tigerroar Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Not sure how much interest there is but I can keep you up to date on his progress if you like. He played his second game for us yesterday at Stalybridge Celtic and was superb again. He conceded two but both were in the top corners and he couldn't have stopped either. He also made a great save deep into injury time to keep our point in a 2-2 draw.
tigerroar Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 He's six feet tall according to your site, but he doesn't look it. It's his lack of a head that concerns me though.

Dollymarie Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 What?, how old is he?, good up and coming player FFS. I think the phrase here is whoooooooosh!
Redcliffe 78 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 I think the phrase here is whoooooooosh! Good save with no head i agree, Sorry.

Bristolcityyatton Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 He is 6"1. same height as basso....
Guest Black Rat Lover_89 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 same height as basso.... basso was like a frigin cat sumtimes tho flying around the goal mouth! is lewis carey as agile as the basso?! CTID!
Chivs Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 He's six feet tall according to your site, but he doesn't look it. It's his lack of a head that concerns me though. How does the ref deal with a headless player? If he needs to book him, how does he ask for his name? Surely, there's some rule that says you must wear shin pads and have a head? Anyway, keep up the reports. Very appreciated!
tigerroar Posted September 28, 2011 Author Posted September 28, 2011 I feel I should be posting this somewhere else because you have bigger fish to fry right now but here is Lewis in action on Saturday -
Monkeh Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 good to see keep us up to date please we need positive things here at the moment
Red-Robbo Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Great! Stick Gerken in goal and put Lewis on the bench. James can stay back in Devon and study his etchings.
Guest BONDIE Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Great! Stick Gerken in goal and put Lewis on the bench. James can stay back in Devon and study his etchings. Epic idea!
Tom Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 Got a hell of a kick on him, he gets an assist for the first goal (at least I'd credit him with it). Their first was unstoppable, no closing down, similar to their second. Cracking save at the death also. Good prospect!
tigerroar Posted October 22, 2011 Author Posted October 22, 2011 A bit of an update, Lewis is doing really well and has three clean sheets in six games. He's just signed for another month too, we'll need him for the FA Cup! Here's an interview we did with him after todays 4-0 win against Blyth Spartans -

Here's an interview we did with him after todays 4-0 win against Blyth Spartans - Great interview the lad speaks well, Anybody lnow where we picked him up from as doesn't sound a local lad and suppoerts Newcastle I will admit dont sound like he is from there either mind haha. Saw him play a few of the pre season games and was well impressed with him.
Red-Robbo Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Let's have him on the bench then and start to worry the other two clowns. If you're good enough, you're old enough...
bucksred Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Great! Stick Gerken in goal and put Lewis on the bench. James can stay back in Devon and study his etchings. Dumbass idea to say the least, forgotten Berkins "performance" at Blackpool???
Guest EstonianRed Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Great thanks for the update...perhaps if he was a bit taller he could have got some finger tips on the top corner goals Is that Chris Garland standing behind him?
tigerroar Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Lewis saved a penalty in our FA Cup game at Chelmsford yesterday -
Guest Eighteen97 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Don't know if I've missed something, but why do Gloucester play in the northern area of that divisional level?
winsleyred Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Don't know if I've missed something, but why do Gloucester play in the northern area of that divisional level? when joining that division there was two many clubs for the southern divison and Gloucester was the most northern
cider11 Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 Don't know if I've missed something, but why do Gloucester play in the northern area of that divisional level? Cos there's too many Southern teams so teams you'd think of as being in the South have to play in the North division. Histon are another team that i would think would be in the South being next to Cambridge but they have to play in the North. Its the same with Worcester too.
tigerroar Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 That's not completely true, when we got promoted Worcester were in the Southern half and when given the option decided that they wanted to stay there so our first season involved us going up the M5 past a Southern team (Worcester City). Added to that Braintree were also further north and this season Bishops Stortford have been "forced" into the Blue Square North despite being next to Stansted Airport.

I thought that you were going to be allowed to change after a couple seasons or was i mistaken?
tigerroar Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 It might have been mentioned as an appeasement at the time but nothing has ever really come up. To be honest it's not all that bad in the North, we're traditionally a southern club so it's a change of scenery. I like to go to as many games as possible and it means I can go to places that I wouldn't otherwise.
Red-Robbo Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Dumbass idea to say the least, forgotten Berkins "performance" at Blackpool??? My post was made before the Blackpool game, you divot. But - in costing us two goals at Blackpool - Gerks only did what James had done the Tuesday before. Only difference being one cost the club a lot more bunce. I gather the great Jamo didn't exactly have a distinguished performance at Barnsley. West Ham will not be as forgiving.
Ron Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I gather the great Jamo didn't exactly have a distinguished performance at Barnsley. West Ham will not be as forgiving. Can't say I agree with that, James had a decent game as did every player in yellow (or white) on Saturday.

tigerroar Posted October 31, 2011 Author Posted October 31, 2011 I wanted Rovers, just for Boris! We came out of the hat one ball after the Scuzz too, I'd have loved to have given them a good dicking on our / their own pitch!
bearded_red Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Can't say I agree with that, James had a decent game as did every player in yellow (or white) on Saturday. If we forget him going walkabout half way through the second half, not really dealing with the long range shot towards the end of the first half and the fact he didn't really have anything else to do, then yes, he had a stormer.
wayne allisons tongues Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I thought the png range shot in the first half was a cracking save. Seemed from the away end the balled moved in the air, but then away view was on other post to where save was made.

