Robbored Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 It looks nailed on that McInnes will be the new City manager and although most of us knew nothing about him before his name was linked with City I'm delighted for at least one thing. The fact that he has no history with our club. When Millen was appointed lots of fans immediately said that it was the wrong choice, largely because of his long involvement with City and looking back that may have been a part of why it didn't work out. The previous manager appointed from within was Tinnion and we all know what happened under him. City have generally done better with an external appointment. Fresh eyes, new idea's, no familiarity with the players, new back room set-up and a different style of managing. All positives. It just a question of how long it takes to get everything working the right way. City are already bottom and can't afford to get cut adrift so the pressure is immediately on even though he's starting with a clean slate.
Donald Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Indeed. Fresh start for many now, including players. With a new coaching/management staff, it's a clean slate all around. Hopefully fans will do the same Both towards players AND also thier fellow fans. Think many need to draw a line under the past and look forward.

Robbored Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Oh, go on, I'll take the bait..... You mean like GJ? Indeed, and if McInnes does as well in his first two season's as Johnson did then we'll all be delighted. Problem for McInnes is that with City rock bottom he can't afford 10 consecutive defeats to get the house in order.

This whole club needs to change from top to bottom, and a new manager with his own assistant and maybe his own coaches is a great start. I pray he keeps us up then we can ship out certain bodies next summer and really start to build something positive
ralphindevon Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I agree with the fresh pair of eyes with no City ties will be important. However, I will still be sticking by McInnes if we go down and have will have full faith in him to take us back up. Lets hope it doesn't come to that but we are well and truly in the Sh** at the moment and will be hard to get out of it.

Fair point Although a) it's not actually possible to have a down turn in form right now and b) I'd hope (deludedly) that most fans would be sensible enough to give him time to sort out the rubbish he's inherited....
RedM Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I think this appointment is a real turning point in our history, make or break. We have to get the right people and think long term this time. Even if we hit a few bumpy patches on the way, as long as there is a plan with a likelyhood of progress we have to make it work. We really can't afford emotionally or financially to be going through all this upheaval for a few years again. Lets draw a line and move forward as one.

We can afford 10 consecutive defeats (though I'm sure GJ only had 9) if enough points are garnered afterwards to ensure a decent finish, as GJ managed. I don't think it'll be necessary, though, as it sounds like the current squad are more in need of some organisation and confidence than the a***-kicking that GJ had* to administer. *I'm not getting into that debate either. It worked, at least for a bit.
ralphindevon Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 As you rightly said RR, a few weeks ago not many of us knew anything about him. The one thing that has come over in the last 2 weeks is those that did know something about him have nothing but praise for him, without exception from what I've read. I'm very happy.....or will be when it's official
cheshire_red Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 He's only a SPL manager though. Isn't that about Blue Square Premier League / Conference standard? Know of any clubs who play in blue squares?
hooered Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 I agree with the OP but it wont be long before he has to make some very important decisions within the make up of the staff and players these will be popular with some fans but unpopular with others. We must all stand by what he has decided and keep solidly behind him, this must be a season long commitment by us all if we are to achieve our status as a championship side by the end of the season, I really hope that the board have got this right.
Robbored Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 He's only a SPL manager though. He is but he's taken a very small club with a small budget to a position in the SPL that the Saints fans would only have dreamed of 4 years ago. The guy is obviously a talented motivator and man manager. He must be astute tactically as well. I expect his substitutions will be spot on.........
