Guest Syco Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 That is what the board need to decide. Personally I want someone that can build something for the future. If it means we have to take the hit and go down ala Norwich, Southampton etc then so be it. I don't want us to appoint someone that will just keep us up year after year. We need someone that is going to bring a attractive brand of football to AG and be prepared to bring through youth.
Guest ateyomike Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 thinking along the same lines we still have too many players that were there at our play off final and we've gone backwards every season since
Guest Bored Dilemma Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Agreed. Used to know Peter Jones deputy chairman at Argyle who left shortly after Sturrock version 1. He was a massive advocate of the 5 year plan and during his time at the club they progressed within their budget. Not easy. We need a clear, communicated 5 year plan. Do we want to be a Premier League club etc etc Then measure it. We need the Manager to deliver it.
havanatopia Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 With the huge investment, let alone upheaval, i doubt there is a club in the land who seeks a manager for a short term fix. On the other hand there most certainly are owners who make somewhat unbelievably stupid decisions. The top of the bill must be the chicken lickers at Blackburn for sacking big Sam. I think that should be right up there as the foolhardiest managerial decision of this century.
Guest Bored Dilemma Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Followed closely by Newcastle sacking Robson for Souness!!
havanatopia Posted October 4, 2011 Posted October 4, 2011 Followed closely by Newcastle sacking Robson for Souness!! Absolutely right there; that was indeed mind blowingly idiotic.

I think if you appoint someone just because they have beat the drop previously then that is a short term fix and many clubs are guilty of that. As someone said above we need a clear 3-5 year plan in place. We have numerous players out of contract in the summer so if we can stay up then great if we can't then we have plenty of scope to bring in new fresh players during the summer and the opportunity for the new man to stamp his mark on the team.