It wasn't on the highlights but that was as much the back 4's fault as his own, and I don't know what more you expected him to do with the effort from Wiseman?
Guest AlwayBelieves Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 James is the best keeper on our books! Most Fans seem to forget that the two games Deano has played he has had two shockers! At Leicester and At Blackpool! Im a lover of both and DJ is the better keeper! He may be Arrogant and thats what people dont like about him, but most Keepers are even Basso had a bit of Swag about him! But Why wouldn't Jamo have Arrogance he was Englands Number 1 Fair play! Was and still is a great keeper!

Well first of all the shot I'm on about was from Butterfield, and although it was by no means a howler surely he should/could have done better when you consider the ball dropped into a dangerous area, but luckily for us Nyatanga was there to clear it away rather a Barnsley player. When the shot is from 20 odd yards out surely the keeper should be able to palm the ball in to a less dangerous area. Out for a corner would be better for a start! As for the time he came off his line, I haven't seen it on tele, so I may be wrong, but how on earth can it be the defence's fault?! To me at the other end it seemed the ball was played through, but by no means was there any real danger, then James comes charging off his line! Luckily the Barnsley player pushed the ball too far wide and we were able to get back into position.

Luckily the Barnsley player pushed the ball too far wide and we were able to get back into position. Miscommunication in defence, rarely isolated to one party, as I'm sure you're aware Barnsley were pulling us all over the place at that point and James was put in a compromised position. You have to wonder whether the player would have taken it too wide had James stayed on his line, but he didn't get the ball and could possibly have done better equally. The other shot you mention (my mistake, at the time the 14 looked like a 19) hit James at his near post, he did probably as best he could and parried it away from the goal. You saw later in the game what Butterfield was capable of and it was far from a daisy cutter of an effort.
bearded_red Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I accept that I may be being harsh as the ball did move around alot in the air from the shot from Butterfield and I guess James did stop the thing at the end of the day, but in an ideal world he would have managed to push the ball much wider. As for Butterfield's shot in the second half, WOW! Still going up when it hit the bar! It's a good point about having to go round James probably pushed him wide, and if it was a one off I wouldn't have thought twice about it, but I can't help thinking that James makes more unsucessful attempts to come off his line and get the ball than many other keepers. Although Gerken, good shot stopper that he is, is possibly the worst I've ever seen at deciding when to stay on his line and when to charge out!

Was and still is a great keeper! He's played 4 games. He looked sound against Portsmouth and Swindon ****il his injury). James was always an inconsistent but occasionally an outstanding keeper. That he was England's number 1 tells us more about the dearth of good English goalies than it does about James's abilities. Sadly, he is now past it and shouldn't be playing.
TRL Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 I think James is past it. Now you can't deny he has had a good career, but he is constantly making mistakes you would expect to see a youngster make, he doesn't even do the basics right. Nearly every game, a shot comes in, he palms it back into the 6 yard box, now these should be pushed out wide, out for a corner, over the top or held, back into the 6 yard box is a big no no. I don't know if it is reactions, eyesight or plain poor keeping, but his standard of keeping this year has got to be about the worst I've seen down the gate in 30 years. Added to that his bad decision making for crosses, and you really have to wonder what has happened to "England's no 1" He was always known for making the odd howler here or there, but it is getting more regular, and the outstanding keeping is getting few and far between. Will be interesting to see who will be our no 1 next year.
tigerroar Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 It'll be Lewis' last game tomorrow at home against Halifax Town, or the FC version their fans formed after they let the old one die. There was a piece in the local paper about him too - http://www.tigerroar.co.uk/spf/careycitizen.jpg Thanks for the loan, I hope it's mutually beneficial and can be repeated again with other players of his caliber in the future.
Redhyde Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Well we need him to be playing somewhere so I hope we have somewhere else lined up for him.
Guest chinnock Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Lewis looks like a player with decent potential, but I think we are forgetting that we missed out on a great youngster last year who was aslo on loan (and no disrespect to Gloucester, but he was playing at much higher standard) and that was Stephen Henderson. Hendo was on loan at Yeovil and completed his season by picking up numerous player of the year awards, why we didnt give him a starting place I have no idea. He is now playing for Pompey where he starts. Best of luck to the lad, we have missed out on a player with huge potential. Respect to him though, I saw him at the Birmingham match the other day in the directors box, seems like he would have prefered to have stayed at city...
