It's been a bad day.

It's been a bad start to the season.

Let's have another drink, cheer ourselves up and imagine how it could be......

Martin O'Neill is announced as manager on Monday 03 October followed by a full, noisy, passionate house home to Peterborough. Not seen for a long, long while.

I suddenly feel like I can never miss a city game again. O'Neill does not suffer fools and states that he is starting a clearout whilst inspiring the few decent players we want to keep. I pay anything to watch O'Neill charge up and down the touchline bringing a passion, focus and intelligence that only our real fans can match.

We make changes, finish the season mid table and look to take the league by storm next season.

There is talk on here of accepting relegation when we have over 30 games left to go?!!

Always believe in someting better than you expected.....

You are out of your mind. There's more chance of Gilbert O Sullivan taking over than Martin O Neill.

Anyway, there isn't a managerial vacancy at the moment.

What you smokin ??

Crack?

Our last 4 managers:

Tinnion, cheap appointment from within with no previous experience, didn't work.

Johnson, poached from Yeovil, big success.

Coppell, good track record but we totally failed to spot his complete lack of enthusiasm for a return to management.

Millen, see Tinnion.

See anything there that makes you feel we'll appoint O'Neill, Moyes or any of the other unrealistic suggestions on here (Warnock, Lee Clark, etc)?

I could see it before the 'village green' few scared off SL to actually strive to make us a 'bigger club'.

Now, like many of us I just hope that there is some ambition left that matches mine. Why not O'Neill??

It will depend on the bag man in his tax free haven. SL can have who he wants to help him with success in his new stadium............ is that still on ???

I suggested nearly a year ago it would cost 10 million to turn the club around. Pay off the dross and hire 3/4 real deal players.

SL needs to sell his interest in BCFC to a more vigorous better run operational group, or invest /manage better than he has since the Wilson years.

Why does it take so long for BCFC decision makers to make the right decisions.

Answer : Very few business men have any idea on how to run a football club. Ex footballers have no idea how to run a financial business. When hiring we need to consider this and hire individuals who are experienced in both areas of activities. I would form a board of highly qualified individuals from both the financial and footballing management fields of endeavour. A monthly salary, no contract, but rewards based on profit and results

Then I woke up !

I remember when people on here said there is no way coppell would come to city.

I also remember when people said there is no way David James would come to city.

Dangle enough carrots and you can get pretty much anyone you want, look at man city.

However we wont be getting o Neil. IMO

I think O'Neill is certainly worth enquiring about....although been out of the game a little while.

Not sure if he's a Coppell mark 2 though, doesn't have the most stable history either and could be a gamble.

That said would be my first choice for sure.

Indeed, Manchester City have been in Manchester United's shadow for 30 odd years. Now, with all the money spent on world class players, they're a glamour club once more.

Actually i believe that was the intention when the current re-schuffled board was put together; So i am assuming you woke up and realised exactly that rather than dreamt it.

Martin O'Neill would be terrific, but the board would never match his required transfer budget or salary. The job description is pretty simple. Re motivate the players, get 'em playing to a system that everyone understands, concentrate at set pieces, have the gahoonies to sort out those who are a disruptive influence within the squad and get everyone singing off the same hymn sheet and pulling in the same direction at the same time. Encourage Maynard to move on in January, ship out any dross that isn't required and unleash what Joe Royle used to call "the dogs of war". A couple of astute signings (loan or otherwise), a serious look at the academy and better will follow better. I would love to see Glenn Hoddle in the hotseat but I don't think it's going to happen. It does require a manager with a clear vision good coaching staff though

Love it!! I would be delirious if City appointed Martin O'Neill. He surely has the best cv of all the out of work managers with track trecords in management in the English Leagues. In my opinion, the next few weeks will reveal the true ambitions of Steve Lansdown and his puppet board. Having got to the point of almost securing a showpiece new ground and a Championship play-off final, there is a palpable danger that his overall legacy may turn out to be little better than that of his predecessors. In fact, should we return to League 1 and potentially face the prospect of staying at AG indefinitely, the clubs finances would be horrifically bad and the ensuing 'fire sale' would potentially lead to even greater humiliation and struggle. It is of paramount importance that City appoint the right manager now, not another cheap 'in house' option and allow him to do his job comprehensively with support and negligible interference. After Stewart with Tinnion, and James with Coppell, Steve Lansdown should refrain from making 'Marquee'signings that plough through the club's wage budget and undermine morale and the incumbant manager. I am not overly optimistic about our prospects at this point in time and a proven, experienced unfettered manager is what this club really needs now. Martin O'Neill has these credentials and proved at Villa, that he won't be undermined by the board. Since he left they have been seriously underwhelming, and that in itself speaks volumes about the man's ability and character.

Many years ago I believe both us and the gas tried to get Martin O'Neil when he was still a relàtively new manager are Wycombe and he politely turned us both down. There is absolutely no chance he would even consider us now.Shame but that is the reality
