up what decision? Maynard didnt want to go to another championship club so there would of been no point accepting a bid from one.
Pederho ll Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 He hasn't looked our best player this season. He looks just asbad and disinterested as the rest. He's had plenty of chances and should have had at least three more goals. Two pen misses and that woeful effort at Doncaster when 1on1 with the keeper. Top strikers take there chances when presented. Playing with more support wouldn't of made any difference if he can't take bread and butter chances why is everyone else to blame? Nicky looks a bit sulky to me at the moment and needs to man up and get on with it and knuckle down. If he going to tout himself as the best striker in the league he needs to start walking the walk to back up the talk. Spot on!
CodeRed Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 It shows how naive Sexstone was, he seemed to think that once Maynard remained at AG past the deadline it was good news, all this : we don't want to sell our best players and going forward he's going to sign a new deal and score the goals that gets us promotion No Colin it was BAD news - the failure to sell, the failure to manage the situation in BCFC's best interests has meant we lost £3M - £5M (depending on your valuation) and the opportunity to spend some of that cash on the team. We're left with a disaffected player, who is losing form, and who''s interest will diminish once he signs a pre-contract in January with ----------------------------- (insert the mediocre PL club of your choice) . And no money. ALL the top clubs sell any player who won't sign a new deal with 1 year left (eg Arsenal/Nasri) and get the best deal, get a replacement with the cash and move on. Before anyone says NM wouldn have turned down Leicester - Sexstone should have developed a strategy & stuck to it, it was clear he wasn't going to sign - ever . We should - if necessary - have employed an agent to approach likely PL clubs/top champ clubs (West Ham were interested) and brokered the best deal for BCFC before it was too late - even if we had to pay £250K to the agent to get it done. CR

CR An interesting take. For what it's worth my view is that the club thought they would look strong by hanging on to Maynard and get the admiration and gratitude of the fans and ended up looking weak, in the sense that they are letting him run the show, and have not impressed the fans at all. After his strength in his management of the stadium issues I am surprised to see Colin being so weak in effectively telling a player he is bigger than the club.
Mr Gow Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 what decision? Maynard didnt want to go to another championship club so there would of been no point accepting a bid from one. To be honest i hadnt heared this before SC Red, i thought it was our lot rejecting the bids and not the player himself, sorry if i got it wrong
Im_over_ere Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 NM says that he wants to sign, but now the transfer window has closed he still has yet to. IMO City should realize that he is not going to sign and now offer him up for loan with the view to sell. That would free up wages, guarantee that he doesn't go for free and allow City to play strikers who will be at the club after NM has gone.
Atlanta_Red Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 The silver lining is that the club have not been paying double his current wages all this time. His performances have been mediocre and probably don't justify whatever inflated terms he was offered.
