Guest Patoc Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 I came across the following article: "Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown insists manager Keith Millen will not be sacked despite a poor start to the season. The Robins fell to the foot of the Championship table after a 3-0 home defeat to Norwich on Saturday, having only managed six points from 10 games so far. Millen's side have yet to pick up a win at Ashton Gate this season but Lansdown is refusing to bow to pressure from sections of the City support calling for a more experienced man at the helm, and he told the Daily Mirror: "It's a time to stick together. We haven't become a bad football club overnight." Millen added: "The fans are having a go at Keith and certain players, but if they think there is a lack of commitment they are wrong. We need them to stand by us. "I'm concerned, but I have seen an improvement in the squad recently and there is no doubt we have the players to do better. With the international break, we now have two weeks to stew on being bottom and we have to use that time to ensure we come back stronger." Sound familiar ? This was written on October 4 2010 when we were in exactly the same position, except this time we were beaten 5 - 0, no Steve Landsdown as Chairman, and no significant improvement in the squad ( especially defence) !! I pray that Colin Sexstone and the Board don't trot out the same lame excuses this week and look at what history is saying. We have made zero progress and if we want Championship football next year we need an experienced Championship Manager NOW to lead us there.

As if I wasn't worried alreadly..!
slartibartfast Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 We haven't become a bad football club overnight." [/quote) No, fair play, it's taken about two and a half years!
maxjak Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 "Those who fail to remember the past are condemned to repeat it" A well known quote which Mr Lansdown would do well to take heed of. It's remarkable that such an astute businessman is unable to see what the vast majority of fans could see coming 6 months ago. It gives me no pleasure to be proved right with regard to Keith Millen, a bloke who you would love as a next door neighbour.................but as a football manager.....he's just not up to it, and never has been.
Red Exile Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 very good spot by the OP. Lansdown should be more regularly held to account. Would be good to read over all those ambitious statements that were made when Coppell was appointed... Last October was, I think, the point at which I regretted renewing my ST. Didn't make the same mistake this year!
BCAGFC Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Don't forget that we didn;t sign Caulker until LATE October. Where we are going to get these leaders from I don;t know and if we find some willing to sign they are not going to be cheap. Our current bunch of pathetic pansies need a good kick up the butt or preferably 2 hands around their throat and grip TIGHTLY!!!............. GUTLESS ********. BCAGFC
maxjak Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 That's a very good observation and underlines the lack of progress. The club seems to be completely rudderless at the moment with a lack of leadership both on and off the field from the board down, and thosee in the football club don't appear to realise how much that affects the supporter base, which is a huge concern. I do think Millen recognises the lack of leadership on the field and is stuck between a rock and a hard place at the moment with no discernible support from the board or a lot of the supporter base. All it takes is for the Chairman to take control of the situation and talk to the supporters about the current problems and how the club are going to address it - he needs to tell us what they are doing about the lack of progress and how we are going to move forward. Tell us exactly why it's been so difficult to get decent quality players in - no more contradictory statements from chairman and manager, show us a united front. The chairman needs to show some leadership and galvanise the support for the club instead of providing the platform to enable negative and venemous bile against the club and manager. Either protect the manager or get rid of him, tell us what you are doing about the situation but don't do or say nothing as that makes the situation worse. SL is a motivational speaker and he was proven right last season, but he can't do that anymore as he's not a part of the club other than being the major shareholder, but Sexstone as the chairman should be leading from the front and making a better pitch than his recent interview on BCFC World. If he doesn't get on his hind legs and open his gob soon, then he's going to find attendances of 10k in the ground and the negativity escalating towards complete ambivalence. Absolutely.....very well put. This is a time for strong and positive action, as the current position cannot be allowed to continue. We need leadership to bring players and supporters together, but is there any character within Bristol City capable of achieving this? Maybe time for the Batphone!
