cityed Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 So I live and work in London. It's been a fairly drunken night but there has been a lot of football banter tonight. I met a scotish guy who was talking a lot about Celtic and rangers and I have mates who are man utd and man city fans. Midway through a few questions I asked if he had heard of Derek mcinnis. Immediately his response was 'are you a Bristol city fan' which in London is a very rare thing. He was incredibly positive about DM and said he is going to be a hugely important manager and if we get him will magd a huge impact. This has made me very very excited about the guy. I realise this isn't important at all but thought I would share my experience. Ed
BRIAN WILSON Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I emailed a Scottish mate of mine from Aberdeen ( massive Rangers Fan/Season Ticket holder ) who is well into his 60's and has coached in the past on a pro and semi-pro level and what he doesn't know about football in general is not worth knowing , I asked him about DM and here's his reply "Excellent manager. Really good footballer with Morton, (captain), Rangers and West Brom where he was captain and they wanted him to stay but he took the St Johnstone job and is very successful. Very well respected young manager. I expect him to perhaps one day be the Rangers manager." Interesting
CityBS15 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Really think this is the man to take us foward, he was always a lively terrier for wba and would relish the challenge at our club, I really wanna see this man Del take the helm and sort us out
bcfcchris2016 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 It's great that everyones saying the same thing. He is a young talented upcoming manager. Hope he is appointed
westonred Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Reading the Saints forum it seems Delboy has been away from training for a couple of days this week, probably in Bristol for an interview ? Del must be away to talk to Bristol since Tony Docherty seems to be doing all the media talking over the last 48hrs. I rate this guy and think he will be one of the two called back for a second interview.. His odds are still at 7/1 with skybet so i've just wacked a tenner down on him..
havanatopia Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Has anyone bothered to actually look at St Johnstones results this season? It is a mixed bag in what is essentially a poor league! Even Celtic look off the boil this year so it's not even a two team league at the moment. If people were saying Stuart McCall who is doing really well at motherwell( but not so well in England if you remember) it would have more credibility! Let someone else take the gamble he is not what we need at this time!!!!! Your remark about McCall being more credible but did not do well in England seems to me to be an oxymoron.
Brizzle Jordan Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Your remark about McCall being more credible but did not do well in England seems to me to be an oxymoron. Exactly, McCall flopped at Bradford!
The Batman Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 was chatting to a west brom fan yesterday. the fans could not think highly enough of him. he said there was talk of him becoming their manager but Di Matteo was given it.
havanatopia Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Accept your point, after looking up oxymoron, but the McInnes fever seems to be based on his results at st johnstone and McCalls results have been better at Motherwell, so why is his name not in the frame if that's what we are going on?? That is the point I was trying to make, probably not very well. Ok, not trying to catch you out red just curious in case you mis-wrote it. Question you ask then.. I think you answered it in your own question.. he has not faired well in England. That said Bradford, for whatever reason, has been a poisoned chalice for many managers these past 3-4 years. As for his time at The Well; we have talked a lot about backroom staff and how they impact the manager. Some seem to get by in their number 1 role with little 'managing' assistance from their number 2. I think in McCall's case he has one of the best number 2's in Scottish football in Kenny Black. A man who used to play for Well and had a stint in the national team. He has definitely helped McCall and their relative success this season and last. i think McInnes has a very good number 2 as well and that may be a sticking point if the Saints want to promote from within as they have historically done very succesfully and won't let him leave with Del. All of that said i think the overriding downside for McCall is his time in English management; he probably needs a cup win or a berth in Europe for English clubs to sit up and take notice of him again. McInnes' record, on the other hand, is untainted so far and his stock has always had an upward trajectory. I also happen to think, however, that McInnes could be more capable of standing it alone than McCall.
Brizzle Jordan Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Rumour on St Johnstone forum that he wants to leave for a new challenge with more investment. Doubt it's true though
havanatopia Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Well worded but all conjecture. Are you really in Havana? Sure am. Sadly not as much as I was before.
Guest newyear'sday97 Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 Rumour on St Johnstone forum that he wants to leave for a new challenge with more investment. Doubt it's true though If You're referring to the numpty who said he heard this from his "other half", he's a Dundee fan on a fishing trip mate. Can't really see Del roaming round McDiarmid telling anyone who cares to listen that he wants to leave But I hope you guys decide to go for McCall - definitely, definitely better than Del - oh yes he's the guy you should go for, Del's rubbish really. No honestly he's rubbish.......
