kmpowell Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Whilst I FULLY back the sentiment, I am a bit split on the outcome. Good condition "classic" shirts are worth a LOT of money and I believe contribute towards the backbone of our history. The last day of the season sees these shirts out in abundance and I have no doubt that they make the feel good nostalgic factor rise several fold! It would make me very sad to think these would be leaving our country (never to be seen again!) in return for a tenner off this season shirt! I personally love seeing these old shirts, and whenever I wear out my Hirerite shirt at a game I get comments smiles and points from complete strangers who hark back to the Bob Taylor days. At Wembley I even had somebody try to buy it from me in the street for £100! In the picture on the OS they have 3 shirts that I would class as 'keepers for nostalgia", the yellow and green Away Hirerite, Purple & Lime Thorn Security, and the Dry BlackThorn Home shirt. Anyway, it's something mediocre to mull over whilst we wait for our club to pull its finger from its backside and appoint a manager...
Donald Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Totally agree with what your saying, however personally I don't think you'll see anyone donate any of the classic kits, such as the hire-rite/blackthorn ones however I'm sure I've got a few TFG/Admiral shirts in the attic which were simply appalling!!! Question is, if I turn up with 8 of those old digusting shirts, can I get 2 new ones?
Bar BS3 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Oh dear! It's not hard is it! If you wear your old kit and still have use for it - then keep it. If you don't and it lives in the bottom of a drawer, then you have the OPTION of donating it to a good cause and getting a tenner off the new kit while you are at it.

It does read like that might be the case on the OS write up, but im sure it will be a limit of one discount per new shirt purchased. If not I would probably be able to kit out a 5-a-side squad with the new City shirt in exchange for all my old ones!
Guest freddie fox Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 What is the crack with this, as it doesn't actually say. You just take your old shirts into the shop and get a £10 discount? Is there a limit?
Guest Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I'm sure the ones shown in the image might be the ones that the club have around the corporate/board room areas and were just 'borrowed' for the shoot.
kmpowell Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Oh dear! It's not hard is it! That's not what my post is saying, but you wouldn't see that because you're obviously one of these...

CiderSomerset Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I have kept all of the old shirts that I have bought over the years and wouldnt part with them.. KMP - The Hirerite shirt you are referring to, is that the one that you wear with a plastic sheet covering it in case you spill anything on it???

In order to claim the discount shirts should be donated at BCFC Megastore, Ashton Gate. Only one old shirt will be accepted per £10 new replica shirt discount ie four shirts cannot be redeemed for a free replica shirt.
mcbcfc Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Kitaid is a great cause and we did the appeal in work a few years back, I got got rid of all my old shirts that I seemed to buy everytime I went on holiday but I can't get rid of my city shirts. They are up in the top of my wardrobe but every shirt reminds me of certain players, good games etc sentiment I'm afraid takes over.

That was my first shirt when I was 7 years old and would love to get one in an adult size!! Will always remind me of Super Bob, my first hero!
David Brent Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I was very close to getting the Purple and Lime shirt, had the order confirmed but then got an e-mail saying it had already been sold. To add insult to injury a mate ended up being the person who bought it Fuming! I used to own the Purple / Lime shirt. Was handed down a few years ago. I regret not taking care of it now. I don't think i'll be looking at back at the most recent shirts with quite the same nostalgia.

Had mine since I was a kid (12 y/o), and as people who have seen it will testify it's in mint condition. It's a bit big for me but I love it and will never part with it as it reminds me of my days of a kid stood at the front in the east end!. Getting hold of them is rare, i've never seen them on eBay and only ever seen a few crop up on CFS. When they do come up they aren't cheap, expect to pay north of £70 for a good un and circa £90 for a minter.
