Guest fabio Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 St JOHNSTONE manager Derek McInnes is set to be named as the new Bristol City boss. It is understood McInnes has beaten former Barnsley manager Mark Robins in the race to succeed Keith Millen in the post. Bristol City players show their dismay after referee Iain Williamson awards Crystal Palace a penalty McInnes' contract is expected to be finalised with City today and a formal announcement is set to be made tomorrow. Compensation has already been agreed with St Johnstone and believed to be in the region of £100,000. Meanwhile, furious City caretaker manager Steve Wigley launched a scathing attack on referee Iain Williamson after seeing his side lose 1-0 in cruel fashion at Crystal Palace last night The Berkshire-based official enraged Wigley and his players when awarding Palace an 80th-minute penalty, harshly ruling that Lewin Nyatanga had tripped Jonathan Williams inside the 18-yard box. Glenn Murray scored the only goal of a drab contest from the spot, but television replays later showed the referee had got it wrong. Having seen a point elude his rock-bottom team, Wigley said: "The referee had a poor game all night and his decision has cost us. It was an atrocious decision. "Lewin has pulled his foot away and the lads has gone down easily and conned the referee. "I was brought up at Nottingham Forest not to criticise referees, but I would be letting my players down if I didn't say something. "They should not get things like that wrong and his performance was not acceptable. "Young players see people diving all the time these days and the lad has just gone to ground. "But the referee should be good enough to see that. "He may phone me and apologise to me tomorrow, but that is no good to me or my players. They are totally down and frustrated after outing in a really hard shift. They deserved better." Wigley, whose future remains uncertain, confirmed: "I've been informed of what the club is doing and the new manager will be in place on Thursday morning. "I don't know what the future holds for me and the ball is not in my court. I just have to wait and see what the new manager decides to do."
