Backpage Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 The amount of nagativity and ill-informed comment about the managerial candidates on this website is staggering. What exactly do some of those posting comments know about Dave Jones, Mark Robins, Sean O'Driscoll, Derek McInnes, Billy Davis and what they might bring to our club. For those who bleat that they 'want a big name with Championship experience who will put bums on seats' I will say two words to you: Steve Coppell. For those who say we need a young ambitious manager with a passion for the club, I will offer four words: Brian Tinnion, Keith Millen. There is no perfect prescription for the best type of manager except that we don't want one who has seen his better days and is simply looking for another pay-cheque. But please, let's leave it up to the board to interview the candidates and take soundings within the game about them before they make the appointment. Moaning and pre-judging just creates a sour atmosphere for the new manager to step into. COYR
steviestevieneville Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Totally agree. Thing is some people on here think we got divine right to attract people like Martin O'neil. Nothing wrong with dreaming but we need some realism. I think due to a number of reasons the feel on this forum is very negative at the moment, but the amount of dissenting voices on here only reflects probably less than 1% of our fan base. Whoever comes in let's give him a decent chance before getting on his back, at least a year. He will have his work cut out sorting out a system to fit the players we got, assessing the squad and trying to get 1 or 2 out and in so give him some slack. Lets not go down the road of that other lot, the oh so loyal blue few. They had the messiah a couple of months ago, now they want him out.
Red-Robbo Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Well said both posters. It's a football cliche but we are the 12th man and I'd like to think we'll all make the new manager feel really welcome here and not let him start his job thinking: "What am I doing here? The fans want me out before I've even begun the job!" COYR the only way is up!

COYR Agree totally, as i've alluded to on other posts i'm sure when Pulis was re-employed by Stoke I would'nt mind betting not many Stoke fans were happy, ask them now. We all have our preferred favourite for the job and one or two of the names being bandied around don't particularly inspire me, however until evidence to the contrary where it counts (results) I will as ever reserve judgment.

When City played Port Vale a few years back I listened to Radio Stoke on the way out and Stoke had lost away at Wolves, 3-0, and Stoke fans to a man were screaming for Pulis to go and all saying that he should never have returned to the club. Patience is a virtue.
Backpage Posted October 10, 2011 Author Posted October 10, 2011 Just get back to interviewing Colin and we'll worry about the moaning. You don't know how close you are. Good try.

boadle Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Also, there's every chance a prospective candidate might look at this forum to get an idea of the feelings of the fans. If we are seen to be constantly bickering, bitching and moaning it doesn't create a great impression does it?
Sir Colby-Tit Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Fans expressing opinions on a potential new manager on a football forum? Shocking behaviour
havanatopia Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 You don't know how close you are. Good try. Mr. Lansdown Jnr, you should know better than to come on here and assume we are all the same when clearly we are not! Your remarks all point to McInnes if you ask me; Contrary to your remarks the majority on here are split between D McInnes and D Jones. For many, including me, he is the stand out candidate by a country mile. May cost a little in compensation but all things considered I think it will be an investment that will reap significant rewards for the club.

Backpage is not connected to the club in any way other than he has supported City in all four divisions and never walked out of a game early.

OK so does not work at the club but is close to CS, probably family or very close friend then. Anyway, lets leave it there.
SJC Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Backpage is not connected to the club in any way other than he has supported City in all four divisions and never walked out of a game early. Ooooooooooo a mystery! Well you don't stipulate which 'City' you support and although you state you've 'never walked out of a game early', which insinuates you're a loyal fan, you could have attended one game in your life, or even none, as a fan of whichever City you make reference. I've drawn up a shortlist of five and reckon you're Mark Robbins . . . .
BristolNorthEndRed Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 The amount of nagativity and ill-informed comment about the managerial candidates on this website is staggering. No different to any other forum. On any subject. What exactly do some of those posting comments know about Dave Jones, Mark Robins, Sean O'Driscoll, Derek McInnes, Billy Davis and what they might bring to our club. They probably don't know a lot, but, this is a fans forum, and at least they are showing an interest. For those who bleat that they 'want a big name with Championship experience who will put bums on seats' I will say two words to you: Steve Coppell. I liked Steve Coppell. I still do. Perhaps there was more to his departure than meets the eye. He certainly would put bums on seats, and knew his stuff. For those who say we need a young ambitious manager with a passion for the club, I will offer four words: Brian Tinnion, Keith Millen. Both poor at managing, not the fans choice. There is no perfect prescription for the best type of manager except that we don't want one who has seen his better days and is simply looking for another pay-cheque. But please, let's leave it up to the board to interview the candidates and take soundings within the game about them before they make the appointment. What else can we do? Moaning and pre-judging just creates a sour atmosphere for the new manager to step into. Takes all sorts, even if you don't agree with them. COYR

havanatopia Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 The name Backpage suggests a journalist, does it not... Exactly. I believe Backroom is Richard Latham; he was in here remember sniffing around before the interview with CS to pick up a thought or two from us fans.

A much better Sports Journalist in my opinion.

The Casual Connoisseur Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 Journo or local radio commentator/reporter. P.s the evening post is a rag and BBC Sport a complete joke.
