Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 now that it is official i would just like to say, Awrabest Del, hope you make it big time. To all City fans, you really do have a star. enjoy.
RedM Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 now that it is official i would just like to say, Awrabest Del, hope you make it big time. To all City fans, you really do have a star. enjoy. I hope you are right but still nothing concrete our end yet. You must forgive us for being a bit cautious untill we have official SMS's and announcements on the official site we won't believe. I don't expect you know but fairly recently we signed a player (Metab) from Egypt I think it was, all signed and photographed holding his BCFC shirt up on the official site. He was our player after lengthly negotiations. Anyway against our wishes he went back to his old club and played one last 'farewell' game, and the deal was then pulled. So if we don't believe untill all official, thats one of the resons why!
Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 aye fair enough. but you have him, he is a man of his word , not an egyptian
Puckle_red Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Emad Meteb was his name, also you never know he might do a Coppell... Fingers crossed we find out today.
RedM Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 aye fair enough. but you have him, he is a man of his word , not an egyptian I got to say, you St. Johnstone fans are in a class of your own. If we do get him, and he turns out to be as good as his fans, then I hope we will be as gracious when some Prem club comes sniffing for him in a few years time.
Guest CTID GAZZA Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 dont say that i really am worried every time we appoint a manager who hasnt been at the club for like 10 years because of copout
Dolman Block B Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Fairly offical if you read this; http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/football/spl/2011/10/19/st-johnstone-boss-derek-mcinnes-wins-race-for-bristol-city-job-86908-23498984/
bearded_red Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I don't think I've ever seen a group of fans act in such a dignified and classy manner. St Johnstone you should really be proud of yourselves.
Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I got to say, you St. Johnstone fans are in a class of your own. If we do get him, and he turns out to be as good as his fans, then I hope we will be as gracious when some Prem club comes sniffing for him in a few years time. we are no different from any other set of real football fans, we love our club as much as anyone, there may not be as many of us but we LOVE OUR CLUB THE SAME. Also we are realists, Del was always going onto bigger things. I am a great believer in that REAL fans understand football better than anyone, the emotions, the love, the hate and can speak football to any other fan, even REAL Dundee or e***and fans. i might hate their club or country (in football rivarly) but i am a football fan and i have got drunk with both for the love of fitba'
Guest Wendy Who? Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 All the best to Del and Doc. I have absolutely no doubts that they will bring a level of succes to BCFC and have them motoring up the table soon enough and safe from relegation. From what I've heard on here, your players seem to have zero confidence right now but perhaps a bit of talent so what I will say is that you would be hard pushed to find a better man-manager in Scotland. Tactically he can be a bit naive on occasions but he is young, hungry and will improve even more. Don't really know why but I'm actually really looking forward to him getting things underway at Ashton Gate and putting a rocket up the players and getting some points on the board, starting with Birmingham this weekend! As said previously, it is highly likely that there will be a clause bolted in to the deal for us to have pre-season friendly and most likely to be at fortress McDiarmid. Del and Doc have left us with a good squad, healthy league position and a bumper pay cheque so happy days all round!! PS - odds are now officially available for who will get the SJFC job. Mark Robins anyone?

If we do get him, and he turns out to be as good as his fans, then I hope we will be as gracious when some Prem club comes sniffing for him in a few years time. Amen to that. The saintees have turned out to be a superb bunch of fans and I really hope this isn't the last we hear from them. They've added a massive amount to this board over the last few days and been like a breath of fresh air and in my view have encapsulated all that is good about football. As for our fans being as charitable when a bigger club comes sniffing around ....... you can hope, but I very much doubt it!
Red Exile Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 To weejon and Wendy Who? I can only wish the very best of luck to St Johnstone for the rest of the season. Classy supporters both. Let's hope that pre-season match comes off.

Mark Robins anyone? Now that's a hell of a long way to travel, but would definitely be tempted to come up for that and share a few jars with some top fans. The fact that I'm also partial to the good old malt, or any type of Scotch for that matter, there's an extra inducement if ever it was needed!!!
Guest henryhallsdanceband Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Oh well - if you are going to get Del I've suggested we Saintees buy him the great wee book 'Krek Waiters Peak Bristle' - that give him a chance of understanding all you good folks in the Bristle arial. Very disappointed that we're probably losing him though.
Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 chances are i will be down for the Burnley or Forest match as we do not play on the saturday that weekend. i will be calling Del for some comps. latest on the announcement. possibly tonight but may be tomorrow. they are, as we speak, haggling the contract out now.
madmax Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I always followed Ross County not sure why but from now on will always follow St. Johnstone FC. If I'm in Scotland (possibly next year) I might catch a game! MM
Guest henryhallsdanceband Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Jump on train at Temple Mead - direct to Glasgow Central - brisk 10min walk to Queen Street (via the Horseshoe in Drury Street for a bevvy or two in the best pub in Glasgow - allow at least 1hr). Then direct from Queen Street to Perth - nae bather at a'.
Sargent Pepper Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I remember away at PNE a few years ago on 1st day of the season. There were Motherwell fans there who had travelled to see Clarkson play! Top fans
Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I looked at the closer matches, middlesbrough & Burnley but they are not till next year. i can guarantee there will be Saints fans at either Burnley or Forest home games.
Puckle_red Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I'm pretty sure they were all family to Clarky, I do remember about 15 of them being just infront of me, we had a decent following up there that day 1500 or so and I missed the first 10 mins because of traffic on the Motorway. I'm looking forward to a new era under McInnes.

Guest weejohn Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 cheers contract talks happening in Bristol i assume? i don't know where, but it is just the fine details being sorted. i would imagine there are lots of things to sort out. the lots of wee add ons that come into it nowadays.

