Guest AntoDRFC Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Hi Guys, As many have done, the talkSport guy said SOD is close to becoming your new manager, true or not I've had a read of your forum and there is some tripe on here to say the least. O'Driscoll, just been sacked from a team worse than us.. yes it is possible.. Im guessing you didn't watch the game when we played doncaster, worst team i've ever seen, you talk about this passing total football being played under o'driscoll, it clearly doesn't work. 18 Months ago the whole football league were raving about Sean, We were third in the championship (YES 3rd DONCASTER ROVERS that pub team just south of weeds). All of this was achieved on a shoe string budget, with incredible use of the loan market. Ok we got some dodgy loans (Brooker/Webster/Souza) but he also brought in some crackers (Sharp/Gillett/Matt & Joe Mills) This didn't happen by luck it happened from being a good manager. Then, disaster struck for us, FOURTEEN first team players got injured, ANY team losing that many players are going to struggle, especially those with little money. Sharp/Hayter/Stock/Woods/O'Connor (i won't go on) were all out, and yes the defeats stacked up and we only just survived last season. We got 'some' of our first team back but not all our best, and we started at Brighton. During that game both Billy Sharp and James Hayter were again stretchered off (1-0 up at this point) then the next game vs Tranmere (cup) Ryan Mason was stretchered off. All got long term ankle injuries (heck we thought Billy had broke his leg) and this hasn't helped this term. "Im guessing you didn't watch the game when we played doncaster, worst team i've ever seen" you can't play amazing football every week, If you had come to the Keepmoat and watched us piss all over West Ham United (passing wise we just had nothing up front and therefore lost) you'd think **** me Doncaster play some amazing football, Sean does that and we really have been treated to some champaign football these past few seasons. But do remember this, he kept us in the division for 3 seasons, bottom at christmas in his first season, he guided us to a mid-table finish after a run of 17 wins in 23 games (or sumet daft like that) I do think SOD would do a great job for you guys long term but it'd take him time to settle. It'd also take time to get you playing and therefore I don't think he's the best man for the job currently as (like us) you needs wins right now. He was great for us, but in the end we just needed a change, and so far that change has been positive for us, long may it continue Good luck to you guys for the rest of your season, see you in January Anto RTID!

No doubt he is a good manager but if he came here and had a slow start fans would be on his back immediately because of him being sacked recently by Donny. We need a manager to hit the ground running and really shake up the team to get some wins immediately....

I agree, when he came to DRFC from Bournemouth (we were all like Sean who?) he had a very slow start and we were all screaming SOD OUT!! Look what he did for us But your right, you need your own 'Dean Saunders', not Sean O'Driscoll

BCFC Jordan Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 More people that are against O'Driscoll need to read this. I love how so many people wanted either him or Coppell after GJ went. Now after a poor run of games at Doncaster who had over half their squad out injured, O'Driscoll is now a terrible manager and Dave Jones who couldn't get a Cardiff side including Ramsey, Bellamy, Chopra, Bothroyd, Burke and Whittingham promoted, is the new messiah.
Monkeh Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 I wouldn't be against him but I would rather the sottish guy or Jones
WellRedPhil Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 A manager I've always admired and he did an incredible job at Doncaster. Why he wasn't really given any of the money they now suddenly seem to have is beyond bizarre.

Good post. SoD is obviously a good manager and I'd be fine if they appointed him. We actually have a much better squad than some are giving us credit for and Im pretty sure he could get a lot more out of some of our expensive rejects. The points you raised have, in fairness, been raised all over this forum but people have come back with "everyone has injuries" "were the injuries really that bad" "losing 19 in a row doesn't happen just because of injuries" "he lost the dressing room" and "is keeping doncaster in the league that good an achievement?". Which to me are just guesses and arguments fitted to suit their purpose. Also in fairness, a lot on here have said, "we think he's a good manager it's just I worry that he is the right man to take us off the bottom of the table quickly". I dont have those particular doubts as I think our squad is better than relegation, thus with some basic organisation and a bit of motivation and new manager syndrome we can climb up towards mid table. But at least this argument is more understandable. Didnt your chairman advise Sheff Utd last seaon that SoD wasnt their man for an immediate relegation fight? (admittedly their situation was far graver than ours). I'd like to think if he does get the job, then the majority of the fans recognise he's a good manager and will be right behind him. Most seem to fall into the second category above "he's good but worried about him in a relegation scrap". Not that many seem to think his achievements arent any good.

Anto, agree 100% with your comments,i was screaming for to us to bring SOD in when coppell got the job. The guy plays football the correct way,PERSONALLY WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH HIM COMING HERE,but i think he needs time to sort this mess out. I have gone for Billy Davies followed by Dave Jones, followed by SOD. I would have no problems with these three. SOD is a very good football manager and will rise again.
SJC Posted October 5, 2011 Posted October 5, 2011 Despite his stock falling he is still my first choice. Whilst the consideration, as you suggest (and thanks for taking the time to visit us), that he may take time to implement his style is a concern, it is my belief that the talent within the squad added to it's reinvigorated nature would nullify said concerns. That is not to suggest he would turn is into free-flowing title contenders overnight, simply that we would see an upturn in form which should steer I'd clear of relegation. All the best to yourself and Donny too I might add.
