Red Robin Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Right some on here reckon we can not afford DJ or BD wages. Simple question would you prefer David James earning the salary or Dave jones or Billy Davies? No one need to be Einstein in choosing this outcome surley?
Red Robin Posted October 9, 2011 Author Posted October 9, 2011 david james is under contract so it's a moot point. Not the question I asked.
Guest Mr Wendall Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I'd prefer a decent manager, but as stated it doesn't make any difference to our situation, James is under contract we have to pay him until that contract is up. I don't get the point you are trying to make?
Fiale Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Not the question I asked. It was, maybe you worded it badly !

Or move james out on lone someone would cover his wages. There is the money for the manager.

Move James out on loan, then not only are we looking for a new manager, we would then be looking for a new keeper. Don't make sense in my mind.

SHift out naylor and Walsh and there is the money for a decent manager whilst improving the coaching staff simple really.
marmite Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Forgive the math but surely another 3000 on the average home gate would mean another £60000 every home game in gate receipts. (£20 ave. per fan). Thats what a big name could pull in. That would surely cover the extra wages a top manager might ask for on top of what KM got.

Imagine if city were in the playoff spot most of the season, then revinue it would generate would cover a top managers wages.

We won't get anywhere near that until we get rid of at least half our current squad, half of them can't pass a ball to a red shirt. BCAGFC

Guest Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I don't see many clubs lining up to take DJ on loan on his current weekly wages.

No naylor and Walsh wages are a waste. Especially when your goalkeeping coach isn't half as good as the person he is trying to improve and coach
SC_Red Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 No naylor and Walsh wages are a waste. Especially when your goalkeeping coach isn't half as good as the person he is trying to improve and coach well if he was better he'd be playing instead of james. Bit unrealistic to expect coaches to be better than the players.

I would like to see a total change in the backroom staff,I would want my own team in place if I was buying another business, not someone's else's backroom team. They whole coaching staff needs overhauling. If the rumour regards DJ wanting his own people on board is true,it is something the board should accommodate.

Bristol City FC is barely a viable business and you propose that Steve Lansdown puts in even more money.

Frome Valley Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 No what he is saying is that if Jones needs to bring in his own back room staff we should accommodate it and ship the rest out. Some of Bristol Citys backroom staff are not highly paid. Dave Jones and his backroom staff would be. When it comes down to it the club problems are down to piss poor recriutment of players who are on wages that mean clubs do not want to buy them. Any new manager should be expected to possess the skills to adjust to what is already here and its restrictions.

If were going to restrict the next boss we won't get anyone of any stature guarrented
Guest Tenyards Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Get into the Premier League and the rewards are there to cover good players and a good manager. Our financial problems come from the fact that we have too big a squad with many of them on the sort of pay you would expect from top of the Championship/bottom of the Premier and they are bottom of the championship heading for League One. That is because outr last manager failed to ship anyone out in the transfer window and bought players who were not of a high enough standard to get the results. David James with his record of more clean sheets in the Premier League than any other goalkeeper will attract people to matches vut he needs to be playing behind a decenet defence and midfield, Neither he, not his wages, are the problem. His contract is up at the end of the season and I would expect a decent new manager to have an eye on the fact that he is over 40 years of age so we need a replacement lined up. James is good enough for this season and should be a major part of keeping us up (which thanks to the diabolical start is all I am hoping for now).
REDOXO Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 The club will be looking at all the available options for managers and weighing up the costs. Money is an issue at any football club even the ones like ourselves that have a wealthy benefactor, however we are on the edge of a season long relegation battle and relegation from this division would be close to disasterous for everyone. None of this is lost on the board or the benefactor or for that matter the backroom staff. Yes there will be a finite amount they will want to pay a new manager however the club will break the bank if Martin O'Neil was seriously interested and I really dont think that money will be a factor as many have suggested (Robins/cheap option). The Modus Operandi of the new guy will be keep us in the division this season, allow a lot of the contracts to expire in june 2012 and then build your own team... With the players we have this is going to be a very attractive proposition for those like McInnes or Robins who have had to work magic on a shoestring so I suspect the competition for the job is fierce between SOD and those two For the like of Dave Jones and our former CB much less so but hey its work! My gut instinct is that as someone said to me yesterday 'we have as much chance as getting Martin O'Neil as winning the Premier League', however there is some quality out there and I would suggest McInnes would be the man the board is likely to favour on the face of it, but interviews can be funny things and a much darker horse may have a chance...Eitehr way the suspense is killing me!
Frome Valley Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 You have the backroom wage amounts then? If were going to restrict the next boss we won't get anyone of any stature guarrented The annual accounts contained concern about the viabilty of BCFC, the next will be as grisly again, damn right the next boss should be operating under restrictions unless Steve Lansdown is giving his money away. Bristol City's current wage bill is more than clubs which have been promoted. Staff at City Wigley apart [???] are not high earners.
