Who would be more suited? Jones or Robins?

City Loyal Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Tough one...I'd be happy with either to be honest. I know SL rates Robins highly as an individual but Jones for some reason I cant explain seems the obvious choice?
havanatopia Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 One from O'Neill, McInnes, Jones or Davies in that order.
Guest terjon Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 We need a leader and man manager that can motivate the team the fans and more importantly the board into believing that this club could really push on now to the next level. We have a new ground on the horizon and it is vital we bring in someone with the knowledge and common sence approach to lift everyone including making the board understand the need for more investment. We need better quality players that can fill a 30,000 seater staduim week in week out, we need to be pushing for prem football over the next 2 seasons. for me Martin Oneil would be perfect, but jones or billy davies would be also what we need. a goof kick up the ass is certainly required we have pissed about for to long. Lets get Bristol in the prem, the fans will soon follow. Lets all hope the board dont make another cheap rash judgement.

I know SL rates Robins highly as an individual but Jones for some reason I cant explain seems the obvious choice? That's the worst of all reasons - his apparent closeness to Tinnion, and then Millen, were undoubtedly factors in their sorry appointments. I couldn't care less if SL likes the new manager as a person, or not, as long as he's the right man to take Bristol City forward. No more cosy and pally relationships - we need a really hard and determined character who by their very nature may have occasional friction with the board and SL. Less sentimental prevaricating if things don't work out as well.
brady bunch Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 their wage demands will be a factor, me thinks! so Robins probably!!

Bang on Nogs And I'm sure someone else has pointed this out, but if you go within 100 foot of the new guy with Turnip and a camera.......
Guest Pemburthy Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Would somebody please explain to me what Dave Jones actually achieved as manager of the sheep!?

Who would be more suited? Jones or Robins? I work with many Baadiff fans and they thought a great deal of Jones as he played attacking, attractive, entertaining football - for me the question is whether our board will want him as he will cost to support properly, I just hope he comes and that we don't once again bring an unproven manager in who has little experience of the Championship. As DJ has considerable contacts for loanees etc and is clearly a good negotiator, remember he brought some great loan signings to Baadiff, I'd personally have him every day of the week!
cheshire_red Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Would somebody please explain to me what Dave Jones actually achieved as manager of the sheep!? Brought through a lot of young talent which was sold for vast quantities of English Pounds to keep the Scum in business. FA Cup Final appearance, In and around the Play-offs at all times. I would however be far more excited by McInnes..........

How many city fans had heard of him,or even new where he managed until we started looking for a manager. not proven in the championship,we need a quality manager not another hopeful trying to prove his worth. Dave Jones by a mile. However Billy Davies is the man for me,Jones behind him-both would be great for the club. :sign09:
Roger Red Hat Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 midtable team to play off contenders.. got their gates u to 10k to 22k Really? You surprise me, they we're only getting 10k when he joined?
Monkeh Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 jones, We need some one with a history and experance of re-building clubs, Jones has this with Wolves, Southampton, Cardiff he come with increadible contacts in the game and a wealth of knowlidge, he's fought relegation with southampton and wolves he got wolves promoted and he almost got cardiff (who only 10 years ago were below us in the league) in to regular play-off contenders in the championshp, He is also loyal and plays attrictive attacking football Where has robins jumped ship at Rotherham as soon as a bigger job came in and didn't really do much in his time at Barnsley Peoples Judgement of Jones is clouded by his Cardiff days a bit like when John Ward took over and there were mumblings about him being an ex gas boss
South Bristol Red Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Would somebody please explain to me what Dave Jones actually achieved as manager of the sheep!? fa cup final 2008 2008/9 7th missed out on play-offs on goals scored 2009/10 4th lost play-off final v blackpool 2010/11 4th play-offs semis losing to reading quite a good record if you ask me
cider head Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 One from O'Neill, McInnes, Jones or Davies in that order. I'd go with that short list with added robins to it... As for O'Neill he said he is open to offers and a price of a phone call to find out would not hurt even if nothing comes of it, if you don't ask you will never know and all this big money transfer thing I don't think he would not need to spend too much in the transfer market, the odd CH, LB and CM and we are not too far away, the pefrormance against reading suggests we got fire power when we can be arsed, just some organisation and some discipline needed. What O'Neill would be good at is putting a few players back in their place (reading in to careys interview) and doing what they are paid for or there is the door regardless of who you are and he will tell people why he's done it. We need a very strong and respected character in the hot seat next, the type who commands respect but can also put an arm of encouragement around a player to and if not O'neil then some one like him is needed. Sometimes out of work managers review their own needs in hard times and hard times of football clubs when the clock ticks on and no job offer comes along as people put in the press write your too expensive or chuck a dummy out over transfers, etc and you start to see your then destiny pan out stuck as a sky pundit.

If i'd take a chance with any inexperienced manager it would have to be Mcinnes but i would want Jones. Robins is definitely a good runner up to Jones though.

Guest Pemburthy Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Thanks for all your replies. Alas! As I thought he actually achieved far less than sheep city fans actually thought he would - losers how many times?
