Guest BristolCityFC1 Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 I have heard some rubbish on this forum, but honestly, i understand peoples opinion but to hear these mentions names is just ridiculous! This is BRISTOL CITY, we are a sleeping giant, i dont care what people say, this club has soooo much potential, the managerial position that is now in discussion is sooo important for the future of the club, people obviously expressing their opinions is understandable but lets be honest, when we r referring to Tisdale, this is a guy that is managing a tiny club of Exeter, not disrespect but WE ARE BRISTOL CITY, we are so much bigger and better than them to be blunt, he has experience, wooooopido da but nothing close to what we NEED in the prospect of an actual REAL challenge for promotion! As for Karl Robinson...well as for Scottish Football, its abit of a downgrade compared to the competitiveness of the Championship... Bearing in mind everything stated here...in the love of the OTIB...IMO!!
Rob k Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 What's Scottish football got to do with anything?? Both those managers for me would be an exciting and bold move by the board, young and ambitious is the way forward.

Keith Millen was young and ambitious and imo was a very bold move by the board, do we wanna go down that road again??
Rob k Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Tisdale has been a manager for 10 years with numerous promotions, Robinson has won half his 70 games despite cutting his wage bill by over 1m in the division below us, was recently linked with the west ham job and has been voted the best manager outside the prem. Both a bit different to millen I'm sure you would agree!!

Bearing in mind everything stated here...in the love of the OTIB...IMO!! Oh I just love the differing opinions on here when its the regular change of manager time. It seems that there are two camps One who would prefer an established name with experience at this level (at least) and the other preferring an up & coming type manager. Sadly as none of us (or the board) can predict the future, any appointment is a gamble and we should all remember that Championship managers usually have a shelf life of around 15 months. For me personally, when looking at the 'experienced' group available, the names of those being mentioned just doesn't exite me. Davies seems arrogant and continually bickers with his board, Jones one a decent job at Wolves but I felt should have done better with Cardiff and the likes of Curbishley haven't been in the game for quite some time so perhaps may not be as on the ball (excuse the pun) as they once were. Of course their experience counts for something though and should have contacts in the game to obtain us the required players - at least on loan - assuming we cannot afford to buy them. In the other camp the names being banded around of Lee Clark, Paul Tisdale etc etc mainly seemed to be tainted purely by their lack of experience. Of course they can do nothing to alter this. One thing however that this type of manager would bring to the table would be hunger. It is safe to assume that a manager who see's himself as going places will have the necessary determination, drive and passion to overcome their lack of experience. This would be a greak skill set and perhaps could set them aside from those who have 'been there - got the T Shirt'. Tisdale has regularly overachived with Exeter and Lee Clark's team are currently 36 games unbeaten (a record). Hunger and desire can work and we can all see with Bendan Rodgers & Gus Poyet. Their hunger should determine that they will not tolerate any sh** from the players or allow any over inflated ego's. It is a difficult choice our board now have to make. I wish them luck with it, as no doubt they themselves will be judged on it. For the record - prior to appointing Coppell, my choice then (and still now) would be Eddie Howe. He's somewhere inbetween the two types above

The Championship is a very tough league and I do not think it is the best arena for an up and coming manager. You just have to look at the last two 'Championship failures'. Steve McClaren (ex England manager) and Keith Millen (up and coming?). What we desperately need is someone who knows the championship and has had reasonable success at this level. The only one that screams out to me is Dave Jones. Some people have him down as a failure but to me he has competed at the top end of a very tough division for several years. Plus he must also live fairly local!

And i think we all know the gap between the division below us as you put it is massive!!
