City_USA Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Apparently DJ has officially applied for the position, http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2045774/Former-England-goalkeeper-David-James-wants-manage-Bristol-City.html Please board NO, Del Boy for me please!
Mrdc Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 They want somebody with managerial experience and he doesn't have any. So hopefully he won't get it.
Pewsham Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I think DJ will make a very good manager for someone one day.... but this is the wrong club and wrong time to start
simonwheeler Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 As with another thread if Calamity got the job then that would be me finished after over 40 years. NO, NO and NO
Andy082005 Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 As with another thread if Calamity got the job then that would be me finished after over 40 years. NO, NO and NO Yeah I am with you on this one Personally wouldnt mind James seeing out this season, retiring and getting his coaches badges, then maybe becoming goal keeping coach....but manager? no way
Eddie Hitler Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Don't blame him for applying, will give him a bit of interview practice and the feedback will let him know what clubs look for in a manager.
Guest Bcfcdellers Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I think James could be a good no2 to a decent manager to gain experience but please let's not have another novice in charge! We loved tinnion for years and he turned into a hate figure Millen was the same let's stay clear of former or current players with no experience surely we've learned that????
SC_Red Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 just what we need. an untried rookie promoted from within. this has a history of working at our club.
Oizys Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 As with Shearer, I think he could become a good manager, but this is not the right time nor the right place to kick start that career. Both are very intelligent guys who have played at the very top of the game so the potential is there. But as I said about Shearer on that thread, they should both look to do what Poyet & Clarke have done and get their experience in the lower leagues first before working their way up. Exeter or Plymouth would be the perfect job for James. Local lower league clubs where he can cut his managerial teeth.
Oizys Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Dear Oh Dear talk about armchair pundits deciding what's best for the club...unless you lot have a crystal ball or know DJ well enough as a bloke or indeed a coach then I can't see how you could have such an opinion. He has been in the England set up for many years, no guarantee I know, but for me he is a CHARACTER and in these days they are just too few, so if James wants to hang up his gloves I reckon he would be a great appointment for any club, in whichever capacity the Chairman considered. But not for City according to some of you, if he wants to work with this club then that's a start. So you would be happy for the club to take a risk in appointing another manager with no experience? That is a massive, MASSIVE, risk for the club where we are now. As for not seeing how anyone could have such an opinion, then the same could be said for you in holding the opinion that he would be a great appointment for any club. Do you have a crystal ball or know DJ well enough to know that?!? As I said, I happen to agree that he has the potential to be a good manager. At this stage we need a little more security than "potential" though.
Roger Red Hat Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 He has zero chance of actually getting the job. Tinnion and then MIllen were both promoted from within and look how that ended. The lesson should of been learnt by now. I don't for one moment think Jamo will be appointed, but it's a different scenario with him, BT and KM. They had both been here for years and were very much part of the furniture but Jamo has had a totally different career.
CotswoldRed Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Without the benefit of any hindsight on his likely success, this has to be a NO.

But I'd rather we did'nt take such a risk on this occasion.
redcherryberry Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Tinnion and Millen were given a chance to 'learn their trade' at this club so it wouldnt surprise me if James got it. Would be typical of this club.
Oizys Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Assistant ? No reason why not. Certainly Wiggles comments suggest that he'll be off soon, so it's not a crazy suggestion depending on who comes in.

Guest jamesbryantrec Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 The Daily Fail link doesn't work anymore, guessing there wasn't an ounce of truth in it at all. Standard Daily Fail then
Alex_BCFC Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I wouldn't be happy with it and as the link doesn't work, I guess it was a joke. Either way, to say you would stop supporting City is pathetic. Whoever manages us, whatever division etc I'm CTID.

CotswoldRed Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I'd want the manager living a little bit closer than James tbh
downendcity Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Not sure of DJ threw his hat into the ring, or whether it fell into the ring when he let it slip from his grasp.

Tim S Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Interesting thing is that I havent seen David James mentioned in any of the odds, even as an outsider at 50/1 or something. Does anyone know what his actual odds are? I know its VERY unlikely that it will be him, but if its 50/1 or even more then perhaps worth just a couple of quid on it?!
SecretSam Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 Not now, DJ, sorry mate - we need a bit of nous to steady the ship But good shout for assistant Are any of our other coaches up to much? I've a huge fondness for Walshy from his playing days, but not sure he's a top coach...

I've a huge fondness for Walshy from his playing days, but not sure he's a top coach... I heard a rumor that there is a possible Joe Jordan (Manager) & David James (Assistant) combination being considered. They worked together at Portsmouth so I guess its not too far fetched.
Red-Robbo Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I think James could be a good no2 to a decent manager He's a "number 2" alright! If he's thrown his hat into the ring, I imagine it missed and has been picked up by an opposition player.
Pete1975Legend Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 He's a "number 2" alright! If he's thrown his hat into the ring, I imagine it missed and has been picked up by an opposition player. You can be sure gerken wouldn't have got close.......
Red Cloud Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 personally I'd be horrified if DJ was manager/assistant manager - I reckon he's part of the problem why the players are as uninterested as they are, can't see them playing for him!
TRL Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 You can be sure gerken wouldn't have got close....... Maybe not, but he will be paid 10-12 grand a week less not to get so close

Red-Robbo Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 I suggest the biggest problem is a bristolian.......... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz your evidence for this assertion being what exactly?
Crackers Corner Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 didn't James state when he signed that he didn't know anything about football?
Guest Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Which proves nobody has a scooby what's going on.