If we do get him, and he turns out to be as good as his fans, then I hope we will be as gracious when some Prem club comes sniffing for him in a few years time. I'll second that. The St J fans who have posted on here have been helpful , respectful, friendly (seeing as we're nicking their top man) and good humoured - putting up with the odd jibe about Scottish football with good grace. I've never been to Perth but I will deffo look out for St Johnstone scores from now on and hope they continue to prosper.
Guest The Ghost of Jim Morton Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Through tear stained eyes ( okay i am milking it a wee bit) I hope you funny talkers treat the guys well, and like Wee John, I am definitely gonna take in a match. I am sure John will get a bus organised for a wee weekend away. Been great craic on here and I am certain that although I will not be on this board quite as much as I have been the last week or so, I will pop in from time to time for a chinwag.. All the very best to Del and the Doc. Go show the Cider swallowers what can be achieved by a great managerial team..
Guest Saintly Child Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Seemingly he's signed about an hour ago, sadden to lose this guy and I hope he blows the Champioship apart as he deserves his chance. All the best to BC for the future and we hope to see you in the EPL very soon. Hope Geoff Brown has a big bonus arrangement in place for your promotion.
Guest newyear'sday97 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Good luck for the rest of the season. I will definitely be looking out for your results from now on. If there is a friendly in Perth, I will gladly share a drink with you guys.

Guest newyear'sday97 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Who are the Super J's best players?? It's probably quite likely one or two will follow McInnes?? Now yer just taking the mick
Guest henryhallsdanceband Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Who are the Super J's best players?? It's probably quite likely one or two will follow McInnes?? Don't tell him Sandaza (apologies to Capn Mainwaring)
Guest henryhallsdanceband Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Oh yes - good luck Del and thanks - see you back at McDiarmid when you get BCFC into Europe and we get drawn together :-)

Guest The Ghost of Jim Morton Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Well, it's a common approach from managers to bring players they know and trust with them when they change clubs, it's happened throughout the history of the game with Brian Clough one of the many who have done this. I honestly couldn't name a single St Johnstone player other than Jody Morris so it was merely a question of who do you St's fans think is good enough to play in the English leagues? It might well be that McInnes doesn't bring anyone from you with him, but he will definitely need to add something to this squad!! You should go for Clevland Taylor. We had him but could not hold onto him

In all seriousness players Del may be interested in taking with him I would say: Murray Davidson - box-to-box midfielder, likes a tackle, Scotland squad man although still to win a cap. That will change as soon as he leaves Saints as he would no longer be seen as baing with a "wee" club. Fran Sandaza - striker. Our top scorer this season and simply class. Cillian Sheridan - striker. Not always loved by the fans because of his lethargic style. I've always rated the guy though and more importantly so does Del. On loan to us from CSKA Sofia till January. Liam Craig - midfielder. Very versatile, scores goals. Del's first signing for us and always been a regular pick for him. Steven Anderson - defender. Developed very well under Del. Very consistent, no-nonsense and versatile. 5 million and you can have all 5

Guest PERTH SAINTS FAN Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Well now it's a done deal the first thing i have to say is i got it wrong!!I thought you guys would go for Robins, still pleased to be proved wrong, as you guys now have a very talented young manager. It is with a bit of sadness tonight but I wish you well and hope you Bristol City treat Del and Doc well, and like Wee John,Ghostie and others I am definitely gonna take in a match when i can, infact i run a Supporters team so maybe we can set up a Double header!! . I will not be on this board too much i would imagine, I will pop in from time to time and will be looking out for BCFC results with interest and if any of your supporters teams fancies the above challenge , just ask!!All the best guys, im sure Del and Tony will steer yous away from the bottom end of the League for now!!! LARKY!!!

SDBS36 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 To all Saints fans it's been so enjoyable with you on our forum please dont forget to come back to visit & you are TOP FANS hope we get that freindly game
Guest dave mc Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 All the very best Del and Doc,i'm sure they'll be a huge success, hope to make it down, but will follow BC from afar anyway
hinsleburg Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 We need some of you St Johnstone fans to hang around, have been a breath of fresh air round here recently.
Guest poang Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Another Saintee here. Cant say enough how much I appreciate what Del and Doc have done for Saints, its just a pity the population of Perth is polluted with Old Firm scumbags and the rest are so apathetic, the guys didnt get nearly the amount of plaudits and crowd numbers they deserve. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how they get on, I've no affiliation to any English clubs so this is a good a reason as any to follow someone down south. I can honestly see me making an effort to go to one of your games, heres hoping its whilst you're at the other end of the table. Thank you Del, you gave us some great moments. I'll never forget that first Scottish cup semi (so, so close), beating Celtic at Parkhead for the first time in 13 years, beating Rangers 4-1 in the league, the unbeaten run in the First Division which included some of the best goals and football I have seen at ANY level. Good luck guys, I've attached a clip I uploaded of a Saints goal to show you Dels reaction. You folks want passion, here you go....

If he trusts Craig like you say then a goalscoring midfielder would be ideal for us as well. Without wishing to devastate your team it's likely Del's going to be well aware he needs a few new players by January and these would appear to be relatively risk free signings for him - providing he thinks they're up to Championship football of course. We could do with a few fiery Scots - our best team in the last 40 years had a mixture of Bristolians and Scots ( Gerry Gow, Gerry Sweeney, Donnie Gillies, Micky Brolly () and later Peter Cormack) and they gelled superbly. A new team under McInnes built on similar foundations would go down very well in these parts.

Guest Saintly Child Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 I woke up this morning and felt like my dog had died. I hope Del & Doc do the job for you guys, we are gutted to lose them but excited to see who is next. All the best for this season, give Double D's time and they will get you to the EPL.
