Guest RedTide Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 A mind-numbing trawl through Wikipedia shows the win % of most managers. Over 40% is a successful manager. Up to 44-45 % is promotion winning form. Over that is outstanding. Jones, McInnes and Davies all roughly similar 41-42 territory. Millen was 32 %. Suggest board trawl these facts before appointing!
Brizzle Jordan Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 McInnes record is actually rather impressive.. only 30 odd defeats in 130 games managing St Johnstone is decent to say the least.
TRL Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Millen in his caretaker role had 50 something percent ratio. I am sure Wilson's win ratio was up in the 40's but it doesn't tell you anything. 40 something percent may look good, but we all know Wilson massively underachieved with the resources available to him.
GrahamC Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Trouble is you're not comparing like for like. The likes of Jones has largely plied his trade in the top two divisions of the English leagues. Even the Championship is a far superior league to the SPL in Scotland. It is, however the point you're missing is that managing anyone bar the old firm in the SPL means you start with 6 likely defeats a season, as they play each other more times......

Yep, valid point but you can only beat who's put infront of you. I wouldn't mind Dave Jones either but i could not watch his interviews as he just sounds depressed.

Took over a team who'd been stuck in the conference for 3 years, got them promoted to League 1 within 3 seasons having only spent any money on 1 player. Reknowned for playing attractive football. His first 3 signings at Exeter were 3 defenders (so knows how to combat the weakest area's of a team). He sounds good.............. Nice dress sense too : http://www.lifesapit...ale-13-july.jpg
Nibor Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Comparing win %ages doesn't tell you much useful as there are too many other variables (budget, opposition, squad size and so on). I hope the board narrow applications to a list of the three or so best (feasible) candidates, interview them all and make a good judgement of character.
