Economou Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Deduct a mark for the lack of closing down for Posh's 2nd goal. I know we lost but came away feeling fairly positive, we had loads of chances but couldn't quite convert them and we kept going even at two down, could possibly have snatched a draw at the end. OK P'boro also had a few good chances but we had a makeshift defence with Spence at LB, thought he did OK, and Stewart recalled, thought he also did well, Boyd's goal apart, plus Skuse at RB who had a fine game. Some set pieces worked well too, the corners to Stewart at far post and Brett's deep lying volley. Glad for Marvin, worked really hard, deserved his goal and could maybe have had more, yet again, his flying header first half was amazing.

Pity the best chances fell to Marv.
bringbacktherobin Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Skuse at RB who had a fine game. Skuse is just like joe burnell, jack of all trades master of none. Another player i wouldnt care if they left in the summer.

Absolutely, he won everything in the air and we know he has no pace, but he gave his best and for all this talk of players not caring and just picking up their money, he seemed genuinely gutted at the final whistle. On today's evidence he'll definitely be in the next managers' plans.

Red-Robbo Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Harsh, I thought he had his best game for a while today. Agree! Skuse cleared virtually off the line once and was our last line of defence, making must-win tackles on two other occasions. There was a reasonable effort from all (apart from Maynard who still doesn't look anywhere near at his best) and at least our heads didn't drop when we went two goals down. Although we should never be losing games like this, you can see how we might win such fixtures in the future with a manager who inspires the team, plays them to their strengths, puts out a balanced side and ensures they get proper coaching in how to take set pieces and throw-ins. Not what they got in the dismal Millen/Wigley regime.

Ok, the effort may have been there, but the collective tempo wasn't. At times the performance was at walking pace. I was utterly disappointed with our urgency. The good thing is though, if our potential manager was watching today, he would have seen a performance that embodies our whole season.
Dollymarie Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Skuse had a belter today! Definitely my man of the match. Was good to see Cisse and Stewart back as well.

I thought the tempo was good for most of the game, but we possibly were a bit sluggish after half time which contributed to their opening goal.
BrizzleRed Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I reckon there were a fair few positives today and I just can't see how the doom and gloom merchants can only see relegation for us this season. Most if not all those players out there today are good enough to get us out of the shit and the most important thing is to change their mindset to a positive one. That could be the major difference between us being where we are now and safely in mid-table and hopefully the new man coming in with new ideas will be able put things right in that area. We aren't that far off a half decent championship side and certainly not nailed on for the drop.

And I bet you thought Keith Millen's team where playing some lovely football! I hope you are in the minority thinking that was 9/10! What do people honestly rate the passion? I give it 3/10 today, just because they were still there after 99 minutes!

Not at all, glad to see him gone, a real chore watching his team and think the team felt the same way playing under him. Also glad to see JCR dropped today, was OK coming off the bench.
Slave to the rhythm Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 I reckon there were a fair few positives today and I just can't see how the doom and gloom merchants can only see relegation for us this season. How about the fact that we cannot keep a clean sheet to save our lives and we need about 10 chances per every goal we score? Relegation form.
BerkeleyBAred Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Those who think that Marvin Elliott is of championship standard or that 9 / 10 for today's performance, as a team please note: the standard of this division has moved on by 3 seasons.

Relegation form. I'd be far more worried if we weren't making the chances. We've all seen teams with the relegation look about them over the years and I certainly didn't see one today.
hinsleburg Posted October 15, 2011 Posted October 15, 2011 Suprised Stewart hasn't been mentioned more, thought he was immense today and looked solid (although i did fear the worst after his spoon in the first minute)

I agree Skuse played very well. Spence was awful though at LB. Might try Ribs there hopefully as he has been playing there for the reserves and really well too.

From what i here from within the club, Ribs was looking for a loan out to a div 1 team and looking to move on from Bristol city in the Summer as he didn't like Millen's attitude towards him, Millen thought he was a glass man that wouldn't play through the pain barrier and every time Ribs took a hit in training he was always suggesting he was injured, and the manager thought he needed to toughen up. Now it will be interesting to see if Ribs changes his mind and looks to stay under a new manager. Seems like he has gone though a relatively long period for him injury free. I think Ribs has the talent to be very good, just needs to get his head right and realise sometimes you have to play through a little pain. Seems this cruciate injury effected him badly. Maybe a visit to a different type of doc could be in order to help any self doubt he has with his own injuries, then maybe we will reap the rewards.
Northampton Red Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Albert Adomah. What a game he had today. Great vision, pace, technique...MOM by a mile.

Some signs of a quicker tempo with slick passing and at last the ball being played more on the floor. I know we still lost but for the first time this season I left the gate in positive mind about the rest of the season. With a new manager at the helm who can sort out the lapses in concentration at the back and instill some confidence, I think we shall finish comfortably mid table. IMO of course.

I think most would agree that yesterday's performance was good, and we deserved at least a point from the game. Adomah,Cisse, Skuse, Kilkenny, Pitman, Stewart, all had decent games. The only disappointment for me was Maynard; but then with poor service what can we expect ? However, the worrying thing is that we are still losing to poor teams. Reading and Peterbrough are both sides we should have beaten, and both are likely to be towards the bottom of the table come the end of the season.

TRL Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 Put him in goal, turn him to face the net, no ball would ever get past his ass, clean sheets every week.

Interesting point of view but somewhat flawed. After being frozen out despite being fit and playing 9/10 consecutive matches probably had good reason not to be too happy with the treatment from Milly. It was actually Millen who told Ribs he would not be considered as available for selection until he had gone out on loan. Lets hope that sort of treatment is in the past
